I control myself by choosing a max number of fragrances I think I could use up and enjoy. For me, that number is 15. If I want to buy another fragrance, I have to use up one of this 15, and only then I can buy new fragrance. This is how I control myself. And I feel really happy when I use up the whole bottle, because that purchase was worth it. I don’t like having fragrance I feel like I won’t use up. This is how I buy only things I love, not just like. Hope you get better soon ❤🙏🏼
Thank you for opening this subject, it's very interesting and rarely spoken of in the beauty community. I've finished my no buy year recently and had to go all in for the year - unsubscribing from every beauty, perfume channels, unfollowing perfume groups on FB, making a list of rules (for example allowing myself to buy a new mascara if the old one is finished and there's no alternatives, etc). 1-2 months into it i've stopped browsing shopping sites, started reading more books before bed, so it was almost a shopping detox and i feel that it's a good thing to do once in a while whether one has a full on shopping addiction or just a tame one. I'm also amazed at your perfume sample collection and how much work it takes to keep the channel going! I hope it grows and is discovered and appreciated by more perfume lovers❤
What helped me to pause was seeing how difficult it is to resell them, even at half price or less. I'm stuck with things that take up space. Lots of wasted money. And also, I had so many unopened items for months that I didn't realize there were a few fakes. Expensive error as I had lost interest and planned to resell them. But now I can't. The plus side of being on a low buy and waiting much longer to buy is that I often find out the ones I wanted are not full bottle worthy. And decants are enough. This next year, I hope to cut the fragrances by more than half. And redo the journey with a better core collection that I love and use well.
Thank you so much for talking openly about this, Noura! I have been spending a lot of money on fragrances during the past couple of years. And of course I've been treating myself for serious problems and trouble I have in my life. Fragrances or other nice things give me comfort. I also love having beautiful things around me. It's very important to reflect on this from time to time. And since I've found Van Cleef Orchidée Vanille and a couple of other fragrances that I absolutely love, I don't have the urge to test every new fragrance anymore. I am starting to cherish what I have. Much, much love from Germany ❤️
Your message speaks a lot to me. buying fragrances has been bringing me comfort for about 3 years. At my peak of depression and anxiety, I didn't want to shower and buying a perfume would make this more of a motivating experience, I guess, that made me happier. My son fell severely ill in 2022 and I have been through a rollercoaster of emotions and my body has responded with joint inflammation, weight gain. I could acknowledge this happening but could not break it. It is a long story but at this point, I feel I am now ready to break my bad habits. (With my impulsive binging and purchases) Bless your heart, Noura, it takes courage to share this. ❤ I wish you well.
Thank you for being vulnerable enough to share your journey. The timing of the video is perfect as I've been working through a fragrance addiction myself. In particular, I've been buying Middle Eastern perfumes like crazy, using the lower price point as justification. I too have said buying samples is a waste of money as buying the full bottle is not much more expensive, but what I've been stuck with is a bunch of blind buy fails or fragrances that are "nice" or "ok", but ones I never would've bought if I was able to sample in a store first. And all these "budget friendly" perfumes sure add up quickly. I've been forcing myself to buy samples, and it's made a huge difference. Even though the savings aren't that much, I'm not stuck with a full bottle of perfume I don't enjoy, feeling guilty about another wasteful purchase. They've helped curb the impulse buys over time too. I've also been more mindful about the influencers I watch and patterns I see. I've noticed certain influencers all hyping the same thing and when certain influencers ONLY hype products and insist you NEED everything they are pushing, it's raised red flags... It's perfume. No one NEEDS perfume. I have a handful of influencers I trust now. And I've decluttered 75% of my perfumes only keeping the perfumes that I genuinely enjoy wearing. Over time, I've been honing in on my perfume preferences, learning from blind buy mistakes, and cultivating a small collection of perfumes for ever season/occasion that make me feel beautiful when I wear them regardless of what's on trend or being hyped at the moment.
Dear Noura. I think you are extremely brave. Thank you for sharing your story. 🩷 Maybe a little off topic, but I think people are in too much of a hurry these days. We don't have time (or better: We don't find the time) to stop and just breathe, realize that we are alive and be grateful for it. I wish you all the best. I hope the medical report wasn't too terrifying.😬❤️🩹
Thank you so much for your kind words! It's true that taking a moment to breathe and appreciate life is so important. Wishing you all the best as well!
Hi Noura. Your samples storage is the most organized I’ve ever seen!😮 I’m amazed at how amazing you are! I stopped buying makeup April ‘23. I haven’t bought anything. Of course, as you can imagine, I had a lot. I began to buy fragrances. All were blind buys. I learned what I liked, and what I didn’t. So it served a purpose. I started decluttering and selling my perfume and eyeshadow palettes. I don’t sell cream or liquid products. So far I’ve decluttered 65 fragrances. I’ve sold most of them. I’ve listed 468 item. (I had a lot of eyeshadow palettes) I only have 85 left. I was totally honest with myself about what I would actually use. The money goes in a separate savings account. I’ve only bought 3 fragrances since June. A total of 12 since January. One was something I’ve wanted for a long time. Armani Sí Fiore. I’m happy to have it. It’s beautiful. Now, I can choose anything from my fragrances and love it. I finally have my shopping under control. I stopped watching all but a few fragrance channels. Those I watch are people I really like….as people. I can enjoy them because I’m immune any pressure to buy. This was an important subject. One that needs addressing. Thank you for addressing it. 💛💛💛💛 I hope you feel better soon.
I needed to see this today. It seems I get bad with shopping around October every year. This year I went from one fragrance to more than I count and not really any loves. Dealing with the empty nest syndrome and a huge move equaled loneliness. Not an excuse. After seeing this video I know time to get my head straight again. Thank you ❤
Thank you for sharing your story on shopping / fragrance addiction. You are right, the thing we are addicted to is not the root problem, its our solution to the problem, or so it seems, albeit maladaptive. I also agree you have to be extremely honest with yourself Years ago it was beauty products in general with me. I went on a low buy. For about 6 years I have kept a notebook and written down eveything I buy in beauty, clothing, perfume, non essential home stuff like candles. I keep a track of all those costs. I can't lie to myself if I have written it down! This year I managed to cover all my perfume costs with ebay sales (perfume sales and general stuff I decluttered from my home). I even had money left over and I have set up a seperate savings account to put money from things I sell in 2025, to use for considered perfume purchases. It was also nice to see you sample Assam of India. A couple of years back I wanted to buy this one purely for the bottle with the elephant artwork in the back. Thankfully the voice of reason stopped me as I already own citrus tea fragrances 🐘
Thank you so much for sharing your story. I feel like this is something that should be talked about more often. I know I am currently working on my shopping, addiction. Only thing I am thankful for, is that I have never gone into debt for it, but it does cause other issues in my life. I hope you get better, and I hope you have an amazing holiday season this year
Thank you for sharing your thoughts! It's important to have open conversations about these topics. Wishing you strength on your journey, and I hope you have a wonderful holiday season too!
Great advice to go on a lo buy. I’m sorry you had a migraine e coming and it sounded like you were a bit in shock over what the doctor told you. Remember, you are strong and very resourceful. And a lot of us on here care deeply about you, Noura. You aren’t just a channel to us.
Great video! The timing on this video is perfect! I'm in the middle of a large declutter with a lot of the points you mentioned in mind. I want a more curated collection, full of perfumes that love, that speak to me and that are versatile. As a content creator, I have worried about not having enough perfumes to share or not having the newest releases. Ironically though, MY fave creators are not the ones with the biggest, newest collections. They're the ones with the personal, curated collections who regularly repeat perfumes in their videos. I still love to see it! I don't think I'm alone in this either.
It was incredibly generous and courageous of you to share what you did in this video. You are a genuinely beautiful person in so many ways. Thank you for all your hard work and for sharing your thoughts and experiences with us … I wish you the best in life always 🙏👏🙌🏻❤️
I really enjoyed this video Noura!! I am trying to keep my spending under control too. I’m so sorry about your health, I am prone to migraines too. Praying for you and the new year ahead. 🙏🏼
Thank you so much for your honesty! ❤ A lot of what you said was very relatable. Your sample/travel size collection is so impressive, all that you said, everything in this video shows your passion for your channel but also your love for perfumes and a deeply analytic or should I say scientific method and an admirable work ethic. I so so hope the results from your doctor weren't too worrying or at least if so, then they revealed something that can be treated. ❤
Thank you for your thoughtful comment! I’m glad you found the video relatable. My love for perfumes drives me to share my passion, and I appreciate your kind words about my collection!
Excellent video. What a fantastic topic. Addictions whether shopping, gambling etc can greatly impact people’s lives in a negative way. Thanks for being so open and encouraging to others that may be dealing with similar issues. Great job.
Thank you,we need this. I have only 15 parfumes, and I find out that I love only few of them,Burberry her,Burberry her elixir,Burberry goddess, prada paradoxe and Burberry intense. I'm stop buying parfumes. I will enyoj of these that I have. Now I have my top favorites and I will always buy them when I finish them. We don't need 100 and more parfumes, few of them is enough. Thank you again for this video❤💋🇭🇷
Bless your heart, it sounds like your body was craving a huge dose of healing. I hope you feel better soon! You sound like an amazing mom🧍♂️ I’m so sorry you are going through these health issues in addition to to the cold. A year is a long time, could it be an autoimmune issue?
I can relate❤ I started in 2018 watching youtube. I was looking for THAT fragrance and fall into this crazy obsession.. Today I only buy “cheap”, secondhand perfumes on the grey market. It's interesting how our fragrance journeys evolve! Finding that perfect scent often leads us down a winding path. Keeping a collection manageable is a smart approach!
I try to buy secondhand perfumes too! And clothes as well, as much as I can. Still I find it difficult to control myself, even though it's much better now. Sometimes I end up swapping fragrances just to get rid of some bottles I don't use, because I don't wanna waste them, but I end up with some other bottles that I don't always use or like. So yeah, maybe not the smartest strategy 😅
Great topic❤I’ll try next year to buy more less fragrances💪🏼and enjoy more my collection 😊😊😊some of my fragrances I sold,it’s soo satisfying 😊😊more like to buy new one😊😊😊
Thank you for your vlog Noura! I understand the new stuff addition - guilty too (but like you, under control 😁). There is an Australian plus size fashion rand called City Chic, they are fantastic! Especially for younger people. Their range is massive, great quality and really good prices. I don't know if they ship to Italy, but worth a look x
I really appreciate your kind words and the fashion recommendation! City Chic sounds amazing, and I’ll look into it for sure. Your support means a lot!
Wonderful content! Hope you get some answers soon about your health-sending good vibes. Thank you so much for your thoughtful comment! Your support means a lot to me, and I'm glad to hear we have similar tastes in fragrances. Enjoy your new scents!
Greetings! It sounds as though you might be low in iron. My friend is & had the same symptoms. I hope that you get an answer soon. Lastly, do you put the perfumes that you purchase for the channel as a tax write off? You should be able to 😉 Be well & Merry Christmas 🎄,
Sorry you have battling low energy & illness. I sure hope you had your serum vitamin D3 levels checked & are supplementing appropriately which is upwards of 5,000iu/ Vit D3 daily taken with healthy fats & in conjunction with Vit K2 (mk7) 125 mcg (micrograms not milligrams) all year round. Most of us are severely under proper blood levels which should be pushing 100 (in the states where they say you’re good at 30+ NOT TRUE🙄)
I’m impressed with you so openly sharing this with us, a topic which we’ve all by varying degree got in common - but no one within the community (that I’m aware of) has really so roundly or squarely faced/addressed.
