    KITCHEN HACK: To keep a pan from boiling over, place a wooden spoon across the top of the pan. It needs to touch both sides. You can stir around it on both sides. I have used this trick for over 40 yrs.....with everything but mostly potatoes.
    Need to make some of these. TY
    Mary

    Just wondering with the honey and boiling it. I've read that boiling is bad for it. Here's a quick reference.
    I hope this helps. I didn't know this for the longest time.
    "In order to liquefy honey, it is best to heat it at 35-40°C (95-104°F). The temperature should not go beyond 40°C (104°F) to avoid overheating. Overheating honey for any period of time will reduce its quality by destroying its enzymes, loss the delicate flavor, aroma and darkening the honey color."

      Cyndi Aquino yes, my understanding is that honey is useless once heated.. Great idea tho...

      Yeah, same thing with make making a hot lemon drink with honey. You want the health benefits, you better make a cold lemonade, sick or not! Not to mention, that it’s extremely bad for your teeth to drink a hot acidic liquid with sugar in it.
      I bet those drops taste delicious though - and you will probably still get some benefits from the oils and spices.
      Edit...you could just work in the honey once it’s cooled down though...and treat it as a cough sirup.
      I don’t think, it’ll harden into drops, if you don’t boil it, but you could slowly eat it from a spoon.

      I often see people boiling honey or putting it over meat then frying the meat with it. Bad idea to heat honey that much. Not only it becomes just a simple useless sugar it also isn't very healthy, some of its components transform at high temperature. So don't heat it higher than it would be in the beehive.

    Peppermint and citrus oils are a hard NO NO for the throat as they irritate a lot. Yes they feel refreshing but they are irritants. It is better to use chamomile or clove with ginger.

    Add the honey after you heat the other stuff. If honey over heats it’s loses it beneficial properties. I will make this for my daughter when she is old enough I will leave out the essential oils honey is pretty soothing so I feel like for me it’s unnecessarily

    Hi. I love your videos. I feel they are really informative.
    Regarding this video, I am from India and our grandmothers always said that heating honey is extremely toxic as per Ayurveda medicine. So we never add honey to anything hot and never ever put it on heat.
    Will you be able to suggest a healthy substitute?

      You're welcome! Clary sage, frankincense, and thyme essential oil would be great for that. You can use peppermint for hot flashes.

    Already over cold number two here...with another one yet to come, I‘m sure...winter in the city sucks!
    Question: are these kid friendly? I‘m almost assuming they are, since you’re a mom, but kids are often so picky with strong flavors. Thanks!

    • @erickamoore52
      @erickamoore52 Рік тому

      It should harden almost immediately. If it doesn’t, you didn’t reach the right temperature. Also, the freezer is not a good idea. It makes the cough drops sweat and you lose part of the drop

    please for the love of God and your body do not use essential oils almost all of those oils she mentioned are too harsh to be on your skin directly so they if they're too hard to be on your skin there too hard to go in your body essential oils is not for cooking

      YES, they should NEVER be ingested or used topically when undiluted

    • @erickamoore52
      @erickamoore52 Рік тому

      That’s why you have to use a carrier oil like coconut oil, to dilute it. In this recipe, they’re diluted by hot tea water and honey.

      @@erickamoore52 you still shouldn't be ingesting essential oils. They aren't made for that, and you can quite literally poison yourself. If you want to add similar things, you need EXTRACTS, *NOT* essential oils. They aren't the same thing. At no point ever should you be ingesting essential oil unless you can find 1000% proven evidence that it's safe.

      Several are safe for internal use. Depends on the brand and the oil. :)
