They are dishcloths, 7 days of the week one for each day, you can use them to set pots on though if you wish, I am so glad that you enjoy them, I thought that it makes the china and silver an easier clean up.
A Very beautiful and creative gift. It was so nice of you to clarify their use. They certainly brought joy and laughter to everyone and one just for Philip so sweet.🌈💕🇨🇦
Really lovely, Eugene! This project had to have taken hours and I know that it was done with much love! I am especially fond of the one you made for Phillip! ♥️
I have several of those crochet squares. I use them for dish wash cloths, buffers between my stored skillets and also to put hot pots on the table. Many multiple uses.
Philip is the embodiment of telling your grandmother one time that you like hedgehogs and her only getting you hedge hog things for the rest of her life. Buy the boy some spoons or fancy vests folks lol
The crocheted dish cloths are excellent for washing dishes that cannot go in the dishwasher such as pie plates and things that might be scratched because they are soft and do not harbor bacteria because they dry out quickly. All of those gifts are lovely for lovely people. Those people are so kind and generous, and your appreciation is beautifully sincere and touching.
The towels are rather traditional for the area. They are often called flour sack towels and whimsical embroidery is often a way to personalize them. In depth of the depression, flour was sold in cloth bags and due to the harsh economic conditions, many companies printed the flour sacks in flowers and designs so they could be repurposed for shirts and dresses. My mother would explain how as a child she would get to pick out her flour sacks to have enough matching patterns for a new dress. The new sack designs were very popular at the local stores.

With all that has happened over the past year, with lockdowns, isolation, fear , uncertainty, we could tune into your channels and you made us feel we weren't alone, that we were part of something bigger than ourselves, you gave us hope, understanding and yes love and appreciation for the smallest to the biggest of things in our own lives. As a knitter & crocheter, those are dish clothes. If you try to use as potholders you will be burned. You need two solid layers for a potholder.
Also, if it's acrylic yarn, they can melt! I only use cotton for potholders just in case.
