  • In this weeks episode of the Wide Awake Podcast I spoke to former arms dealer, David Packouz. David was an arms dealer during the War in Afghanistan. As a partner of AEY Inc, a prominent weapons contractor for the U.S. Department of Defense, he and his friend Efraim Diveroli landed a $300 million government contract in 2007 to provide ammunition and weapons to the Afghan Army. At this time David was just 24 years old and his friend Efraim was 20. Their story has since been adapted into the popular movie War Dogs, featuring renowned actors Jonah Hill, Miles Teller and Bradley Cooper.

I listened to a couple of David Packouz's interviews the past couple of days. Both interviews were over a couple hours long. What a smart guy. Plus he's got an ability to bring the audience up to speed on topics that really aren't on the average Joe's radar. Also, I thought this interviewer was terrific as well.

I know that in Ukraine the issue of military arms supplies sometimes causes some difficulties. But if this problem was up to this guy, it would be solved in a few calls.

The only reason why you say this because he's rebellious against his family and he still holds a grudge and an inner bitterness towards his family

Cant wait till you are back in SA.. I know this was a big trip for you but we were sick of American content before you came along. Hence why we were stoked you were a SA podcaster in SA doing SA content that us Aussies and everyone else loved. Glad you did this for yourself though josh.

Because even while he was on house arrest I guarantee you he was still having people pay him for stories interviews all that kind of stuff even though they couldn't release none of it until it was all said and done but he probably still made a decent chunk of money setting Anna's house just telling the story so we all make sacrifices in life and I bet you he's like well if none of that happened I probably wouldn't be where I'm at today

One more comment and then I'll quit commenting because this was one of my favorite movies I bet you if they would have just told the Pentagon like hey the stuff is chinese-made but it's being shipped from Albania they probably wouldn't even have gotten trouble because it sounds like for six months after they knew that it was chinese-made they still continue to have the deliveries delivered and yeah it was chinese-made but it wasn't being shipped from China so that seems to be a big factor as well so I think they could have worked it out to where none of it would have been a big deal

And yeah diveroli probably did f*** him over hardcore which definitely happened but if it wasn't for that all happening I don't think he would have been able to pull together the finances to create the beatbuddy or the flossing thing so in the end I bet you he's like you know what I'm glad that all happened you know f*** diveroli because he could have paid the Box dude and did things differently and it wouldn't have turned out the way that it did but without him coming into my life I wouldn't be known I wouldn't have been able to pull together the finances to make these inventions and just when the turned out the way it is now

I thought the movie war dogs was a chick flick about a dude lying to his girlfriend… the “gun running” was a huge piece of the movie.. but still a side piece.. 2 hour movie called war dogs and there’s 25 minutes worth of actual gun running in the entire film.
