  • In this episode, I review the ultimate small wave surfboard DaveySKY Skiff which was designed and shaped by Dave Kaminsky in Manasquan, New Jersey.
    The Skiff is so magical! It works for 110% in all type of small waves! It glides and flies down the line effortlessly. I was really impressed with the performance of the board. The Skiff is a twin fin keel fish with flat deck, ultra low rocker with light belly to vee double bottom contour.
    I would highly recommend Skiff to anyone who is looking for a small wave board that will never disappoint.

    Really interesting to see a board so short with so much volume but not crazy thick. Must be doing something clever with volume distribution. Thanks for the review

      Hey Brian! When I picked up, I was like.. These rails are way too refined for a small wave board.. but he definitely put into this board some magic in terms of volume distribution. My 5’2” Hydrodynamica Mini Simmons feels bulky and corky after the Skiff! Cheers 🤙🏼

    I have the keeper but now I want the skiff too!! 😭😂

      Yes! My buddy got The Skiff and Keeper at the same time. I see him more often on the Skiff catching all the inside dreamers now when it's small. He's been only surfing 6'8" Firewire Seaside and Beyond for the past 1.5 years but not anymore. The Skiff has unlocked his surfing but when it hits 3-4ft+ size, the Keeper is the way to go!

    Dave is working on my Skiff right now. In your video, it looks like you took it out in some high tide, mushier days and still got into the wave early? Thanks for all the reviews and keep up the good work!

      Hey Rich!. That's awesome! Yes, I was able to glide into unbroken waves very easy. His personal board is pretty loaded with the resin tint and tail patches. So it's not very light but I think it helps a lot to glide better. My friend Marvin got his 5'3" and it feels much lighter. He is also 140lbs vs me @165-170lbs. What size did you order and what's your weight/height?

      @@SkipperSurfReview I'm ~6' and 185 lbs (depending on the amount of neoprene) so my Skiff is 5'8" but also with the tail patches

      @@richscholl3735 Nice! That's what Davey's personal Skiff has - tail patches. I think it will fit the bill perfectly in this size!

    We need review rocket wide or puddle jumper

      I will see if I can get my hands on the rocket wide. The outline is pretty similar to the Mashup with less volume. Cheers!

    Hey Skipper! Luv ur vids. Now that you have been riding both the Somma Mini Super for a while, how does it compare to the DaveySKY Skiff in a side-by-side comparison?

    • @SkipperSurfReview
      @SkipperSurfReview  2 місяці тому

      Thanks for watching! The Skiff is more of a down-the-line board, offering a skatey feel with a lot of speed. It's ideal for waves in the 1-3 foot range.
      The original shape of the Mini Super is based on a Mini Simmons design. It performs well in a wide range of conditions, from ankle slappers up to 4-5 feet. My Mini Super was shaped from a blank with a rocker, allowing for more precise turns. Basically it's got way. more performance over Skiff. It also catches waves more easily and glides slightly better than the Skiff, in my opinion. Despite this, the Skiff is still a fun board. If I had to choose between the two, I would go with the Mini Super any day. Hope this helps!

    How does the Dave Sky Skiff compare to the Arc Simmons?

    • @SkipperSurfReview
      @SkipperSurfReview  2 роки тому +1

      Hi Daniel! It’s hard to say as I only surfed 5’6” Arc Mini and 5’4” DaveySKY Skiff. The dims are very different. But I think the Skiff glides much better. Arc Mini will still work in smaller waves but will have more advantage in bigger size waves like 3 ft and up with better hold.
