- This was the second unsuccessful attempt to remake "Fawlty Towers". The first was called "Amanda's" and starred Bea Arthur. "Fawlty Towers" was a show of pure genius. "Payne" is barely remembered.

LOL Flowery Twats was my favourite opening...
My favorite was when he find out the culprit is the paper-boy....
"You ain't hanging 'round the schools are ya?" UYD for life.
What made FT hilarious was John Cleese and an American actor can NOT pull that off
The only English sitcom to really transfer well was Till Death Do Us Part which was remade as Archie Bunker's Place.
Just type "Fawlty Towers" or "Payne" into the youtube search bar or try amazon, ebay, ioffer etc...
sick clarinet.
-Generic US Sitcom theme tune-
anybody know where i can find these?
Shame I never saw it.
You're not missing out on anything with the rip-off with "Payne" which it was 2 watch! lol ;)
You also missed the best part of the American intro, when the sign falls over at the end.
Yes... you're right. The best part... the funniest part of the sit-com...
Just kidding, look... it had it's moments. But the TOWERS was a landmark programme in all-entertainment history. PAYNE was just a sit-com. Funny... but just a sit-com. So there.
WTF was that? Where's the rest!
@AmericansStupid whoa sonny, take a valium.
anyway the american office didn't fail. it's different and not nearly as significant as the uk original, but it is quite good and successful in its own manner.
The Office worked pretty well.
I always felt that Newhart was a closer kin to Fawlty Towers than any of the horrid remakes.
Payne was pretty funny. John Cleese liked it.
What a silly and unthinking thing to do, totally badmouth a whole country like that. It's not that American tv can't be funny, there are a great many hilarious sitcoms produced in America. The problems arise when they try to translocate a show from Britain into American. In most cases it simply does not work. The audiences have different tastes, different ideas of what is funny. British sitcoms, more so than the serious shows, just don't translate into the American format of doing things. No ma
Payne was a total crap compare original.
