  • While doing my enhancement procedure to this mixer, I realized the best thing to do for the isolator section was to get rid of it all together.
    Turned out to be really easy, and anyone can do it.
    Getting rid of the isolator section makes channels 1 and 3 sound way better even without the rest of the enhancement procedure that I do. And... it may help with the well known cross talk problems that some have talked about regarding this mixer.
    This is for the regular and rotary version of the PCV-275
    I also talk about isolator circuits in dj mixers and why spending the extra money on a dj mixer with an analog isolator may not be the best sonic choice.

    Big thanks for this video. I am no expert, but I could do this after watching the video a couple of times. Makes a huge difference in sound. Night and day.

    After watching your video a few months back, after changing cartridge needles to fox a sound problem I finally got around to bypassing the isolators and WOW! I can actually hear all elements in my records now!
    And so easy to do.
    Much appreciated man 😎

    Enormously big thanks, dude! I did the “upgrade” and the mixer sounds so perfect after that, and the vibration in power supply is gone, it was driving me insane. I was almost going to buy a new one, this video saved me a lot of $!
    P.S. I also disconnected the mic section, cause there’s no way to mute it completely, and I don’t need it actually.

    Would love to see the plans on how to make that isolator board into standalone!

    • @Danieldialatone

      The customer I did it this mixer for eventually did successfully put that isolator into an enclosure, but that was a private project on his part, I don't know the particulars of what he did.

      @@mattcward Probably won't happen. Not based on preference, but on time, lack of connection I have with that guy (not really thinking he would even want to spend time doing that anyway).
      I can say that it was an easy thing for him to figure out. If you take yours out, show the schematic to a friend who works on this stuff too, would be pretty easy.
      And besides, I'm moving into the guitar pedal world of things since the semiconductor shortage has affected the high end parts that I use for DJ mixer upgrades, I need to pivot to something else.

      The Bozak mixer that I got to hear and actually do some repairs on required virtually no upgrading.
      Thanks man about UREI comment. Yeah it sounds insane after my upgrades.

    off topic, but my pcv-275 started to turn off by itself after some time. A quick turn of and turn on would bring it back to life. Now it just died and wont come back alive...Guess should have recapped the psu long time ago.. Do you have a video on that? Or do you think it's a good idea? Maybe just replace the power supply entirely?

    • @Danieldialatone
      @Danieldialatone  Рік тому

      Unfortunately I don't remember that mixer well enough to recall what power supply is in it. To recap it, just make sure you use the same capacitance and voltage ratings, and you'll want to get yourself a set of calipers so that you can measure to make sure that the ones you purchase will fit and have the same lead spacing and all that stuff. Really, recapping a power supply pretty ground-level stuff.
      Now if this is a switch mode power supply then we'll look at the capacitor to see if any of them are "doming" and or leaking.
      Part of me wants to say though that this thing had a linear power supply...
      And maybe before doing any of that stuff make sure to deoxidize all the harness connections. You could have just very oxidized power connection... I would check that first.
      If this thing has a linear power supply and your wiring harness connections are nice and clean and it still won't power on I'm not sure if this is a capacitor issue.
      Linear power supplies will generally at least keep working even if the capacitors are shit.
      Switch mode power supplies however are heavily reliant on capacitors being in good shape.
      Of course it is very important to have good working capacitors on linear power supplies for keeping out AC ripple, but AC ripple rarely makes a non digital device turn off.

      @@Danieldialatone thanks for your reply, yeh, its most def linear psu (big transformer), caps visually look good, rest is like new as well. Really at a loss here. Time to start poking around with the multimeter i guess...dont really fancy that 240v though =/

    Good afternoon, Daniel, my name is Jose from Argentina. Could you suggest me some analog mixer with high sound quality to use with vinyl? Currently I have a Numark DM1820x and I would like something better.

    • @Danieldialatone
      @Danieldialatone  2 роки тому

      That is a mid-level dj mixer, and most mixers within that range are going to sound pretty close to it. Its hard to say what you should get not knowing how much you are willing and able to spend. How many channels to you normally use?

  • @tanocasco3373
    @tanocasco3373 2 роки тому

    In general, I use two channels in phono for the turntables, that's why I was doing the vestax pmc 270, which here on youtube seems to sound good and I was also doing the pmc 55 and the xone 42 and I'm looking for a reference which one sounds better (for aesthetics I like it) more the vestax but well I want something that has sound quality)

    • @Danieldialatone
      @Danieldialatone  2 роки тому +1

      I am familiar with the Xone stuff... its not that much better. I looks nicer, but the circuitry in the Vestax stuff I would say is actually the same as if not better than most Xone stuff.

    Is this mixer good for scratching?

    • @Danieldialatone
      @Danieldialatone  2 роки тому +1

      I have no idea. I am not a DJ. I'm just excellent at working on the equipment.
      Another comment someone left on this video is that they don't like the curve of the crossfader so perhaps it's not the best? I have a feeling that those who like scratching like a very tweakable curve.
