Magical Maestro is one of my absolute favorite cartoons! The bit where Spike/Butch pulls the hair from the film always makes me laugh. Also, does anyone remember why Spike/Butch was the main character in so many of Tex Avery's cartoons?
He was the villain in a lot of Droopy cartoons, but I read that they called him Butch in order to differentiate him from the bulldog from the Tom and Jerry cartoons, and the Spike and Tyke cartoons.
The hair pull made me squeak in surprise and burst into laughter! I've seen so many many old cartoons and films (that include hairs on the capture) that I didn't even notice it until it was yanked and tossed aside. I bet it surprised a lot of people in the theatres when it was first shown! Great breakage of the fourth wall, I haven't seen anything like it before! Cartoons often break the fourth wall but that was a surprisingly subtle and realistic way to do it. Usually they show characters jumping out of the screen into a cartoon theater or something when they want to completely acknowledge their medium, but this was a really funny way to do it.
I find these gags funny, hilarious and legendary. And I'm a Black, Puerto Rican and Irish man. Not offended by it whatsoever. Don't hold back. I can take it.
Somehow, I wished that I knew the lyrics to the Hawaiian dance half of this cartoon. But either way, the cartoon involving tex Avery is so funny that I went to sleep laughing.

I agree me and my Grandpa used to crack up laughing as a kid back in the late 1970s- Early 1980s and we were black. Hell my Grandpa watched that back in the day when it came out and didn't think anything of it
I miss this cartoon. I found it hilarious as a kid. I didn't care what he was making fun, only that he kept changing and messing with him. And yes, he hit everyone he could. I love the fact that he actually made fun of what I guess was a square dance caller.

It's like having anything that doesn't belong there like having heavy metal band in a Wagner Opera or a clown or anything else. It's kind of a highbrow act which is more or less "sacred" (which they often mock with in The Muppet Show, Sam the Eagle being so high brow and dignified that he thinks even tap dancing from Vaudeville being of a lower class, hence why he attempts to class up the show especially in the Rudolph Nureyev episode). That's the reason the man in the box annoyed to the pount he throws fruit, sprays ink at Poochini and drops an anvil at him, cuz he expect a proper opera when this guy sings country, square dance, a child's song, chinese folk song, etc. It's no wonder why Poochini feels embarresed and humiliated to the point when the magician is exposed, ge doesn't hesitate to get his revenge at the guy.
