Endevour literally treated his wife pretty much like a gacha machine. That´s pretty messed up. And after what Toya told her no wonder why she ended up crazy.
In the manga she’s the one who suggested they’d have more kids. It’s like bones intentionally cut that out to make the endeavor hate grow more 😂
Edit: (I WAS WRONG)
@@bobbylight6739 dude they had that line in dabi’s dance. Just like it was set there in the manga. People keep forgetting that this backstory was two flashbacks not one.
@@kamronspencer4910 it's actually four parts but we will probably get those flash backs in the final season.
@@bobbylight6739 well no, she suggested having Fuyumi specifically, and wasn't really sold on his "if we have a kid with the Right Quirk Touya will give up" plan (it's not clear HOW against it she was, imo she seems to have gone along with it after her initial objection- and in spite of her deteriorating mental health- because of a combination of Enji's domineering personality + feeling like she didn't have a choice + not having any better ideas)
@Bobby Light she wanted toya to have ONE SIBLING. After endeavor told her the idea to create other kids to make Toya stop his drive to train, she said "That's too cruel!"
Yeah, this was called “The wrong way to put out a fire” for a reason. It’s honestly a perfect way of looking at what Endeavor did to Touya. Endeavor sparked the fire, and instead of giving it calm and gentle water or something to put it out, he basically poured gasoline and paint thinner on it, and then proceeded to ignore the fire and let it build, not realizing that he was not only the root of the problem but also the main one making it worse.
And by the time he did realize it, it’s all just too little too late.
How did you get 16 likes within an hour commenting on a video that's months old? 🤔
@@Reanimatedyt To be completely honest, I really like interacting with people, and I know that nobody would really interact with this comment if they didn’t see it, so I asked a couple friends to like it. I realize that it’s kinda a silly thing to do.
@@Reanimatedyt Would you like me to delete the comment? I can if you’d like. 😅
@@natsuotodoroki No it's not a big deal lol, I was just curious. Thank you though!
@@Reanimatedyt Thank you! I’ll probably be hanging around here more since I’ve really liked the videos I’ve seen from you! 😅
The thing with Endeavor's "talk" with Toya is that he didn't show him enough value even if not training (hanging out with him in general to give him attention as a parent). So left him too much to his own devices and pushed Rei to handle things as time went on.
He told Toya to give up his obsession, but he wouldn't give up his own obsession to surprass All Might with a child. Toya saw that, so he was hypocritical. This is coming from someone who loves Endeavor's character as a favorite, as sometimes I've seen some people with these parts excuse him a bit too much from his mistakes with Toya, since Toya was mentally unstable.
Yoooo that’s actually a good ass point I ain’t think of it like that. You don’t think endeavor felt bad and didn’t wanna face him because he is the symbol of what he wants to be kinda? Like in terms of a man like my dad, aiming for the top. I could imagine a similar story with like parents wanting their kid to be a great doctor or to be a great fighter because now they are injured u know? Like it’s fine to have aspirations but endeavor got caught up and went too far u feel me
@Jaime Hilaire Yeah, definitely a big part of it. Would more have to confront his own obsession he was lost in. He couldn't manage to move from it himself, so lost on him to feel more comfortable to evade to not fully address with Toya. Yes, parents could intentionally or unintentionally try to live vicariously through their children as their legacy. Toya indeed was his father's son and stubborn as he was. lol
Endeavor tried to live out his failed dreams through his family. And once that didn't work, he kept trying to create a powerful child. So focused on his own ambition that he had tunnel vision and didn't see the damage he was doing to his family. Even after traumatizing his family and losing Touya, he didn't become better for years. Which is why I think he's one of the most complicated characters in the series. Because we see the progress he's made now, but we also see how horrible he used to be. We saw that what he did was truly the wrong way to put out the fire he lit under Touya
I see a lot of horrendous takes where people are like "Oh, so Toya has always just been crazy and evil. His backstory isn't nearly as bad as I thought." Like no. Toya might not have been physically abused, but he was a victim of severe emotional abuse and neglect. This should go without saying but no child should have to live with parents that aren't willing to give them an ounce of emotional support. He can be told not to use his quirk, but he needs parents there to dedicate the time to guiding him towards a productive use of his life. Toya is still a victim, do not get it twisted.
100% facts
Toya WAS a victim... Now he's a batshit monster.
@@aubinndewe2373 Oh absolutely. Nothing excuses his current behaviour. But he didn't just wake up one day and decide he's evil.
@@aubinndewe2373 Well, you’re definitely not wrong, but he’s only a “monster” now because of being a victim, so imho it’s not that easy to separate. That’s not to say Dabi isn’t responsible for his actions, but he wouldn’t have been in a place to do those actions if he wasn’t a victim.
He’s still evil
As the saying goes, you create your own monster. Endeavor created his own monster in Dabi... All because he just wanted to prove he's better than All Might
the past never die.
Yup very sad and true
Dabi narratively is Frankenstein's monster. That connection shown even stronger later. There was a panel in manga from pro hero arc when he first meets Endeavor after High end fight with pose like Frankenstein's monster for how Dabi looked holding his hands out.
@@GreenLemon853i love this saying
Touya also created dabi himself
HOW sad is it that the whole conversation about adjusting power is what Midoriya had with Endeavor a decade later, and if Endeavor had just addressed and controlled his discomfort, self-hatred, resentment, and awkwardness, he could have come to those same conclusions with Toya, too. "I see, you're like one of us. You have trouble with your quirk, too."
Enji jumped into having kids at 20 without even addressing his own fear and anger about his fire.
Now that it's put into words, Enjoy really was a young ass father. So many problems would have been averted if he just didn't do so much mental gymnastics to justify his actions.
What's so sad is that Toya could have gotten some help like Deku did when he was shattering his bones, support items and school training but Endeavor basically just gave up on Toya the moment he wasn't what he wanted. As for Toya, I would say that it WAS about survival for him, but a mental/emotional survival. His father basically said that the only reason you exist, the only reason you were born, was to be my tool in beating All Might. When he was cast aside, Toya lost that reason for being. That reason to actually exist. It's that, that makes this so tragic.
I'm pretty sure that's what he and Rei were talking to the doctor about near the beginning, and support items aren't a cure-all- the fire comes from parts of their body, and Touya's fire could burn him. I really don't think there's a fix for that. Deku would grow into OfA by synchronizing with it- Touya would grow further OUT of his quirk as his firepower outpaced his fire resistance.
@@o0Evo0o nah there's definitely support items for him out there. It's a literal anime
@@o0Evo0o I think they were just talking to the doctor about what was happening with the son in the first place, he would have been really young then and not ready for support items. They didn't want to really go into it with the doctor because Quirk marriages and such is illegal and taboo. I think that he could have gotten something to help cool his body off if he got to hot, or to training to help with his emotions. Not just Deku, but other heroes have gotten items that reduce the stress on their bodies. I think there HAS to be someone that can do something.
@@IreneShardaForever Touya's problem wasn't "getting too hot" it was burning himself, and "making someone fireproof" is WAY beyond the capabilities of any support gear we've seen.
And there's *definitely* no support gear that could help the less severe problem of overheating, because that's Endeavor's problem and the reason he turned to a quirk marriage.
People whose quirks have backlash like this just don't become Heroes. That's why people were bagging on Deku/All Might and telling him he absolutely NEEDED to find a way to use his quirk that didn't hurt him
"His boyfriend's in critical condition of course he's upset" lmao 😂
Ngl seeing the abuse actually animated was kinda sad 😭
Damn they did not hold back on the abuse at all. Like sheesh, this was kinda hard to watch at parts. But it does illustrate how far Endeavor has come when you see how horrible he was to his family. There is no ambiguity at all; he was abusive, and he was cruel. He might not get forgiveness and probably doesn't deserve it, but he's trying to atone for what he did.
The whole Todoroki family story is a major highlight of My Hero.
Imagine being born just to fulfill your dads dream
But when you cant do that ypu are deemed worthless/failure and tossed aside and gets replaced
And all you want to do is proving you werent a mistake
Man that hurts
Hey y’all happy Saturday, even though we saw it through Shoto’s backstory back in season 2; this episode was so emotional to watch!! All of them been through a lot….
Bones went in their bag while adapting Toya’s breakdown into a tragic demon. The scene where he told his mama a variant of “I didn’t ask to be born” hurt
Toya is 24, Fuyumi is 23, Natsuo is 19 and Shoto is 16
Damn mama todoroki in good shape at 44+ and having 4 kids
@@Oakland510 she’s so pretty
I think it’s kinda interesting that even though Endeavor is the main problem here, Rei and the oldest don’t shy away from saying they could’ve done things differently in certain regards. Also I’m glad the show didn’t do something as easy as Endeavor pushing Toya to try harder with his power. It shows that as warped as his growing obsession was, he was never so deep in it that he wanted any of his kids to risk death to achieve his dream. I think that adds a level of complexity to him that could’ve easily been tossed aside to make him more of worse person in his youth.
So to be in a shonen anime you have 2 options fatherless or abusive father, but Damn that was an emotional ep,
In Toya’s case both
Damn now that you mention it there isn’t a single shounen character with a dad in their life
@@biglittlegaming5826 Ichigo's Dad: What am I chopped liver?
Gon's Dad: And what about me?
Ichigo's Dad: So, you need to be remin....
Gon's Dad: NVM!!!!
@@biglittlegaming5826 Ichigo got a Dad
One sort of important detail that I almost missed was that the doctor said that Toya's body was essentially better suited to take the cold. Meaning that he would start burning himself up even faster, add on top of that that his flames are stronger then Endeavor's? He probably would have to be a hibachi chef, he physically can't burn like Endeavor.
Endeavor/Enji's obsessions made him mentally unstable (which went untreated). It made him go insane, drive his wife (Rei) and oldest son (Toya) insane, and let said oldest son drive him further insane.
Toya inherited Enji's stubbornness, obsessiveness, and mental instability (which also went untreated). His need to have 💯of his Dad's attention, and prove he wasn't a "mistake" partly led to him and Enji driving each other (further) crazy.
Rei, while not mental unstable (at first), WAS mentally venerable to her husband's and son's actions. She could have seeked help (as could Enji), but instead did nothing until the damage was already done. By that time, she had watched (and somewhat allowed) her husband and son drive each other and her insane. (And watch Enji abuse Shoto, thru "training," while he neglected his other kids, and risked their mental health as well.
Let's not forget Rei's parents: They agreed to their daughter's Quirk Marriage for money and clout. Then they seemed to stayed out of this altogether as if they never even had anything to do with how this all started. Then the one (and only) time their daughter tried to get some help, she called them (the Teapot Incident). And I'm guessing they were saying, before Shoto entered the kitchen, "Well, just try to stick it out, dear.... We still need the money! Plus, it would look bad for both our families!!!"
Still make no mistake about *ENDEAVOR'S MOSTLY TO BLAME FOR ALL OF THIS (about 85-90% at minimum)!!!!!!!*
no one should be blaming anymore everyone is taking accountability
10:17 This right here. A lot of people overlook this particular seen when it comes to Hawks and how he feels about Endeavor. Of course he's still a fan of his and all, but this is a very definitive moment(to me anyways) on how Hawks feels about Endeavor.
He isn't a fan of him like how Izuku is a fan of All Might, because despite how great All Might is, the man was very short-sighted at times(he literally left Izuku on a roof lol). If anything, he's like Bakugo with his admiration of All Might, where we recently saw him interact with him when Izuku was training with Float. You could see some kind of frustration and even resentment on Bakugo's end when All Might wouldn't disclose the specifics about the user's of One For All with Izuku, and generally, Bakugo holds All Might to a lesser standard unlike Izuku. Hawks demonstrates the same qualities over the course of his interactions with Endeavor(he even mocked and kind of humiliated him at the Hero Rankings lol).
To me, this moment where Hawks asks this question really could have changed how he would handled the situation with Endeavor. Of course he still would have helped him and all, but their relationship would have completely altered, even though he knows he has changed. His reaction with Shouto when Rei responded it was her doing, to me, seems like he really wanted to say to him, "Now me, personally..." lmao 😂
I'm okay with Hawks wanting to help Endeavor, but I'm really glad that Horikoshi wrote this scene in the manga. It shows Hawks isn't a typical fanboy and that he WILL call Endeavor out on bull lol. I can just imagine what goes through his mind daily since he found out that the man who arrested his father was, in essence, still his father. 🤣
9:22 🤣 deku literally save whole todoroki family because todoroki also walking same path as Toya but deku make him realise that he is in UA to become hero not to take revenge frm his father
Am I wrong for not feeling bad for Endeavor? He’s been better but he was a bastard for decades. People been saying it’s not his fault and to wait for this episode for backstory, but I feel like it only proved my point.
It was Endeavors fault
You're not supposed to feel bad for Endeavor necessarily. Hell, he doesn't even feel bad for himself. The viewer, his family and finally himself all realize that he has put himself and his family in this situation. You're supposed to want Endeavor to do the right thing moving forward. Face his past, move on and do better.
I think a lot of people see characters like this and think you're supposed to feel bad for them or forgive them or whatever, but that's not at all what these characters are about. It's about atonement. Becoming a better man and moving towards the future as that man. That atonement affects what being the No.1 Hero means to him, what being a father means, who he is to Rei, and who Enji Todoroki is at the very core. Endeavor is not a simple character nor does he have a simple story and that's one of the reasons I love him.
nah, he is not the victim, no need to feel sorry for him.
@@ayselengin1798 how is he not the victim
@@kaikojiro well said
I really feel so bad for Rei she just needed a normal family.
It was rough.
Dabi though
@@jameswtlocs Feel bad for him too, but Rei really had no say in if she wanted to marry Enji or have children with him she was practically forced into this life with someone who didn’t even care about hurting her or her children in the matter.
This ep did some good world building and deku talking to the original holders of all for one was fire I can’t wait for the next ep
10:55 Sherm: *smiles in manga reader*
😂😂😂
Touya is like Damian from Spy X Family, expect instead of earning good grades and stars to get his Father's attention it's fucking setting yourself on fire.
7:47 he def knows that blue flames are hotter than red he just doesnt have alot of care for his own saftey , hes more focused on proving his worth to his dad
As strong as Endeavor is, it's interesting how all the kids mainly take after her mother since her genes are stronger.
Shoto was just lucky to get both aspects of fire and ice perfectly.
it funny if he had toya with a another woman that had ice related/cold quirk imagine the even worse drama of being the number 2's illegitimate child and having been force to hide an unwanted child and them throwing away that child for the designer baby shot became by pure chance.
“what you say woman” LMAOO
Toya was a boy that took after his father more than just a little, he was shown a goal... given a dream and he made it his own. He wanted to reach it with every fiber of his being till it became just as much of an obsession as Endeavor's was.
The kicker of it all is that the real reason (imo) Endeavor wouldn't face his son and try to make him quit is that by forcing his son to confront reality and realize how hopeless that goal of surpassing All Might was would have forced Endeavor to also confront how hopeless his own dreams of surpassing All Might were. That need to stay in denial of what reality was is what sealed Toya's fate.
Endeavor's probably 21 when he married Rei- he reached #2 at 20, and was 22 when Touya was born
Bro why is pre character development endeavor more scary than all for one
Because AFO is like he is up front!!!
Cause pre Endeavor feels real, that shit actually happens in real life

Can't wait lmao!!
I've seen so many Endeavor apologists from when the story was young that I'm glad they were very clear with how nasty he was. I don't enjoy watching it, though.
It's so sad because Shoto was only born because Touya wasn't the child Endeavor wanted so he abandoned him for Shoto.
Man this episode was heavy
I’m sure endeavor could have found a support item or a suit to help with his fire power and still progressed with his training ( for toya)
I just got Endeavor tattooed yesterday.
This episode, and manga chapter, is one of the hardest to read. Endeavor was awful, he was a terrible father and husband, and it triggered me a bit bcs he reminded me of my father. When I first started MHA, I hated Endeavor, I wanted him gone, but overtime, as he got better, as he grew as a character, I couldn't help but support him, it all started, for me, with Inasa's recognition of Endeavor, and then with how much Hawks believed in him, and after the High-End fight, I had to support Endeavor as well.
He became my favorite character pretty quickly after that, he was able to overcome many of his faults and is still working to be better, he has not given up. I think it is admirable.
That’s dope!! And yeah what he did in the past was wrong, but he’s taking accountability and trying to make it as right as his family will let him. I’m not mad at it.
@@Reanimatedyt It's the same for me. He takes accountability and tries to be better, it's not a "im sorry lets put it behind us", which is why his growth is fantastic.
This episode was really good I still want to know how Dabi survived tho and the possibility of the hero’s finding out about one for all is really interesting
The series will definitely cover what happens after between Touya’s “death” and Dabi’s birth.
You will not be let down when you find out. Trust.

Toya literally can't use his quirk. His skin was built for an ice quirk and his fire is too strong.
Just like how Endeavor projected his positive traits onto Shoto he projected his negative ones onto Touya.
Now tbf he was projecting his positive traits onto Shoto after he realize what a unforgivable ****head he was (that even he can't forgive himself) and started atoning. Up to then, and from finding out Toya's condition, Endeavor projected his negative traits on ALL his kids. They just each handled it differently.

@@Reanimatedyt I guess I should say show emotions like crying etc because of how emotional the scenes are. But I wish the hospital scenes were longer.
Toya is so unlucky ha, got the highest firepower quirck but is resistant to cold instead of the heat
Wheres DR.PHIL When you need him👌
as someone in a white family, I too got slapped around it's not just yall i promise lol
😂😂😂😂
im just gonna dump my thoughts about this episode here because i have so many opinions
so as a enji todoroki lover, this episode hit really hard (as hard as when he slapped rei) because even though he's a character i love a lot and that has gotten a lot of positive development, it got to the point that i was like "man, this dude is so unlikable" LMAO
i feel like we should not dismiss the fact that while enji is largely to blame here, rei was also pretty neglectful when it came to touya. they both just did NOT handle him well. they were pretty dismissive about him in general. also saw people saying that maybe touya wasn't hopeless and whe could've just trained to handle his quirk but while i think that yes, that would've helped, it was also a genetic thing. he's not the first person with drawbacks to their quirk but his case was similar to deku's and deku literally just had to figure out how to use it right. being a hero with a flame quirk means you need to produce A LOT of fire power and if he's going to constantly burn himself, it's probably best to just not use your quirk. (also touya wanted to legit kill shoto so then training together is a FATAL idea)
anyway, touya also seemed like he already had a personality were he was influenced pretty quickly. like, man's was a misogynist as a kid and for what?? he also seemed to have that obsessive side to him like his dad. all in all, i think his already existing personality mixed with the abuse definitely made it a recipe for disaster.
in conclusion, this family needs a lot of counseling LMAO but for sure people need to like not make everything so black and white because it rarely is. that family was dysfunctional even before enji and rei met and had kids so i would say 80% of the issues was enji and the other 20% was rei.
also omg im not trying to victim blame but a lot of times victims of abuse end up being abusers too and i don't think enji or rei did any of it on purpose but instead did a lof of shit because they lacked good judgment
It's pretty hard for Endeavor to possibly think about teaching him anything else, because it could have a way of encouraging Toya to use his flames more instead of stopping. Remember Enji and Rei wanted Toya to not use his flames AT ALL, since he burns himself, so even the act of teaching him is making him burn himself more.
I'm not saying what they did instead was right, I'm just painting how messy the entire situation was. There was no guaranteed way to deal with Toya after they learned he can't use his quirk and he won't listen to either of them to stop using it.
Still they didn't properly help him find a different path in life and went ahead to have more kids. When Shoto was born, he was his replacement and favorite which Touya knew.
@@bluenach7799 He wasn't the replacement at that time, his parents, or at least Enji at the time, did NOT want Toya around Shoto after he tried to kill him as a baby and was clearly mentally unwell.
And now deku villain arc begins

Enji could've taken the time to help his family before this all went straight to hell. No.2 hero or not, being a parent means you're held accountable for how your child turns out the way they are. Plus, it's not like there was much societal instability during the Age of All Might anyway. Rei is a victim, but she's just as much to blame. She knew full-well what she was pawned on, and with expectations no less, all just for money. No wonder why Touya called her out like he did, she had NO choice and she lectured him on life choices? As much as people love blaming Endeavor for all this, it was really both their doing. They're so blessed to have had Shoto, after everything he's put up with, he STILL wants to clean up the mess they so foolishly made. Your my boy Shoto, this family doesn't deserve you.
