  • On safari through Botswana's wilderness in a dugout canoe: Rather than rumbling through nature in a noisy jeep, glide silently through the water in a traditional mokoro boat - getting closer than ever to elephants, hippos, and other animals, without disturbing them with noise, and exhaust fumes.
How would you like to observe wild African animals in their natural habitat?

An excellent video and Botswana's efforts in the conservation field are to be applauded. However having 5 children is going to be a big problem in the future in Africa where the population explosion threatens both the environment and the general human population's long-term well being! Put some of that diamond and tourist money into birth control programs.

Sometimes it is wise to do some research before rushing to make general assumptions associated with Africa. Botswana is not your typical African country. Nobody under the age of 50 has 5 children in Botswana today. It is an EXPENSIVE country to live in. It is very sparsely populated with less than 2.4 million people for a country that is geographically as vast as France or Texas. Its birthrate is well below global average, and is one of the lowest in the world. People are EDUCATED in Botswana, and are not as backward as you might think. It ranks HIGH on the Human Development Index. The revenues from diamonds have been very well utilised to develop the country, making Botswana one of the best governed and least corrupt countries in the world, certainly better governed than two thirds of European countries.

@@yohighness Thanks for the information and we certainly wish the people of Botswana every possible continuing success.
However with a current unemployment rate of over 25% and the 10th worst Gini coefficient in the world plus a birth rate currently running at more than 3 times the death rate there may be problems ahead.
Unfortunately I have never had the good fortune to visit the country myself but acquaintances who have done so as tourists were full of praise for the local organizations - certainly in comparison to South Africa.
We can only hope that the general standards of management remain high in Botswana.
