Totally agree with everything here but I think an important thing to understand is that holding your glove in a ready position out in front of you is meant to be ideal for making a reactive save. What you’ve highlighted in this video is the goalie taking a blocking stance where he won’t have any opportunity to react to the shot. He’s simply trying to be in the way before the shot is released. Extending the glove out in front of you for a blocking stance will give you the advantage of covering more net vertically. Holding it back in the stance like you see in the video he is maximizing his coverage vertically and laterally. It’s a good observation but I think it could use some explanation.
To me it looks like this is most applicable inside 5 feet or so? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ for me seeing my glove in my vision helps me track the puck better and get my body and eyes behind it. Sure once it gets in tight, I think you have to start looking at blocking net and low coverage. Great analysis on the small box a player has in tight. I gotta get back in there for adult session during the day. Great video Jeff (sounded like Jeff)
