It's Over-Rebecca Sugar Demo from "Mr. Greg"

- If Stephen Sondheim wrote for Steven Universe it might sound something like this. Here's what Rebecca had to say about this demo:
This may have been the hardest song I’ve written to date, I wrote and scrapped 5 or 6 versions before arriving at this… the long held note at the end after Pearl throws the rose in the air was a request from Joe, this raw recording predates it! Deedee, Aivi & Surasshu turned this song into something so incredible… infinite thanks to them and to Jeff Ball on strings… this episode was a dream made real for me and I’m so so grateful to my amazing team!!! - Фільми й анімація
The song SU fans will be singing after the show is done ._.
I was thinking to myself after the episode "great now I have learn the lyrics to every single song in this episode"
STOP YOU'RE GONNA MAKE ME CRY
It pie guy
+Mango same I am crying now 😭😭
so ture
REBECCA LEAVE MY TEAR DUCTS ALONE
Never!
“ψ(`∇´)ψ
it's downright bullying at this point.
Mood to this day
I've noticed that practically all the Pearl themed episodes have made me cry. Thanks Crewniverse.
this is why pearl is best gem
+sladikk True
well...pearl had the saddest story of the original 3... she loved rose and she lost her...
True
+Hellkaiser She still has the saddest story, the only one who might come close is Amethyst and then maybe Lapis
The first time I heard this, I didn't like the repetition of "isn't it", but then I realized - the repetition was the point. She's trapped in her own head, in an endless cycle of denial. That's why she "can't move on".
That was a brilliant episode of a brilliant show, and this song was one of the highlights. I won't say *the* highlight, because there's so much I love about it, including the still-stuck-in-my-head "Don't Cost Nothin'", Steven disguising his ever-growing savviness as childish naivete (with a shocking "No. This is *exactly* why I brought you"), and his own song "Both of You".
Oh my god, the foreshadowing. She really *is* trapped in her own head, as A Single Pale Rose would later show.

Maybe, but also must be a reference to the finale song in the musical Chicago that does the same repeated "isn't it, isn't it"
i think i'm the only person who did not cry during this song, it's sad but it's not like the omg i'm crying sad, it's more like a deep melancholy and passive sadness... (like passive aggression but more sad).
I didn't cry cuz I don't like Pearl xD
Garnet Gem I like Pearl, she is like me except old, female, and lesbian. and magical
I did not cry but I like pearl x)
I creid not 'coause it was sad but 'cause Pearl is finally starting to grow over Rose and oh well the fact pearl saw rose with other men saddened me a lot
Same
This my favorite song and favorite episode from Steven Universe.
Excellent choices
Yes I love Rebecca sugar she needs to put these put these songs in albums
+Naomi Woods yes. We need a Steven universe album. Once season four has finished we need an album for all four seasons.
Man, i wish this wasn't a filler episode
About 80 percent of the time, I prefer when Rebecca Sugar sings. But I feel like Deedee Magno Hall sung this better. That's just me I guess.
DeeDee's performance is more professional and fitting for this song (she's from Broadway, after all), and Rebecca isn't having much fun in this recording, like usual.
Usual..
***** to be, her voice sounds a lot sadder. it's a pretty heavy song, after all, and probably more so to her (the creator). she doesn't sound nearly as excited/giggly as, let's say, the demo of Do It For Her
Well DeeDee was on Broadway so she has serious talent in putting so much emotion into her acting and singing. DeeDee outdid herself on this one.
TaseTheRainbowxXAJ the saddest song ever
I think this has supplanted "Stronger Than You" as my favorite SU song.
me too
And the best episode too
same
it's over isn't is better
Its honestly Pearls Equivalent to Stronger than You, I think it so perfectly explains everything about her character and all the choices she's made throughout the show for better or worst.
I try to make a song for months and the only thing that i can write is "I LOVE POTATOES N TOMATOES" and Rebecca is like: "i am going to make something that fits the story real fast just give me some days"
"This may have been the hardest song I’ve written to date, I wrote and scrapped 5 or 6 versions before arriving at this."
I find if you're really passionate about something the words will come really easily. I've done this before multiple occasions but I won't ever say it cause it's kinda really personal XD. I guess what I'm trying to say is write from your soul I guess XD.
Don't sell yourself short. Rebecca sugar also wrote "Bacon Pancakes" 👍
*I got a potato and I got two hot tomatoes*
Beautiful song. Made me, my brother, and my sister all cry! Poor Pearl. SU is our favorite show.
Steven Universe is the best thing to come out of Cartoon Network
We haven't even watched the episode yet and me and sisters started tearing up when we heard this song.
Literally just started and finished SU recently like a month ago and I gotta say its the best cartoon ive ever seen. This is saying something since I've been watching cartoons since the 90s and Pokemon has been my favorite franchise, I've watched all 800+ episodes and you know how good the original ones were...
I remember that when I first watched SU I hated pearl (mainly because of she was salty) , but as the show progressed, I realised that she was (and is) the character I related to the most, witch started to give me some mixed feelings about her, but when I watched Mr. Greg...I wasn't just able to understand why she acts the way she does, but I felt sorry for her, and at the end I was truly happy for her for finally starting to move on,. And now she's my second most favourite characters from the entire show! Damn Rebecca, you truly are one hell of a genius.
This song is literally my theme song for the rest of my life lmao.
I've never been so emotionally impacted by an episode or song in anything ever. I've also never felt so well related to a character's personality. Thank you, so much, it makes me feel so grateful
THE CHORD PROGRESSION THO, it sounds so much more... dreamy and memorable, like something you remember from a while ago
i need the chords to this so bad aaaaa
I GOT CHORDS !!!

well, here we are in the future and its gone....
Only three episodes in summer of steven and I'm already emotionally exhausted
same XD my brother walked in on me crying because of this scene and I'm like, "You wouldn't get it..."
We're three episodes into Summer of Steven (Steven Nuke) and I've already cried
This is the song we will all be singing when the series ends. "Its over isnt it? Why cant I move on?"
Are you?
i love this song, the best episode and song of all steven universe :, (
I didnt cry during this one. But this coupled with the "Why dont you talk to each other" song did make me cry openly.
i love the struggle with the high notes at the end. it makes it seem more real and kinda relatable.
"If Stephen Sondheim wrote for Steven Universe it might sound something like this." That's so true. This song excited the musical nerd in me.
Thank you so much for uploading this! I absolutely love Rebecca's demos. Her voice and her work inspire me every day.
Rebecca has such a beautiful, mellow voice. This song is absolutely gorgeous, as is the animation. It's been stuck in my head since I watched the episode.
these dope lyrics
Thank you for all of your hard work Rebecca Sugar!!! I love all of your art so much thank you for everything! T-T
Sounds like someone got some Sugar in this salt
I love these demos. This beautiful song is one of my top favorites... ever. Rebecca, you continue to inspire and amaze me.
Beautiful as always...
Thanks for another amazing episode and song!
I haven't been able to get this song out of my head since the episode came out, now I really want to learn the ukulele version
!!! im figuring out all of it on the uke, ive actually figured all of her songs out so far but if youd like ill try and write the tabs up for this when i can and ill link you? its pretty easy up till the war and glory part
Pigeon that would be amazing of you! Thanks so much (☆^▽^☆)
I would love a link too please :)
I feel more identified and touched with Perl's frustrated love than with any character of any movie or TV show. Like, somehow they manage to make this limited drawings to be more expressive than an actual actor... Or maybe it's just the story? I don't know, I just feel amazed, and saddene by the fact that so many adults would probably love the show but will never watch it because "it's for children", like they didn't learn anything from the little prince.
This is why I love your channel
Everyone who works on the show is incredible!!! This episode (just like many others) was beautiful!!!
I really love the songs in this episode, it was so beautiful.
Beautifully crafted. . brought ME to tears. . Thank You!
New favourite song, from new favourite episode! Beautiful. 😍
This is my favourite episode so far (and probably for a long time)
Very emotional... Great work! :3
It's Over is now one of my favorite songs, I just love Rebecca
I was already waiting for this :3
ITS...... EPIC!!!!! THANKS U SO MUCH FOR THIS GREAT AND LOVELY SONG
This was a (another) very special episode. The theatrical texture was amplified tenfold for this story, and worked wonderfully as a character study into Pearl's and Greg's relationship. Really powerful. I think the comparison to Stephen Sondheim is spot on. Steven Universe continues to set the bar for televised animation, and on a personal level constantly inspires me in my own life. You have an amazingly talented daughter, and I can't wait to see what happens next on the show!
I LOVE this episode so much. This song especially. I cried, and the music just stuck in my head and then I cry because I remember the episode because the songs are stuck in my head.
this was a really beautiful song and the animation made it so much more beautiful :")
this one is just beautiful.

Oms, is so beautifull, i cried, it was amazing, thanks you very much, Rebecca
This song absolutely wrecked me, as did Steven's song to Greg and Pearl... Such beautiful, heartfelt, story-telling music.
this is so good :') just marvellous
Pearl is the best!! This song is so amazing. So many poignant lines. T_T
this was one of my favourite songs in this episode and is definitely one of my favourite Steven universe songs overall
Honestly, this was such a great song in a great episode that was also incredibly daring for both the SU team and Cartoon Network, themselves. The episode really deserves an Emmy.
I SSOOOO LOVED THIS EPISODE!!!! I hope Rebecca searches forums for discussions on her episodes :D so many people loved this from what i've seen.
Pearl looks amazing in that suit.
Man, I'm so glad we got so many amazing songs in Steven Universe.

This song made me cry, I wasn't expecting it T_T
Best song to date!!
whenever Rebecca says "isn't it?" in the song a little piece of my heart explodes from how good she sounds *o*
As a musical theatre nerd, this episode was perfect. Reading the description and seeing Sondheim referenced makes me feel fuzzy.
I almost prefer this actually … So down-to-earth and beautiful
Puedo apostar que esta nueva canción se convertirá pronto en la favorita de muchos, tal como Stronger than you :)
seria mi favorita, por la letra, pero a veces la melodia no me gusta mucho
igual llore de todos modos T.T
this song makes me cry 😭😭😭
Magnificent song. No more to say.
I love Rebecca's voice, it's very refreshing and cute!
me encanto está canción , Rebeca sabes llegar al corazón , tus canciones llegan al alma :')
i cant wait to learn to play this on my own uke.
I came to this version mainly to see of Rebecca did it on her uke. I am glad I did!
Is it pronounced 'yoo-k' or 'ook', I'm pretty sure it's the first, but it may end up being the lattet
Rebecca, you are the best compositor ever and Steven Universe is the best show ever. "what can I do for you that no one else can do?" You already did.- SU🌟- Congratulations to all amazing people that participate into that tv show creation and all the others from Cartoon Network. You are all awesome and beautiful people. Thanks :)
ps: congrats daddy Sugar, your daughter is amazing!
Someday in the future Amethyst will ask Pearl:
-After all this time?
And then Pearl will holoproject Rose Quartz in the air and say:
-Always ...
This is my favorite song, but WHO had the nerve to dislike the song?! D:
