6:22 I swear this happened to me when I got back from college. So I came at around 11 at night so it was rlly dark. I entered the house and I think Pluto thought it was a robber or something. So I wanted to surprise my parents. I began to walk up the stairs and then right as I turned to walk up the second set of stairs, there he was. Pluto standing just like that, in all his might with his glowing eyes, the only thing visible about him. I fell back and almost hit my head. But then he realized it was me and then came running down to give me some kisses.
Well dogs are like that for example my dog does that too till I call her name and make sound that only I can make and she knows “ oh it’s you loser” 😂
I pictured Pluto standing over you when you fell back going "Were you scared? Tell me honestly." like Rex said to Woody in _Toy Story._ 😄

@@ratdraws9445 not really. Beside looking more scary there is no reason to cut their ears. It is not only painfull, it can make them hear not so good, and give them disatvantages when it comes to comunicating with other dogs.
And even the "if they are working dogs its safer for them" is not that good. Because why do other working dogs not get their ears cropped? Like german shepards and many Others?
@@sophiebell4758 Because Doberman's ears are stiffer than other dog's ears. Also, most German Shepherds have pointed ears.

always wanted a doberman, just never had the space / enough time to properly exercise one. they’re big, energetic dogs and need a lot of exercise and proper training. what breaks my heart the most is that they usually end up abandoned because people don’t want to invest time, energy and love into properly training them, and with such a big “scary” dog, it’s necessary. also the fact that chopping their ears is so common that so many people believe it’s natural to the breed is absolutely disgusting. it’s nothing but an aesthetic.
There are educational reasons I'll link a video

I totally concur ! I have a malamute and an looking into owning a doberman ,the amount of people I have encountered people who thought my dog was so oo cool and looks like a dire wolf, they want one !😒🙄Do you though ?, but don't want to invest time money or training is crazy!! , you can't own a dog like that without serious investment ,in your time energy and money on decent food, training, ect people need to really think before getting a pet , let alone a more intense one such as a malamute or doberman it's not fair on the animal otherwise ! Do your research know what you're getting yourself into ! Or you'll be miserable too !
And for the love of God don't do painful unnecessary surgery such as ear cropping without a medical or safeguarding the dog reason !!!
ear cropping is nesessary if you train them for personal protection, otherwise ears get damaged. but in other cases I agree with you

For all the people saying choping their ears and tail is wrong, I only can say you're totally right. I'm studying to work with dogs and our teacher told us, so... Yeah, that's just for the 'badass' look and bad for the dog. Keep their ears and tail as it came, don't chop them.
P.S: And I'm telling you this as a person who thinks this dogs look better with their ears modified, but if is bad for the dog, then fuck the looks.
I love Doberman's and it made me so sad to see all the cropped ears and tails :(
yeah, my mom's friend's dad wanted to take our pitweiler away to dock her ears and tail off to make her look cool. she's okay with me here lol nothing happened
How exactly is it bad for the dog? It doesn't even hurt them nor is it bad for their health
@@zenwue4205 They're born with ears are like that for a reason! The flap keeps dirt etc out. Imagine cutting that much cartilage if your ears were that big. It does hurt and the healing process takes a long time. As for the tail, it's part of their spine for crying out loud!!!
@@MamaLauren523 They do it only when they are young so it won't hurt and take less for the healing process. And even then if you are against ear cropping but fine with neuter/spay then you are a hypocrite because the health risk from it do not come close to ear cropping.
Dobermans are natural guard digs and protectors as they have been bred for years to do so, but it all comes down to who is training them and what they’re training them to do

For everyone in the comments saying things about ear docking/cropping, while I agree that in a lot of cases it's purely cosmetic, some people crop their dog's ears for very valid reasons. Especially with guard dogs, cropping their ears can serve two major purposes. One, their ears are sensitive and fragile, and if they're serving as a protection dog, it's best to keep their ears out of the way in case they need to do something to protect their owners. Two, ear docking makes them look much more intimidating. People are going to be naturally more intimidated by a dog with docked ears, than by one with big, floppy ones. And as long as the procedure is done by a trusted, licensed medical professional under general anesthesia, and the dog is being properly cared for afterwards, the dog will most likely not hurt nearly as much as they're made out to be. And also an additional point, an owner might live around other animals, out in the country or around other, more aggressive dogs, and do it as a means to protect the dog from potential injuries, especially ear nipping or them getting snagged on sharp objects. It's obviously questionable whether or not ear cropping is humane when it's purely for cosmetic purposes, but at the end of the day, that's just not your dog. If you don't want to crop your dog's ears, then just don't, but don't just jump to conclusions about other people's reasoning.
Agreed. I have Dobermanns who both have floppy ears, but they usually damage each others' ears even if it is just playing. Knowing that Dobies play rough, sometimes floppy ears do not really add up to the much more aggressive and dangerous aftereffects of having it stay like that, especially in an environment where damaging dog ears are utmost almost there everyday.
03:14 Holy crap

Before this video: dobermans are scary

I’m honestly neutral on docking/cropping because there are some benefits with docking/cropping but it’s only if your use of your dog to help you hunt or live in a area where the surroundings can fu*k up your dogs ears and tail but if it just for cosmetics that not right (if you have anything else to add just comment it civically)
Late but I’m also neutral. The Dobermen I have have both their ears cropped (not my choice) but they certainly don’t seem in pain all the time. Of course, it’s definitely wrong to do it solely for cosmetics. :)
Cropping is illegal where I live.
@@weg5856
No one asked
It actually doesn't bring any benefits to the dog's health, proven scientifically.
The only situations where owners should be allowed to crop ears is if the dog has special health problems. As for the tail it should be allowed only for police dogs (because the criminal could tug on the dog's tail).
I'm so glad tons of intelligent countries decided to put a law that forbid cropping.

I ❤these guys so much they’re such handsome dogs
Is this horrific ear mutilation thing common in America?
For some breeds it's seen as "standard" or "proper", but there are more and more dog owners today choosing to forgo the practice. Same with boxers, while both of mine already had docked/cut tails by the time I got them, both have the cutest floppy ears to this day :3
sadly, yes . as well as so many other breeds where their tails are docked & ears cut
Its a traditional look for dobermans and some other breeds. Usually you get it done when they are WAY younger so they naturally grow into it and its less painful. Idk why a lot of the full grown dogs in this vid have bandages on still as if they just got it.
Its common all over the world though in some countries its illegal.
Well.for dogs like min pins its for protection, their farm dogs and would enough get their ears bitten bye rats, then their dogo Argentina they hunt boars 🐗 and their ears enough get bitten off as well. No to docking their tail or cropping their ears. Otherwise awesome video
Actually docking tails can be a good thing. I had a friend who’s pitbull tail kept breaking and bleeding because she would smack it on medal poles and walls not to mention it hurt like hell when she smacked you with it left some marks for me.
I breed dobermans and have cropped dozens of ears. Dobermans are the only dog breed that medically need their ears cropped. Every other dog that gets their ears cropped is labeled as cosmetic except for dobes. You need to talk to and seek info from the people that crop the ears and breed these dogs because you animal rights activists are only getting ur info from online articles that are completely biased by those who have no knowledge about the breed whatsoever. Every dog is different and dobermans happen to have a certain type of tissue that becomes infected by the inner creases if left floppy. Floppy ears also produce ear infection from moisture because there is no air flow. Also fun fact: FLOPPY EARS ARE MAN MADE. Therefore they are technically not 'natural' ears for the canine anyway. Many dobes get their ears cropped for working purposes to prevent the floppiness and drooping while search and seizure training. It allows for better hearing. Not to mention dobes are used in the marines so short crops are needed. I would tell you that if dobermans did not need their ears cropped medically then I wouldnt crop them, but the fact of the matter is they do. Study up. Know your stuff.
@@emilykovacs777 thank you!
cropping the ears is actually very good it can help with ear infections and improve hearing

My dad loves the breed so he got one, but our house is not very big, and we don't have that much space for a dog that requires exercise. But we love our Cherry and she loves us. She's doing just fine.
I own a doberman puppy and he is so fast like when he comes running towards you he leaves a trail of dust behind him but he is only eleven months old and he weighs like 40 kilos. But Dobermans are difficult to handle as puppies but they will become very protective of you and your family as they grow older and also the people they were around as puppies but lock them away if someone they don't know is coming to be around you or they will become very aggressive and protective so beware.

The Doberman the canine land torpedo, they look scary as all get out but if they know you plan on getting a bath. These are some wonderful dogs, if they are kept trim are fast as all get out.
I don’t know why people clip dobermen ears and tails, just accept them the way they’re!! If you don’t want a dog with floppy ears just don’t get it at all!! Even if it looks ‘better’ on them it does them harm
A lot of people do it for different reasons, it looks cool, stops possible injuries, etc. With Brittanys for example, my friend used to breed Brittanys for a while but he would ask the new owner if they wanted its tail docked. He did that because if they are used for hunting they mightget ticks and/or burrs on their tail and it can be painful to pull them off and brush them out of their tail.
@@atticus3442
Thanku
Upright or pointed ears are actually the real natural look floppy ears are a human influenced look in dogs and cause most ear problems. You don't see floppy ears with wolves, foxes or coyotes do you? Or african wild dogs or dingos? And when it comes to tail docking I'm kind of on the fence depending on the dog breed. Dogs like doberman's or stadford Shire terriers/pitbulls often have stiff/boney tails that tend to get injured when they wag their tail so it could actually be beneficial to dock the tale to avoid injury in the future or be very careful about what is with striking range of your dogs tail.
That’s poor cat though- 😂 3:36

@@alexl1557 i am neither a vet nor a doberman owner, but who the hell are you to just snap at someone like that?
fyi, in the past dogs used to fight wolves, and their ears and tails were their weakness, so their owners cut their ears. nowdays in most cases dogs dont need to fight anything, so i say it agian that it's brutal to cut their ears.

I'm really disturbed by the amount of dogs on this video that have docked ears. :-(
Not a Dobie owner, so I had to look up as to what was this thing on their heads. Thought it was for straightening a bent ear, my Shepherd has a 1 up & 1 down. Not cool, not cool at all. And leave their fucking tails on too. My old boss had one he he stood handsomely with his tail and radar ears.
If you are disturbed by that you should be disturbed by neutering dogs as well cause that one is actually bad for their health
@@zenwue4205 Whatever problems there may be with neutering, at least it isn't purely cosmetic. I will probably look into the neutering thing more before I have a strong opinion, though.
@@finickityreader5274 I view ear cropping the same way as male circumcision.
And no, by neutering them you deprive them of their hormones that are important for health and not just reproduction. Aggression is most often related to fear and spaying and neutering can actually make fear based aggression worse. Behavior is also negatively affected by spay/neuter. Most "behavior issues" are normal behaviors for dogs that need modification through positive style training, not surgery.
I will copy-paste my reply from another comment cause I don't feel like writing it all again, take what you want from it.
