Part 2 coming, will be out within 14 days and after another video I already had been working on.
Was kinda disappointed when the video ended. Had me hooked from the beginning and would’ve loved to hear more about his transition into 2014 FHD and now. Great video!
I might make a massive videos covering everything J Cole from the start to now
and thank you!
Part 2?
@@fuevue2913 late response but yuhhh!!
The first real Cole album was "Friday Night Lights" he himself said it was supposed to be an album
He did say that but The Come Up has to be it, put him on the map!
Friday Night Lights is arguably his best work in my opinion
@@alexallen126still listen to that joint to this date tbh 💪🏿💪🏿💪🏿
Quick critique , there was a time in rap where mixtapes were more hyped than albums. It gave artist a chance to release a compilation of raw original ideas instead of mainstreaming most songs for albums.
Come up
Warm up
Friday night lights
(Wayne)no ceilings
The list goes on
I’m not old enough to have listened back then but I thought labels always cared about albums more
@@MattMirandaalbums make money, mixtapes are free so yea the label always cares more about an album. If anything, artist use mixtapes sometimes to drop music when the label is blocking the album
Best definition I’ve ever seen of mixtape. Actually life changing
@@MattMiranda mixtapes were for
Promo, us the fans , and a way for them to put a genuine piece of themselves out. Notice they were always free
Cole's career story really is something of a movie. Nice breakdown.
It is wild, thank you 🙏
Thought the view count was 1.3 million not 1.3k when I clicked on it. The thumbnail was professional, the quality, the audio, the storytelling, the clips of jcole talking, everything was perfect. Cant wait to see your channel blow up man this was such a good video, I’m subscribing

Amazing insightful video bro
Glad you enjoyed!
get this man the views he deserves
I'll keep the content coming
J. Cole didn’t have permission to release “Friday Night Lights”. That’s why on GOMD he states, “Even Hov tried to keep it and I leaked the damn tape”.
You’re right, makes the story even better. Seems like the label didn’t really believe in Cole
BABBEEEE WAKE UP MATT MIRANDA DROPPED
Spacial the goat
@@MattMiranda 💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾
We need part 2!!!
We can do that
@@MattMiranda Thank you sir!💯💯
Man not gone 🧢, while everybody a bandwagon hopper that LOVED J.cole from the jump, i thought hewas mediocre. Just me. Always did. I liked some scattered songs here and there. It was like almost to Forest hills before i really was like wow. I WAS a day one listener, but I WASNT a day one fan. But he def grew on me and made me a believer.
I really only got into rap after forest hills drive dropped so for me it was diving back into an artist I already enjoyed. I definitely like songs from his older projects but there is the occasional miss.
Lol I would like a part 2. Should do a whole Cole
Not sure if I’ll restart from the beginning or continue from here
There’s a difference between albums and mixtapes especially when the come up came out
Yeah, seems like most people who listened back then say that mixtapes were more important than I mentioned
awesome video
Thanks!
I never really liked J Cole up until pretty recently; his albums weren’t nearly as smart and as well thought out as Kendrick’s, and his music wasn’t nearly as melodic and enjoyable as Drake’s. But he’s really loosened up over the years, collabing with non lyrical-miracle artists and really going on a crazy feature run as of late…
I’ve always preferred him over Kendrick and drake. The most replay ability while still saying something for me.
HOW DO YOU ONLY HAVE 50 VIEWS AND 17K SUBS?????
Let's see what I have at the end of the year
@@MattMiranda yay
damn this a good ass video
I appreciate it, more on the way
Who Dat being a flop is crazy. I loved that song first song I heard and had it on repeat.
Same here, didn’t hear it till way later though
This vid ended prematurely, give us part 2 please ”the rise and rise of j cole”
We can run it back for a part 2
Good video
Thank you! Always appreciate those who show love
Wen part 2?
within 2 weeks, video about Cole Bennett next because I had already nearly finished it.
Made Nas Proud made me cry
Great song
I’ve been listening to J.Cole since 2007. Honestly I don’t see why everyone is saying he’s top tier. J.Cole been sounding the same since 2007 🤷🏾♂️. Now is he top tier in the bars and in his flow absolutely! But still waiting on him to put out a album better than Kendrick’s “DAMN”
Sometimes music doesn’t gel with people for a number of reasons. For me Cole has always dominated Kendrick, Kendrick is great but, imo, struggles with replay ability at times.
Where’s that j Cole footage from?
ua-cam.com/video/wY5_0k2g-94/v-deo.htmlsi=aCs7FagrX0yGd4Cq
Good video but I clicked when this guy was comparing Who Dat (a song that came out in '09) and Crew (came out in '16)
Clicked off? Also I wasn’t trying to compare songs from the same time, just to getter point across. Even in the video that I showed a few times Cole compared it to songs that were not released within years of Who Dat, but the songs he mentioned he could’ve heard before they were released.
He is basically always trying to please people
That’s part of signing to a label, but it doesn’t stay that way
1:23 the Biden tweet??!!?? lmaoo
haters will say it's fake
@@MattMiranda 😂😂😭
At no point during this story did J Cole “fail” 😂
He dropped some of the worst performing songs at the time and the label was consistently unhappy with what he made, it just aged well. At the time it seemed like failure though.
literally commenting again for an algorithm push 💪🏾🪐 Great video man
Legend!
Is there a reason why Jay Z and J Cole only have 2 songs together in their 14year relationship?
I was going to look into this for a separate video, despite being signed to Jay’s label they’ve seemed to never really associate with each other. Odd
@@MattMiranda
Please do 🙏🏿 it’s had me curious for awhile now.
"he blew up off mixtapes the industry didn't respect that yet "
Wrong the labels were using mixtapes for rap artist to get a buzz before releasing a single and then the album ...
Labels were using that formula since it worked for 50 cent in 2002 ... 6 years before j Cole got signed ...
You also had acts like young Jeezy and lil Wayne blow up off mixtapes and have large commercial success so the idea that labels didn't respect artist blowing up off mixtapes is wro f
This definitely could be true. Based on what I saw there was a time where people started to think mixtapes were getting old and that something more cohesive proves more of the artist, I could have worded it better for sure.
This video ended pretty fast
At some point I am going to make a whole story of Cole type of video
Did you compare a 2017 GoldLink track to a 2010 Cole? Did you put Omen and Jay Z in the same sentence? What is happening? Lol
It’s just an example of a melodic song, yes, let me cook
I really hated who that
It grew on me
