Glad to see this book still holds up. I bought a copy of it a decade ago, and it was my first introduction to range, equity, commitment thresholds, and SPR. For someone brand new to this way of thinking, I still think it's a great introduction.
But I really need to figure out how balancing applies to anonymous tables and zone. Are there other reasons to bet hands similarly if opponents never know it’s you ? Why should I balance in zone , where there is limited info ? No one knows it’s me. Can I bet my tiers differently ? Can assume I’m playing when there are 30+ at the table.
hi, thank you for the book recommendation (I ordered one copy on paper). Here is my question: why are out there ranges for very specific situations? I saw one that said "When HJ check-raise to 2.4 BB"... like, what? will the range change if the HJ check-raise to 2.5 BB? how are poker players memorize their ranges if this can be so specific that the only things missing is the time of day and the position of the planets? That's something I don't understand, how does one land to the conclusion that some hands should be play (or not) in so specific situations?
They don't. It is a framework that you can adapt and have reference to. It is not a strict framework, neither will a small difference change much. For example, if you play QJs in HJ but do not play QJs in CO, it isnt going to affect your overall game by much. It is very player dependent i.e. the line up and how you perceive your villain's calling range is
Hi jim james, its been long time since u upload new video. How's your short stack strategy working recently? Did u build a big enough bankroll for high stake game? I am still playing low stake online, mixing in mid stake live game (but far far away from nosebleed level)
Hi Ken! It's working really well. I am in the process of finishing up my new Elite course. I will be announcing it soon. I have been focused on teaching and courses for the past couple of years, but have been working my way up through the stakes while testing strategies. I should be uploading some playing videos so you'll see the stakes I'm playing. My content is mostly about small and mid stakes, but I am not ruling out some higher stakes play.
One pair hands are often T2. Sometimes, on some boards and against some opponents it could be T1... but usually, especially when SPRs are higher, it is T2.
Unsure if you the example board at the bottom as I almost did. Q, J, 9 rainbow. Tier one were nutted hands, Tier 2 were overpairs, top pair with gutshots, etc.

Agree with that book recommendation. It taught me how to stop stacking off with TPTK when playing deep.
Nice to see you back. I am still short stacking with your charts but mainly on zoom tables so its 50bb for me.
Awesome, good to hear from you!

Having a strong base strategy is the key to anonymous and zone. Inherently balanced, in other words

What's your reasoning for AA in tier 2?

It’s a pair
often sees 2bet, call > flop
Best position for pocket pairs are hj because range has inflated (villain perspective)
Not the nuts
