If it were manual with a clutch (lower-case C) pedal, Ujwal Thakur, then if shifting never needed it it would obviously be just for starting and stopping. But this type of transmission is automatic.
"Like normal stick[-]shift cars," SimpleSumm3r? What supposed "other stick-shift cars" (stick-shift consumer vehicles in general) are you supposedly comparing against, since this vehicle is an automatic?
With the automatic transmission from years 2007 through 2015 G35/G37 sedan or coupe and the renamed Q40 sedan, when you move the gear selector to the left "DS mode"you do not have to shift the selector plus/minus or sport package with the paddle shifters. Just simply floor the gas pedal with gear selector to the left. DS mode is Dynamic Sport mode. The transmission will still change gears in a rev- match high performance auto sport mode. Normal drive mode : move selector back over to the right.
Gregory Jones yes you are correct... that's if you leave it in the DS mode... the revs will stay higher and the engine feels more responsive.... but from that mode if you shift then you activate the shifting mode.... I had fun with my G but no longer have it since it was rear traction and sucks in snow...
Most rear drive vehicles have difficulty or no traction in the snow. However good all season / good snow tires will or help you get through or tire chains or tire straps. Also you can rent an AWD or 4wheel drive vehicle just before the expected forecast per day, per week or per month during the winter snow months and keep and rest your RWD until Spring. I had a co-worker trade a practically new Mercedes Benz C350 RWD 8,000 off a loaded C-class sedan to include navigation after five months in his possession. I told him you could have rented a day before or within that day based on available or reserve an AWD type vehicle for the snow forcast. He rolled over a lot of negative equity at the same MB dealership for a used front wheel drive Lexus ES. WoW'
Mr. G. Jones: The opposite is also true - you don't have to move the shifter to DS to use the paddles. Just use them. Trans will stay in manual mode temporarily - until ground levels out/1 min(+/-) without shifting/ come to a stop, etc. This is great for quick brake assist, or passing. I owned a G35S from 2003-2007, and a G37S from 2007 to 2018, traded on Camaro SS. Same works for Camaro, but you MUST shift if you pull shifter to right - like G35... ALSO: Not sure if G37 does this, but Camaro does - if you hold left paddle (or hold shifter in downshift pos) for about 2 secs, it will downshift to the lowest gear it can tolerate at the speed you're going...
I wish you would've covered downshifting a little more. IMO the main advantage of good paddles is being to downshift crisply during heavy braking in corners so you're already in the right gear when you get back on the gas. Everyone is so focused on the upshifts.

There's definitely a delay shifting with the paddles vs shifting with the stick in the G37. I use the paddles occasionally, but it's annoying having the car shift 1000 rpm later.
@GoFightNguyen00: I almost never use the paddles or shifter to up-shift. I like the way the computer does up-shifts - if foot's in it enough, shifts at red line, loses 800-1100 RPM per shift. I do keep my left hand on the paddle, for pre-turn engine braking and it sets up for fast corner exit. Hint: if there's a delay, shift earlier - but keep gas pedal pressure on.
I can drive a stick, no problem; however, I love paddle shift "manu-matic" cars for some reason. In fact I'll have my 7 speed paddle shift/auto G37S by Friday hopefully :D If you want to play racecar, you can, or if you just want to relax and not have to shift, that's also an option. brother you shift with same concept like a manual car.... when the revs are going high and is time to shift... only difference here is that you are more on control and can do it manually.... no need for clutch or need to do it since you can go back to automatic mode any time
You shift one gear down as long as you're not highly revved already. It doesn't matter what gear you're in to go fast. Your car does have a power band though which is the range of speed in which the car has the best performance. Down shift in different speed ranges to see what area is your power band. It should be between 30 and 70 mph.
When your driving and you want to put it in neutral do you hold down both shifters or at least 1 to put it in neutral? Is that even possible? Also paddle transmissions have 3 modes - auto, paddle, and gear manual?
ponycar24fan It is a little hard giving you so many details in a few words... I will do another video explaining everything in detail and showing how to shift.... This is not the same as driving with a clutch ... is similar with the concept that you shift up or down when you need to, but there is no need to put the car in neutral... ever... you can switch at any time back to automatic while driving
There is no clutch..... you don't have to do nothing when you come to a stop... the car by default starts again from gear 1 even if you didn't shift down yourself after breaking
***** No *manual* clutch, anyway. But automatic-based transmissions like this one (either planetary or DC) *do* have clutches (just that they're automatic ones). This *is* automatic--or semiautomatic.
MaxOnTrack: It IS an automatic. The only thing is that the paddles, and the ratchet (DS) in the console make it easier to manually shift it. I had always wanted something like this. From the 3AT in my 1967 4-4-2 to my 1980s Camaros, to 1990s Eclipses, they were hard to manually shift without going more than 1 gear or ending up in neutral. Sometime around 1970, GM offered a "His-n-Hurst" dual gate shifter. It had one gate that was like a normal auto - down to D (like G35-37 and Camaro) then you pushed it to the right into a jagged path or gate which made it easier to shift one gear at a time. Now, they've added a ratchet gate +/- and returns to center. These are pretty wide spread nowadays (except Ford!?!) Soon after, they added paddles, thinking it is safer keeping both hands on the wheel - especially for spirited driving, like shifting manually...
It will automatically go to first when you come to a complete stop or near a complete stop, and no it does not automatically downshift when slowing down that is up to the driver
@@Rogersensei93 My G37 - and my Camaro, for that matter - would down shift automatically when speed goes down. If not, it would be like braking down to 10MPH and leaving a manual in 5th. If you moved foot from brake to gas and started accelerating again, engine would lug in 5th.
ayee I got a question... In my 2012 Mitsubishi Lancer GTS, it has paddle shifters. & I'm only 16, (I know how to drive stick, but not daily driven) & how do I use the paddle shifter? I know how to activate it by going to D (Drive) and push it to the right. It says 1 (as in 1st gear) in my speedometer area. Do I need to up-shift using the paddle, or I just drive (as in just go) and shift using the paddle when I need to? & also, will it downshift by itself when I'm stopping/slowing down? & do I need to go on a COMPLETE stop to change back into regular D (drive mode). thank you.
you will shift as normal like if using a stick shift car... when the revs are passing 3k or 3500 or when you think is needed then shift up / same to down shift when needed... you can switch to D mode at any time ... no need to stop
***** I often have to downshift or out it in drive.... Because if youre in 6 the gear at 60mph. There's no acceleration left to get to 75 quickly if you want to pass someone.
@@Moshealthtips Don't know how many gears you have, but most cars don't have pickup in top gear because it's overdrive, to save gas. Mustangs never hit top speed in top gear. Shelby GT500 will hit 200 MPH, in 5th not 6th (it also runs out of gas in 8 mins at that speed)
what happens if you try to start the car from a complete stop in a higher gear? will it let you? will it downshift automatically for you? like say you going 60mph in 6th gear on the highway and there is traffic and you slow down by hitting the brake and not downshifting to like 20mph, will it put you in the appropriate gear or will you still be in 6th?
@InfernoRed54 as you slow down, it will downshift, just like in automatic mode. Manual mode (DS & +/-) won't upshift by itself. If you stop for a moment, like a stop sign, it will start in 3rd. BTW, it never downshifts to 2nd by itself - in either mode.
this is kinda cool what i dont like about automatics is that you accelerate then it goos Bruuuuum and then it shifts but at a point it gets like stuck like buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuum and then it shifts it kinda sounds ugly
olivercromwell serra no there is no half clutch ... there is no clutch on this ... and the automatic transmissions that have a clutch they work on the background .. you dont need to press anything... just paddles
Question: Will the trans upshift quicker with the paddles that using the shifter? I'm considering installing them on my Journey coupe but I've noticed there's a big one second lag after upshifting with the shifter before the trans does it.
yes.... you don't have to stop the car... if you have somebody giving you the race look while driving yeah switch rite away to sport mode and car gets way more response
Two questions: 1. Does it hold the gears in manual mode when you hit the limiter or does it upshift automatically? 2. Does it auto rev match when you downshift manually (while braking/accelerating)? Thanks
korguenkomodo A lot cars with an AT do shift up automatically when you hit the rev limiter and down at very low rpm in order not to stall the engine. Even in manual mode with paddle shifters. That's why I asked. Good to know this one doesn't.
why bmw, lexus and whats not have paddles rotate with the wheel but not on infinity? i would probably want to shift in the long turns too not just when driving straight!
Alexander Lvov: I've owned both. My new Camaro has the paddles that rotate with the wheel, while Infiniti's are attached to the column. I did once hit the wrong paddle mid-turn, in Camaro - never happened to me in Infiniti.
Yea i did notice the delay of shifting when using the paddle shifters on a few videos alrdy, he hits the paddle and it is about a half second to one second delay before you see the rpms go down from the shift. Is this normal on these cars?
Guys ... it may be the impression from watching the video, but paddles shift faster than a clutch... its right away... you don't need to remove your foot from gas while shifting
maxxx 44 you can step on breaks normal or down shift... since there is no clutch it wont affect anything if you down shift , step on breaks or even switch at any time back to normal driving mode
Yo Ik this comment was 4 years ago but you can shift with paddles while in the normal driving mode, it will give you about 10 seconds in sport mode automatically and then switch back to automated shifting
Thanks for the reply, I also noticed alot of people complaining about the lag in the gas pedal. Sorry I don't want to be picky but I'm just asking questions because I plan on getting a 2010 Infiniti g37x in spring. So people say that when driving iin regular D there is alot of lag when hitting the gas pedal. Ssy u were going around 40mph then suddenly brake and hit the gas again, it would take a good second or two for the throttle to respond. I'm not sure if it's only some people getting this or its normal. Have u noticed anything like this? Thanks
Henry Huang agree. There is a lag. There is a TSB that has slightly improved it. You can get an aftermarket tuner "ECUtek or Uprev" and they can make the throttle more responsive. But the 7AT is kinda so so in shift response and knowing what gear to be in. It's livable and you get used to it, but slightly annoying. at least for me.
+Vlibyrr that is false. Idk where he got that info from, but the redline/rev limit should be about 7500rpms. It has the same vq37hr motor as the 370z. That would be such a horrible redline if it were at 4000rpm. Lowest revving engine ever.
Quick tip if you downshift while braking it acts as an engine brake, allowing you to slow down faster. No, it won't damage your transmission.
thanks for the tip
thank you sir
No need to release the gas pedal for everybody wondering... just shift while you have your foot on the gas... shifts very quick

hey bro thanks for the video! Any comments on the stick shift of G37?
They work great and the transmission shifts super fast with almost no delay.... great for race track or when racing somebody..
How do I go faster shift up or down and what gear make the car fast
"Please provide sample"
Hahahah this guy has a DUI breathalyzer interlock unit
DJ Psycho so thats what the beeping was, haha i knew someone that had one
Omfg I’ve got this same infiniti and just installed paddles and have a breathalyzer too lmao
is it the same with a 2016 mustang?
+Julian Torres what do you mean? the system or how it works?
Is there still a clutch in the car? i.e. when coming to a stop or pulling away is clutch needed? Or is it more like a automatic?
There is no clutch..... you don't have to do nothing when you come to a stop... the car by default starts again from gear 1 even if you didn't shift down yourself after breaking
*****
No *manual* clutch, anyway.
When you need to slow down or come to a stop will it automatically down shirt for you if you don't do it yourself?
It will automatically go to first when you come to a complete stop or near a complete stop, and no it does not automatically downshift when slowing down that is up to the driver
+RogerTHFC mine actualy does downshift by itself, in manual when i come to a stop it goes for ex, 4-3-2 then it goes on 1.
@@Rogersensei93 My G37 - and my Camaro, for that matter - would down shift automatically when speed goes down. If not, it would be like braking down to 10MPH and leaving a manual in 5th. If you moved foot from brake to gas and started accelerating again, engine would lug in 5th.
So it means no need to step the damn clutch when changing gears using paddle shifters?
correct
ayee I got a question... & do I need to go on a COMPLETE stop to change back into regular D (drive mode). thank you.
*Push it to the left, not right. Sorry.
you will shift as normal like if using a stick shift car... when the revs are passing 3k or 3500 or when you think is needed then shift up / same to down shift when needed... you can switch to D mode at any time ... no need to stop
***** will it downshift by it-self when I'm pressing the brake/slowing down? Or I need to downshift my-self.
you don't need to press the breaks ...or move your foot from throttle that's the beauty of paddles..... since there's no clutch..
*****
...no *manual* clutch, at least.
why do you take your hands off the wheel after you shift(2:34 and 3:17)?
Because he can you stupid fuck!
i find that when you get into 6th gear on the hughway u lose power. you cant accelarate as fast because youre already in top gear
You can click or press on the paddle fast to down shift more than one gear, but yeah it will not be as fast as manual
***** no when you come to a complete stop and you dont change it .. it will start from 1st
@InfernoRed54 as you slow down, it will downshift, just like in automatic mode. Manual mode (DS & +/-) won't upshift by itself. If you stop for a moment, like a stop sign, it will start in 3rd. BTW, it never downshifts to 2nd by itself - in either mode.
this is kinda cool what i dont like about automatics is that you accelerate then it goos Bruuuuum and then it shifts but at a point it gets like stuck like buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuum and then it shifts it kinda sounds ugly
gta4darksector Yeah kind of but you can also master that and make it more natural....
So if i want to do a half clutch just to you know, rev, just hold the paddle up then revs before releasing?
olivercromwell serra no there is no half clutch ... there is no clutch on this ... and the automatic transmissions that have a clutch they work on the background .. you dont need to press anything... just paddles
But have you tried holding the paddle up then revs before releasing? I think if you do that the gear wont bite yet right? Thanks.
Question: Will the trans upshift quicker with the paddles that using the shifter? I'm considering installing them on my Journey coupe but I've noticed there's a big one second lag after upshifting with the shifter before the trans does it.
I no longer have this car but the experience is probably closer to a regular stick shift if is a car that has a dual clutch
just wanna ask, does it damage the car when you shift from DS mode to D mode?
Not at all....!!!!! you can do it as many times as you want to and while driving..
thanks for the reply. And one more last question, is it okay to shift from D to DS while driving?
yes.... you don't have to stop the car... if you have somebody giving you the race look while driving yeah switch rite away to sport mode and car gets way more response
Joshua Koh seriously ?
nothing affects the car... you can switch anytime from d to s back and forth and while driving
Two questions:
1. Does it hold the gears in manual mode when you hit the limiter or does it upshift automatically?
2. Does it auto rev match when you downshift manually (while braking/accelerating)?
Thanks
when you put the car in sport mode... it doesnt do anything automatically.... otherwise why would it have paddles.... you need to shift
korguenkomodo A lot cars with an AT do shift up automatically when you hit the rev limiter and down at very low rpm in order not to stall the engine. Even in manual mode with paddle shifters. That's why I asked. Good to know this one doesn't.
So what will happen if i shift like a manual vehicle let foot off gas shift and hit gas again will the transmission get messed up ?
nothing happens... you can do that, is just more time between switching gear and hitting the gas back..
@@korguenkomodo and it loses revs. The idea is to have revs drop 1000 RPM or less between shifts - same as a manual...
I love this car man 😍😍😭😭😭
thanks man
Do you have to come to a complete stop when changing from automatic to the paddle shifters? Or can you put it back in automatic while driving?
+LanceTV
No stop.. you can do it while driving
Do you have to let go of the gas when paddle shifting??? Or do you just keep holding the gas while driving shifting up and down?
no, just keep your foot on the floor this is still an automatic.
it only shifts as fast as possible when floored. when not floored it shifts less hard to help it last longer.
+Jabba12000 0 great feedback friend... what do you drive?
*****
G37 sport coupe
Is there a specific rpm that you need to shift on?
alti flag it is the same concept friend as driving stick shift... when the revs are high and you know you need to shift you do it
why bmw, lexus and whats not have paddles rotate with the wheel but not on infinity? i would probably want to shift in the long turns too not just when driving straight!
Alexander Lvov yes i agree with you... they should all make them part of the steering
Alexander Lvov: I've owned both. My new Camaro has the paddles that rotate with the wheel, while Infiniti's are attached to the column. I did once hit the wrong paddle mid-turn, in Camaro - never happened to me in Infiniti.
I see the symbols in the stick. Does that mean you can also upshift/downshift using the stick instead of the paddle shifters?
+Ashley Reinhardt
that is correct
***** Thanks for the answer!
I guess dual clutch is a superior transmission. Shifts so fast with out even noticing it.
Yes now this car doesn't have a dual clutch..
***** I know. My car does thats why i commented.
I need help on this......so the g37 requires paddle shift? or can you just drive automatic without paddle shifters
no .. you dont have to... this is optional
Mexican from south park lol
Yea i did notice the delay of shifting when using the paddle shifters on a few videos alrdy, he hits the paddle and it is about a half second to one second delay before you see the rpms go down from the shift. Is this normal on these cars?
Guys ... it may be the impression from watching the video, but paddles shift faster than a clutch... its right away... you don't need to remove your foot from gas while shifting
*****
...faster than a *manual* clutch.
p128sniper the shifter in the console shifts faster - not as much of an electronic coupling I guess.
My g37x 2013 shifter vibrate sometime while breaking you know why ????
I no longer have this car ..I don't know
Gracias👍
Saludos cordiales
Stupid question but would the sound of the exhaust change with using a shift knob than using paddle shifters?
hi nothing changes the sound... no matter how you drive... the sound your hear on the video is my catbacks exhaust...
Pschh, how can the type of shift handle possibly change the way the exhaust exits the pipe?
I know I’m late but that was the dumbest question ever
Great video. Thanks for teaching me
in case i have to slow down really quick to avoid an accident, what do i do ?
maxxx 44 you can step on breaks normal or down shift... since there is no clutch it wont affect anything if you down shift , step on breaks or even switch at any time back to normal driving mode
@@korguenkomodo thanks man for answering everybody's questions.
where did you buy your paddle shifters at?
walmart
does that awd model have paddles
I don't know for sure... but if you get the sport package it does regardless of awd or not
when you shift do you have to take your foot off the gas?
+Flaw
Not at all.... thats why its faster than a clutch
Hello, will it be harmful for the car if you shift from mannual mode to automatic mode while driving?
No
do i have to put it in ds mode? what if i just leave it in d mode and use paddle shifter to change gear?
DS mode....
Thanks
not at all... this is my second infiniti; I had a g35 and then got the g37.. great cars and super fast... I traded it because I needed awd
I have a 7AT and there is definitely a noticeable lag in throttle response.
for me the car drives just fine and I observe no delay in shifting .... plus is actually faster than shifting with a clutch
***** ...*manual* clutch, anyway. (Don't forget that automatic transmissions and semiautomatic ones have clutches too.)
I want to hear him say... See you soon boooyyy.... No disrespect you just have a man's energy it's all ggod playa
I have a question, if im on 5th gear Or any gear and i press the breaks will it shit down automatically?
LOL, Lilpandabear98, I never knew there were cars that would need to poop!

What was that beep at three minutes?

What year is this?
Every time I go to slowdown and down shift it jerks when I do it
That’s the same effect as if it was a regular stick shift car

U xav to take like dis den put like a dis den u put da gas
Wait a sec... Whats the redline on this car?
+Vlibyrr
about 4000 rpm
+Vlibyrr
i believe it can be adjusted
+korguenkomodo Oh, I was about to say, I had a Sentra and the redline was 6500 rpm lol.
+Vlibyrr that is false. Idk where he got that info from, but the redline/rev limit should be about 7500rpms. It has the same vq37hr motor as the 370z. That would be such a horrible redline if it were at 4000rpm. Lowest revving engine ever.
Vlibyrr: about 7500. Look at the tach in the video. 7500 is where lines/numbers turn red.
Wht year is this car ?
Dylan Perera This is a 2008 G37 sport
Thanks

Long live the stick shift! Keep watching!
