I really like this gameplay concept! It really fills a desire of nostalgia for old giant robot cartoons. I know it is kind of interpreted by many as Raw right now, but I think it has a lot of potential. I think dying from one fall might be too much, I know the focus is on a "practical" giant robot design (and the comedy that is that), but it kind of breaks the fantasy of a Giant Robot because Robots like Gundam, Gigantor, Getter Robo and even Power Rangers, the other robots fall over all the time, then like an underdog, they get back up. So I think looking at the model of games like Punch Out and Wrestling titles could be a good idea. After a Robot gets knocked to the floor, give a sensation of "overheating" and have a mechanic where the player can fight to get up, or finally explode if the overheating fills up/time has passed (maybe this too can be set based on the Robot's build). Then, in interest of keeping speed, and retaining a sense of power, allow for finishing strikes to when the robot is on the floor to destroy them without being able to get up. This allows for playing with AI difficulty for computer opponents as on lower difficulties, they do this less, allowing you more of a chance to get up before overheating, while it also can make you look cool and still finish a robot quickly if you are the one delivering the blow. In a case of multiplayer or online multiplayer (and single player too), it also would add an element of proximity falling, where players can strategize on where and how they should fall (And then even building defensive robots that are made to get up faster or guard certain areas from attacks). Then the last feature I think would be great for this kind of game is the ability to do special attacks. Adding in special weapons is a fun main component of giant robot genre and robot construction genre, and being able to press a button or switch on the touch screen would also be fun, even as a small switch on the side. Other games have similar things, but being a game to focus on the creative aspect, having a wide variety of attacks that do everything from add a weapon to an arm like a mace, axe, or sword, to firing missiles, rockets, and beams, to more magical special attacks that require you to make special poses first by moving your torso and arms into positions all would be very cool inclusions. I heard rumors of this going into a Star Fox game, but I think it has enough capability to hold up on it's own. I could see a mad doctor as a mascot for this series, where you are the doctor's assistant as they try to build the best robot. I think in Miiverse, being able to download other's posted robots and fight them with computer AI controlling those robots (and allowing people to comment back on how it performed in a miiverse post) can be just as fun as having online matches and tournaments (as well). I think it could be a very fun, very unique game that no one else can offer. I can't wait to see more from this!
This looks so much fun, I really hope they can flesh it out to a full title though I would be happy to play it like this. This would be a great party game.
Hope this isn't held hostage by Starfox, looks way better then Starfox. Hope it is collected though with Project Guard maybe. Rather this be apart of its own IP then some Starfox....
Just I thought, imagine this game with a virtual reality headset! The screen on the game pad is what you would see through headset? I think it would work!
Looks like you just make robots that walk into each other and occasionally extend their arms. Obviously not the final product, but I don't think it will deviate much from this. Disappointing, considering how cool the game would be if the actual gameplay was interesting. Just my opinion though. (But I'll probably get bitched at by people who can't accept other people's opinions.)
Okay but...Project Guard became Star Fox Guard in the end, and Nintendo doesn't usually waste engines or projects....where did this engine go? Be funny if the new Zelda has giant golem stuff kek
WHY the wonky robots just have giant robots fighting each other or something i am all for new ips like code name steam aaah love that game but this looks to silly and might only be oke for a distraction (oke the game might brilliant maybe i just dont now it yet )
And it's been revived! It's now part of Nintendo Labo!

This game looks so awesome! I cannot wait to try it. IMO this was the most underrated game at E3.
Miyamoto's still got it.
Haha, Miyamoto is a God. Can we all agree on that?

pigster01 Nintendo labo
I'd like to see a very similiar game using the wii balance board to move, and wii remote and nunchuck to punch and move arms.
Its pretty sad that this game is now scrapped. It had so much potential and it was wasted on Star Fox Guard. I hope the same doesn't happen to ARMS.
I hope this is what we're getting on labo
I'm so hyped!
Hope this isn't held hostage by Starfox, looks way better then Starfox.
Hope it is collected though with Project Guard maybe.
Rather this be apart of its own IP then some Starfox....
This game will be great if it has an online mode (1-4 players)
Just I thought, imagine this game with a virtual reality headset! The screen on the game pad is what you would see through headset? I think it would work!
