Hi Fran, While watching your strategy bit I was thinking about your estimation of Spain vs Germany. When you sort by SF Spain is higher yes, but isn't that purely due to higher QF chances? if you divide SF/QF for both nations you get a pseudo conditional probability that is higher for Germany than Spain. Doesn't this indicate that Opta believes Germany is slightly favoured against Spain if they were to play?
Without knowing these inputs, this works the other way too though no? Because there must be an implication that if Georgia go through, Germany would more easily get into the QF in most instances than Spain would vs Denmark because of how much stronger Denmark is vs Georgia.
@@FPLFran I tried calculating it based on these odds. If we assume the odds of Germany - Denmark and Spain - Georgia remain the same if we swap Germany and Spain. Then we can calculate the chance of Germany winning over Spain to 53 % by Opta and Spain to win at 48,5 %: the reason it isn't 100 is because of course Germany and Spain are not exactly the same. I use the common formula from probabiliy where the chance of going to SF must be equal to the chance of going to QF * the probability of winning QF + 0(not going to QF) * times the probability of not going to QF. While you are right about it incorporates the chance of facing Georgia or Denmark, you also have to remember Spain face Denmark 30 % of the time and Germany face georgie only 17,6 % of the time so the impact of facing Georgia is small.
My current team is: GK: Pickford and Costa DEF: Cancelo, Carvajal, Cucurella, Guehi, VVD MID: Fernandes, Nico, Saka, Musiala, and Baumgartner FWD: Mbappe, Morata, and Gakpo I still have my wildcard available and 2M in budget to spend. But I have some doubts: Should I include Mbappe and Kane? Should I put Pedri in place of Nico? What are your suggestions?
Hello can anyone tell me what happens in extra time. Do you lose clean sheet points if a goal is scored in extra 30 minutes. Also do penalty shootouts score points. Cheers
Extra time and penalties Players will keep scoring points throughout extra time. However, players who play 120 minutes don't get double points for appearance or clean sheet (2 x 60 minutes). If a match goes to penalties, no points will be scored during the shoot-out.
Thank you . Interesting. Wondering if I should pick LB RB options that are likely to be subbed off keeping their clean sheet intact. Or CBs who are likely to stay on into extra time making it harder to keep a clean sheet but getting ball recoveries. Thanks anyway
Good video as always. But I´m not sure I agree with your your no WC left draft. I find it very difficult with 4 from spain, yes they will beat Georgia, but I don´t trust them to beat Germany, if that fail you are booking in 4 transfers just from that game. Imo if you don´t have a WC left and wanna play "safe" then you spread your players out so you don´t have for example 4 from 1 country and focus more on right side of bracket not left. I personally don´t play safe because I always try to beat my best rank for previous, but that comes with a huge risk. But on the other hand I can follow your thought about Spain, because it should be easy for them to advance from Georgia came and then you could maybe if everything goes well from other matches, swap 2 out for others. Good job
In theory you'd have 7 transfers to address Spain getting knocked out though, no? Maybe 4 is close to overkill, but there is also an opportunity cost to missing potentially the most one-sided fixture left in the tournament too on the flipside. Appreciate your thoughts as usual! Thank you
Hi Fran, love your videos. Now we're in the knockouts I like players who don't get subbed, especially considering extra time. Who's most likely to play the full game for Spain?
I wouldn't be surprised if Koeman decides to play Simons in a more central midfield role instead of Veerman. For right forward he's got alternatives (Frimpong) and for central midfield not really. And Veerman in the lineup after his performance is also not so likely.
With Luke shaw potentially fit again and Trent not starting next game there’s now 3 right backs competing for that spot. I think there’s a chance Walker won’t start because of that and he’s been underperforming too
hah, I said he had better odds to score, which is factual. If you backed Gakpo, that's fine and you were rewarded - it's not like he was a bad pick. Congrats again though, great game from Gakpo. Just don't go around calling people racist
Really tempted to take a gamble with frimpong. Easy matchup and Malen played terribly there, I think Frimpong deserves a shot at RW again but I have no clue on if he will. What do we thing lads?

@@FPLFran it means stats did not work well when Morocco and Croatia made their runs deep into tournaments. Focussing on just 4 teams might not be the best approach.

@@turtlesfcge did I misunderstand what Fran was saying about a non wildcard draft for the round of 16? I'm not sure why a wildcard is mentioned for MD4?
@@EnglishOak010 Some players like myself, used their wildcard during the group stages, and no longer have it left to use later in the tournament. A team that still has their WC can be aggressive with their draft, and target Spanish/Portuguese players, to target their easier fixtures, safe in the knowledge that they can change their team in MD5 if needed, for example.

I'm going vvd :D

I might do these exact two moves - but I'll keep Musi.
I feel like lukaku and mbappe could be good because I think that game could be a bit of a goal fest

if you plan on twisting on captain, why not go higher risk with williams or pedri?
