So the monkey doll and the cat clock are both sentient beings. They're both trying to lead you to the void so you can open a pathway between the world and the void.
Monogon and Gammon are two companies that are experimenting on ways to access the void using VR headsets.
In the beginning of the game, the third item you go to sort blows up in your hand. That item was called Gammon. If you look around the game, you'll see other things with the Gammon name on it.
In the first live action cut scene you see your character inserting a USB flash drive into the Monogon server. That flash drive contains the virus that kicks everyone else out of MythOS. If you look closely you'll see the word Gammon written on the flash drive.
You uploaded the virus, that's why you're the only person in MythOS.
Towards the end of the game, the woman who keeps talking to you over the monitors finds the USB flash drive and realizes that you uploaded the virus to MythOS. You can see the disappointment in her expression.
I think that your character is a mole that works for Gammon and you got a job at Monogon so you could steal their info about the void and then access it.
At the end of the story, when you jump into the void, your consciousness is uploaded into the void. You can see that this is true when the clean up men kill your physical body but you remain active in MythOS.
The story for this game is very deep but if you dont look for the clues, you wont understand what's happening.

You need to check out Duck Season for PCVR, it is the prequel to Boneworks
Exactly. Except that I think Arthur also works for Sabrelake as well as Gammon, because the hard case that he brings his VR headset in is a Sabrelake case, and the camera unnaturally focuses on the Sabrelake logo on it.
Also, the gammon item at the start was the USB, you can take a closer look at it if you force grab it for just a second and let go, so that it lands on the table in front of you. I see Arthur taking it and it disappearing in his hand as him activating the program on it, since he only plugged it in in real life, he still needs to execute the code. As soon as that happened, everyone besides him was booted out of MythOS.
Also, I think the floating void creatures are characters and entities like Arthur, who were either real people, or emergent sentient code like 9 or the monkey, who have also been trapped in the void. So they've lost their original forms because they've spent a long time outside of their own system.
This is all amazing. I love the lore behind all of this and all of you for helping me sort through it! Great information here.
I'll have to do some playthroughs of Duck Season in the near future. I played it briefly before this channel existed, but now I need to deep dive it.

The scary part of this is that there are real companies trying to do exactly what we speak about here. Trying to upload our consciousness to another form or reality. The writing on the walls at the start of the game, a kind of conversation talking about what would happen to us if we died in different places that foreshadows the ending. They read:
"If you die in MythOS you come back"
"If you die in the voidway, do you die in real life?"
"Dying in MythOS just resurrects you over and over. We had to code resurrection for Myth but that doesn't connect to the void..."
"Our minds are directly connected to the void. Boneworks backend is the ONLY thing preventing true death... What if immortality is possible."
"If you die in real life, do you die in the void?"
"Theoretically, if we could somehow stop the system clock we could disconnect the resurrection field outside MythOS chambers. We could resurrect in the void."
"If I disconnect the servers, I could probably buy a couple hours..."
"The voidway could allow for immortality. If the Monogon heads knew even remotely how valuable this is..."
"Even with Boneworks access, getting out of MythOS might be hard. Let's go find out..."
And then that's when the game really starts.
Monogon was also suspicious of Arthur before the start of the game. An internal audit accountability log you can find reads:
"2:10pm - Monogon employee Arthur ford was seen eating lunch in the anomalous object disposal breakroom."
"2:44pm - While still on lunch break, employee began checking time on a variety of devices."
"Company audit recommendation: Employee Arthur ford seems to be interested in communicating with non monogon employees - Double monitoring requested."
Note how this is right before 3:14 - the time the system clock / clock tower is stuck at, which means that this report was made right before the game started.
Awesome catalog of data here! Really cool stuff that I'm sure many people just glossed over.
I definitely understand that his conciousness is alive due to Boneworks/Void but what's the end game for Arthur? That's what I'm curious about.
@@AWolfinVR It seems that Arthur had accepted a suicide mission knowingly. He was a mole working for Sabrelake and Gammon, who were both working together to take down Monogon before a popular product - MythOS - was released. This is because it may have put the other companies out of business, since MythOS is meant to be used 24/7. It would be impossible to do what Arthur did and escape alive, so he planned to complete his mission for Gammon and Sabrelake, and then get to the void before his real life body was found. He also had tricked some of co-workers into helping him, without them knowing he was actually a mole, by offering them the chance to also become immortal with him (which they thought was the only goal of this). That's why Alora B. - an encryption specialist, (the lady who talks to you sometimes) was angry at you and telling you to make sure you "leave a way in" and saying "you can't keep this all for yourself". She's talking about leaving a way into the void. And she realised (I can't remember at what point) that you didn't care that you were going to get found by security, and weren't planning on escaping.

I came home every day ready to watch a boneworks video that you posted and now it’s over,although it makes me sad but great series!
This was a really fun one to play through. Will dive in more with the Sandbox and Arena, but not much more story to get out of it. I'll eventually get to Duck Season, an older game but one in the same universe. More story to unpack with that one!
Regarding the ending: as much as I could gather the guy didnt really die because he was in the voidway and is immortal now. Thats why the woman said "unless you don't care if they find you after the reset". Because he doesnt, because he is immortal now.
Agreed. Even if you die in real life, you don't die in the void.
Not entirely sure what the plan is from there, but his consciousness is not dead.

It will probably take me around 20 hours to beat this because I tend to explore every nook and cranny in these type of games

Did you complete it? They say it's around 25hrs for completionists.
@@missdire If you want to fully complete the game, like get all the ammo and unlock all the developer weapons, it could easily take well over 30 hours. Without a guide I had to replay the entire game several times through to find the ammo to buy everything.
the barrel you broke while fighting the king had a knife in it lol
I did the castle climb how you did, but then I realized that you can grab stones *after* I got up. I grabbed the scaffolding, moved it, stacked some boxes and got to the yellow pipe. A 10 minute puzzle took me an hour.
Man I can't believe Stress Level Zero hit everybody with that mgs3 ladder sequence.

I love the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy reference with the character being named "Arthur Ford". Great playthrough, Wolf. Loved every minute of it. Wish I had a Vive. Would love to see and experience that game world. Unfortunately, those headset and controllers, especially with eye tracking, are just way too expensive right now.
Just beat the game myself and I love watching you play through. I find it funny how long your fight with the king took though. I smashed him with 2 vases and then one punch to the jaw killed him for me
Just played boneworks blind, my king fight took just as long as the one on the video, but I didn’t use any vases. Interesting.
And the music when you entered the castle it was just...damn,even though the fight was you just grabbing vases and other stuff and then a beatdown

Ok, am I the only one who is wondering who was the guy that threw the AR on the ground before the garage door closed? No one should have been on except for Arthur, but there was a non-NPC person active. Was he Arthur post void or was he someone else? And pls with the melon storyline, not only is that a wierd thing but in mythOS there were things about the overthrowing of mythOS and things talking about wanting out or to stop the mersion or emersion/immersion. Pretty sure that shouldn't be in a game or a vr hub/world owned and controlled by the company. But meh.

There is some great information on all the lore out there, but I do wish they had included some more direct story in the game. The melon mystery must be solved!

Gammon is the people that makes duck season if you look if you have played duck season and pick io the cartridge and flip it over it says gammon and as you see in the beginning he uses a gammon plug to disrupt monogons systems

the storyline isn't messed up at all. you just need to understand what it's about and then it all makes sense, and the subtle details in the game that connects to the story adds to it as well

It’s been a while
So the melons... What were they about? I get that they give null-bodies sentience, but... Were the null-bodies attacking you for nutrition so they could become stronger (saw something about lack of blood particles which I'm guessing is the orange stuff inside them), but when they had the melons they were less aggressive because they were already full? Did they feel more human, is that why when you get stuck in the void there are clones of you, because they've absorbed your physical life? Or, even worse, by getting to the void did you overwrite their sentience and their code got reworked to mimic yours, thus losing their individuality? Or were they obsessed with melons because the giant ball thing above the void pyramid was shaped like a melon? Were they trying to grow a giant melon in order to limit access to the void? It seems kind of plausible since the game mentions broken melons as "inoperable geometry." It's weird though, most of the graffiti seems to be written by the null-bodies who are pretty anti-void. They are also anti ultra mersion which is the official drink of MythOS.
He may be blind cause i notice that barrel broke and a knife dropped....

The melons give you nutrition IRL so you can stay in VR for longer. I think the nullmen were getting stronger by eating the melons and drinking the melon belly. You can see in the sewer level that the nullmen are turning yellow/green from eating all the melon.
