Love this idea. My wife and I do this with movies - we each throw 26 movie names into a jar, and each week we draw one and watch it, no questions asked. Really encourages you to commit!
What a wonderful and adorable idea that I am stealing straight away! I am limited on artistic talent so bought a cute set of mini holiday cards with envelopes ($6) and will just write the name of the games inside. The cards all have an ornament design on them so we'll hang the opened cards on our mantle when we finish the game. ❤🎄❤
My other half made me a board game advent a few years ago and now we do it every year. We use categories instead of actual games. So play a 2 player only game, play a dice game, play an engine builder, play a shelf of shame(opportunity) etc. If we know we are going away we will pick a smaller game that meats the category. This also gives us a bit of flexibility to what we play, if it's been a long day we might pick a quick game in that category, or if it's a weekend we can play a longer one. Also lets us pick games we wouldn't usually play.
I love this idea. You def count up. Dec 1 is number 1 and so on. Me and my wife will be attending Pax too as the tail end of our honeymoon. Hopefully we run into you guys during the con to say hi! And because I know Jeff is bills fan like me, Go Bills!
What a fun idea! I love these kind of activities where it's a surprise for both of you but you both weighed in on what each selection is. :) Great list of games, can't wait to see how it plays out! Starting from 1 to go from Day 1 to Day 24 has my vote! The one time a count-up feels like a countdown when it's the holiday season!
Start counting at 1, imho. The printouts look sharp! What a great idea! (Wish I were going to PAX now. I went once before on my own and had a so-so time. I think it's wonderful that you'll have a dedicated room where people can meet up. Enjoy the con!)
Sounds great. I will suggest this to my Partner. Probably i will do "smaller Games" for workdays and "bigger Games" for the Weekend days but still Draw.
I was in Indigo the other day and saw McSweeney's Advent Calendar (basically mini books for each day). It got me thinking that a publisher of tiny games like Button Shy needs to release an advent calendar. Even if it only included 2 or 3 full size wallets and the rest were 9 card or less micro games, I would want it so much. Depending on the game, the following days could also be mini expansions of 1 or 2 cards for the previous day's game.
Hey, it's Kelly from the con! I hope Velvet Taco was just as good as last time. I really wish I was going to Pax because I would have loved to play with fellow subscribers. That is such a great idea to help people meet others who probably enjoy similar games, but who also have similar values to you guys. It always seems to be a mixed bag when you sit down with someone new because they might like the same type of games as you, but you don't really get along outside of that.
What a fun idea and a great way to get some games back to the table. Digging the festive music choices for the background too. When I was young I always remember advent calendars counting down to one, signifying the number of sleeps until Christmas. Mostly they seem to count up now, which makes sense, but I have enough regular calendars that count up, KAY!
Depends on how you want to look at it. You could use it as a countdown and start at 24 or you could use it like a calendar and start at 1. Excited to see what you open every day!
See if you can get in on a late pledge for Tomten: The Tactical Game of Christmas Gnomes. It is supposed to deliver by Christmas. Can hardly wait for my copy to arrive because the art is beyond cute!
Such a great idea. Wish I had a partner that enjoys board games as much as I do. She gets way too bored playing them. But yea we always count up because the #1 is supposed to be December 1st and so on.
You start at 1 and go to 24 that’s the logical way to do that as Mr Spock would say. 😂 plus all the calendars I have had given to me do it that way even ones not bought in the USA. 🇺🇸 😮
Was this another one from the Kate list of ideas? Only because she did this almost exact thing for me last year just instead of the exact game it was a suggestion like pick a Xmas game or worker placement game etc… honestly it was my favourite present from her last year just spending the time and having fun together
Gotta follow the day schedule 1 -> 24! Such a great idea

Gotta start at 1. Traditional advent calendars have BIG DOORS for day 24... Christmas Eve.

I have never stolen an idea as fast as this one! Thank you!
My hanging advent calendar starts at 1. I love this idea.

Great games!

You have to start at 1. That's the only way. Then it correlates with the dates, too.
Love it!
Man, those games are good! Love it!!
I loveeee this idea, so fun and creative

Love the channel :) You gotta count up, that's what makes it a calendar. Such a fun idea!
That seems to be what everyone is saying!! ha 😂

OMG, White Castle Matcha, you gotta! Give me that and Jokkmokk, and I'm good.

😊
This is such a fun idea! I might have to make one! 😊🎄
Do it!!
Countdown 24 to 1. Doubles as a Countdown. Enjoy PAX!!

I ALWAYS used to down the countdown but everyone else says to count up! ha
Such a great idea.
You count up. The day of the month is the day you open in a normal advent.
Thank seems to be what I'm hearing! I shall count UP!
Depends on how you want to look at it. You could use it as a countdown and start at 24 or you could use it like a calendar and start at 1. Excited to see what you open every day!
I'm excited to see too! haha
That is such a great idea! I will make one too hahaha 😂 love your ideas!
YAY!!

Love this idea, I am definitely going to do this with my son! Thank you for sharing this idea!
That's awesome!! Have fun! :)
Being that it's a "calendar," and they are generally laid out as a calendar, I woukd start at one and count up.
I've always gone from one up to 24.
This is a neat idea!
Seems like the consensus is 1-24!

I saw Santa’s Workshop in there. I picked that up the other day. Looking forward to playing it!
1 to 24 :) your mat is so cut with the frog !
1-24 it is!!
My husband and I did this last year. We didn’t make cards just picked a game and played.
Awesome!

Oh I’ll find you!
@@FostertheMeeple That sounds like a threat! lol
@@MarkusKraus to be determined
I’m going to do this!
You open 1-24/25. 1 is opened on Dec. 1., which is why it's called a calendar 😊
1-24 it is!

There is a very good chance it was on her list but I didn’t grab it from there! It’s a great idea though!
Does anyone know what song was playing as Jamie was cutting?
Start at 1 on Dec 1st!!!
