They are dishcloths, 7 days of the week one for each day, you can use them to set pots on though if you wish, I am so glad that you enjoy them, I thought that it makes the china and silver an easier clean up.

The crocheted dish cloths are excellent for washing dishes that cannot go in the dishwasher such as pie plates and things that might be scratched because they are soft and do not harbor bacteria because they dry out quickly. All of those gifts are lovely for lovely people. Those people are so kind and generous, and your appreciation is beautifully sincere and touching.

The towels are rather traditional for the area. They are often called flour sack towels and whimsical embroidery is often a way to personalize them. In depth of the depression, flour was sold in cloth bags and due to the harsh economic conditions, many companies printed the flour sacks in flowers and designs so they could be repurposed for shirts and dresses. My mother would explain how as a child she would get to pick out her flour sacks to have enough matching patterns for a new dress. The new sack designs were very popular at the local stores.

The Claddagh ring (Irish: fáinne Chladaigh) is a traditional Irish ring which represents love, loyalty, and friendship (the hands represent friendship, the heart represents love, and the crown represents loyalty).[1][2] The design and customs associated with it originated in the Irish fishing village of the same name in Galway. The ring, as currently known, was first produced in the 17th century

Please, fellow US American. Don't allow the madness to get to you. Focus on the things you can effect and let the rest go to the crazies. The world is and always has been full of insanity. So appreciate whatever good things appear in your life. I do now. It took me too long to learn this lesson, but now that I have (at 56), I can actually say I am happy for the first time in 5 decades. I have zero family, zero friends (left my home faith) and so I'm quite alone in the world, but still I find joy in a degree of freedom most people would pay money to have. (So glad I scrolled down this far to find you). I frequent Selmar's Facebook page and the one for the chateau. It'll bring you a booster shot of chateau fanfare and life. Hope we cross paths again.

Hi!! Philip - it's a Cladagh 'ring' it's from an area in my home town of Galway. Everyone gets one ( usually) when they are 7yo and some people use them as wedding rings. It represents love, loyalty and friendship! If you wear it with the heart facing in you have already given yourself to someone and your heart is taken and if you wear it with the heart facing out then you are searching for love. This makes more sense in the context of a ring. If you interested maybe google will explain things a bit better than me.
I hope that you like the brooch :) it made me so excited to see it 💚

The embroidered daily kitchen towels are an American tradition. I have a set that my birth-Mother made that I have never used and a worn set that my Grandmother did use! I always thought I would have them made into curtains for the kitchen, but I have too many windows!

In WV, the crocheted items would be dish rags, but I use mine for potholders and hot plates also!

Very odd weather in central Texas, too! August 2 and RAIN today at 73 degrees (F). Things are still green and not crunchy brown! So out of the ordinary!

The short round brushes are great for scrub if veggies, potatoes, ( removing silk from corn on cob). All brushes are for use in kitchen.

The long Haviland serving dish might be for Asparagus, sliced tomatoes would also be lovely served in it. Such a beautiful pattern,I wonder what it is called.💖💞💞💖 I think the new china pantry will be full before you know it.

That long shallow rectangular dish is actuallly a bread dish for sliced bread. An asparagus dish is actually really flat and pierced with an underdish to catch the cooking water.
