I once thought Cricket was weird and hard to understand. After watching this video and having Gavin explain it, I now realize Cricket is weird and hard to understand. Perhaps the internet can help make more sense of this.
ThorW Yeah, it's a little strange for me. I'm a huge fan of baseball and just now started looking up cricket cuz of this video. There's a bunch that I don't understand or don't like, such as the fact that the batsman can get out just for being on the pitch. I think it would be much more interesting if he had to or could get tagged out with a chance of running to a crease. Anyway, an interesting game and I'd play it.
Danger Ranger Dan what do you mean by 'just being on the pitch'? He can be run out by knocking the bails off while the runner is out of his crease. This is equivalent to being tagged out
Lachie55 Ah, so if the runner is on the pitch and the ball touches a bail, then he's out. That clarifies it for me, but I still like baseball's way of doing it more. Much more intense.
When I was living in England a friend of mine tried to explain Cricket to me. I honestly think it is just their version of Calvinball and they are making everything up as they go.
I think I'm one of the only people on here that is really enjoying this fantastic game of cricket, everytime he gets a wicket I'm losing my shit hahaha
This should not have been played with Michael. It should have been played with Geoff. It would have been like Gavin's version of the time they played baseball and geoff almost shit his pants.
I honestly believe the makers of the game made the controls even more difficult to understand so even the people who know how the sport works are confused
To be fair, despite baseball being incredibly popular it is just a strange combination of incredibly simple "gameplay" and a stupid amount of statistics. Something for everyone, Ya know?
Man that opening promo..that awkward moment when you realize you're not wearing one of the 50 shirts the company you work for makes and is probably half your wardrobe...what are the odds.
I actually love this game and play it all the time and this video was incredibly entertaining! It was such a close match! The controls are really complicated and they did well to (sort of) figure them out.
My brain hurts, how do you play this game? what are the rules? what is the goal of this game? how do you score? how long is a game? what is bat and whatever other option is? WHAT IS GOING ONE!?
It's more due to the fact that not many people will buy it, so they need to up the price to ensure that those who do put in enough money for it to be worthwhile to make.
Slippery Gypsy No, its just that games in Australia have something like a 30% surcharge. We pay $90 dollars for $60 games and $110-120 for the biggest AAAs. It is a licenced game though, so that probably factors into the price too. It really should only cost $30, they'd sell more copies and the price would fit the game.
Ben Hjort high in demand? Really? Dont get me wrong, i have nothing against cricket, but sports game in general. I feel like i would stop playing after 1 game
The only occasion I ever made a point of looking up cricket terminology was when I read about the Krikkit Wars in "Life, The Universe and Everything"... Really enjoyed this one, guys~

Hey Gavin thanks for picking West Indies... since I am from the WI it really touched home ...we were laughing all through the match...very entertaining although this would never ever happen in a cricket match...
Reading the comments, I feel the need to warn everyone to not read a comment with the word Americans in it. It is mostly negative, and Honestly if someone is ignorant enough to describe a country as large and diverse as America based on their views of a group of people, then their comment should be ignored.
Just to explain there is a long format of the game which is over multiple days and is tactical and grueling, with multiple smaller plays within it that can change the balance of the match. And there are shorter games over one day or three that contains explosive hitting and the usual fast paced and tactical bowling (pitching) and extremely athletic fielding (catching flying balls close in with bare hands). So yes cricket can be fast paced, it's a sport that a lot of different people can enjoy.
Ulquiorragurl26 It was only removed because France won the gold medal and England couldn't handle the idea of France being the world champions at cricket.
To be fair, half the American 'sports' are not sports... come to think of it, most sports are terrible. Rawr, Olympics! P.S. If fishing is a spoort, then circket sure as hell is.
So it's like baseball but, the 'pitcher' can do a bit of running, he aims bounces the ball instead of a straight pitch and is aiming for the three pipe objects behind him? While the 'batter' or 'cricketer' (if anything) has to hit the ball and run between two points for points and can run up to four points in total? o o General concept of the game or am i just lost as hell? PS: Cricket Major League got a major budget for this technology. :o
Your close the bowler is trying to bounch the ball into the stumps to knock the bails off the batsmen hit the ball out and run if they get the ball to the boundary its 4 runs if they get it to the boundry without touching the ground its 6 runs and theres a shitload of money in cricket these days the cricket world cup just finished afew weeks ago with australia beating new zealand by 7 wickets (they beat new zealands score and still had 7 players yet to bat) though if you wanted to see a quick (in cricket terms) game watch a 20/20 match its all about the big hits
Bowling is different from pitching, in that you can't use your elbow in bowling. The momentum of the ball needs to be provided by the rotation of the shoulder, instead of the combination of the shoulder rotation and the extending of the arm in pitching and throwing. Fast bowlers choose to run up as it gives extra momentum to the ball, but it's not always done. The bowler can choose to bounce the ball up to two times, (mostly just the one bounce though) this is done as a bouncing ball is more difficult to hit than a bowl that hasn't bounced (Full Toss). As for running, there isn't an actual limit to how much a batter can run. At the top level though, running more than 3 is unlikely. Think of running 4 as an inside the park home run. At much lower levels of competition, there have been a few players who have ran 9s and 10s, mainly due to the fielding team making multiple errors.

Also if anybody doesn't know who Don Bradman is, he's arguably the greatest sportsman of all time/ most successful sportsman of all time due to his batting average of 99.9. Basically a century per game.
I really thought Gavin was joking when he said they use thermal imaging
wow the way Gavin explains Cricket gives me a greater understanding of Calvinball
Before watching this video, I knew nothing about Cricket.
After watching this video, that has not changed.
_Hands you a beer_
Congratulations, you are now officially as well-equipped to understand cricket as the average Australian fan is! Enjoy!
At least when they played rugby I kinda got the game a little better, this is so strange and outdated just like baseball 😂
baylaust and you didn't know about Sachin Tendulkar & Sourav Ganguly as well

Can't wait for Rooster Teeth's 100 year anniversary! Everything would be 100% off
I'd be
isaiah ware dead
just wait, they'll close their online store the day before their 100th anniversary
Jacob King Wow, such an original comment.
110 yr anniversary? They pay you to take their items? .-.
They have play this again on Play Pals #150 now or i'm rioting.
One person rioting does nothing
Jack Smith Not rioting at all is the most powerful riot.
Taig Salt I've marked my calender.
Jack Smith maybe...but if i join him that's double the nothingness, so i got his back!

When I was living in England a friend of mine tried to explain Cricket to me. I honestly think it is just their version of Calvinball and they are making everything up as they go.
Being an Australian who understands the rules, the most enjoyable part of this video is the comments of people who have no clue what's going on
Remember the Ashes Australia 5 England 0
Apieceof Toast Oh I remember that. RIP England
Same here, I PLAY cricket
I understand cricket and I still have no clue what's going on
This is the most confusing sport I’ve ever seen. I’m with Michael.
Michael and Gavin are just about the only people who can make me sit through 25 minutes of cricket.
This is Play Pals with a few sprinkles of How To and Rage Quit.
Except Gavin would shit his pants.
Deadly Cheese Well...I think Geoff would still shit his pants.
jair mendez I thought Geoff actually shit his pants
Mike Carney Yea Im sure all of the cricket fans in the community would get pissed psshh
BiggusDikkus He didnt. He almost did and he checked and it was clear.
The should play an AFL game next.
That would be cool but they don't have any Australians in the office
Shredded Neck they could ask Cati to weigh in
Shredded Neck Isn't Jack's wife from Australia? They could invite her as a "special guest" Play Pal.
Caiti's from Sydney so she knows next to nothing about AFL. She knows it's a sport which is a good start though.
Ashley Jenkins use to live in Australia, but I don't think she knows much about sport since she supports manly
$60 huh...
If you know what you're doing, it's worth it
It has been a long time since I have gotten a game that was worth the $60 I payed for it.
***** One dollar one hour !
ZackRToler Lol you just got Spooled.

**holds head** WHATS GOING THE *FUCK ON?! HOW DOES THIS GAME WORK?!* (me 6 minutes in)

Probably like 50%
eshinoti Well you see, if you do the thing over again it's not 50% anymore...
eshinoti NEVER TELL ME THE ODDS!
Rhevvid well if you flip a quarter three times...
Rhevvid Would have been even funnier if he was wearing a Slow Mo Guys shirt.
Cricket kind of reminds me of when kids play t-ball. Once you hit the ball, just run wherever the fuck you want.
***** thats such a wrong statment
***** you've never seen a game of cricket then have u?
I don't think that's how it works
muntymunt No, no he's right
Looks fun, just doesn't look professional.
That was the best Play Pals to date :D This is exactly why you lot SHOULD play sports games :P
I still come back to this video every so often if I need a laugh, absolutely hilarious
one of my favorite AH video
Michael and gavin mentioning this made me remember this little gem
Lovely day for cricket
so as an american who knows nothing about cricket....from this video....i think tht the batter can choose to not run even if he hits the ball, right?
randomcourier Yes, you are correct
yeah mate
Lovely day for cricket, sticky widget, rub the ball, lovely day for cricket, lovely day for cricket, lovely day for cricket.
***** God damn it, Ross.
Lovely day for cricket
Thanks Ross Bernaud
Pop pop Cheerio.

It actually is 😂

I haven’t watched this in years and I’m absolutely pissing myself laughing
Wow did not expect this video! As a cricket coach from Middlesex, it's pretty cool to watch them play as a local team!
everyone being confused about this game is how i feel when they play all of the american sports.
As a cricket fan watching this it was so much fun to watch these two. Especially at the start with michaels confusion

This was great to watch, funny watching Gavin actually knowing stuff, also playing an Australian game :D
this game is just the most British thing ive ever heard or seen
*European
Billy Mays, No, British. It's not popular in continental Europe. It's only played in the UK, its commonwealths, and former colonies.
How popular is baseball besides in US, the carribean?
It's Australian...
***** Japan and South Korea
"Quick question, what the fuck is happening?

nickmoney is this fally?
nickmoney a bowler bowls the ball the batter hits it and runs......pretty simple
nickmoneyDepending on the format, a single game could take half a day or ten days
Thank god America is full of idiots and has sports that are pretty simple to understand. I'll stick to Baseball as apposed to Cricket
You know, seeing this I really don't get why people attack American football
This was absolutely hilarious to watch. Thank you guys for this video.
BRADEEEERRRRRSSSSS!
Thanks to this play pals I now have a perfect understanding of cricket.
I'm guessing It's $60 because of branding, like Madden is.
John Barnes nah probs cause its from Australia where $60 is like the cheapest you will find a new game if you are lucky
It was $100 on release in Australia. And its expensive coz cricket games are rare and in high demand on release. Also, its not licensed +Sunny Lovett
Ben Hjort high in demand? Really? Dont get me wrong, i have nothing against cricket, but sports game in general. I feel like i would stop playing after 1 game

Watched it on the AH website, but I only comment on these on UA-cam! (:
Oh yea, I forgot they upload their videos there too, sorry
No need to apologise man! :D
I must say I ACUTALLY learned how cricket works thanks to this episode. Thanks guys
man I wish there was a face cam during this episode
Amazing of Don to do the commentary from the grave!
I imagine the confusion americans feel watching this is exactly the same as when i watch American Football
This was actually really interesting to watch. I'm legitimately thinking about watching some cricket now lol
The play pals is longer than the let's play :p
love cricket so much, im glad Gavin got him to play
In before Cricket hate. Love this sport
I feel like I finally at least partially understand wtf is going on in a cricket game now. Thanks Gavin!
As an American who doesn't care much for baseball, I'm somehow intrigued by this sport and want to watch a cricket game. Guess it's finally time for me to book that Australia trip.
You don't want to really watch a test match maybe just a one dayer, even the devout fans get bored sometimes during test matches.

I watched a documentary on cricket for school recently, and now I (sort of) understand this video!
Niiiiicccce Gavvy!
Holy crap, I think I actually started getting the game 20 minutes in, like I understood how funny it was that gavin ran twice.
Cricket is probably one of the easiest sports to understand, how Americans don't know whats going on just blows my mind.

7:02 “Australian Sportsmanship”, 8:00 Gavin explains ball tampering. How did he know?
This game looks pretty depressing.
"See his little finger thing? That means four runs" had me dying for some reason
Dont see how people say this game is fast
That One Guy i dont think any 1 has described cricket as fast bar the speed of the ball,or 20/20 witch is alot faster form of the game
This is also being played by people who dont know whats going on..
Who said a five day game was fast?
Only T20 format is fast which was only introduced like 8 years ago
Just to explain there is a long format of the game which is over multiple days and is tactical and grueling, with multiple smaller plays within it that can change the balance of the match. Fast bowlers choose to run up as it gives extra momentum to the ball, but it's not always done.

CJM cola cole Nah, it's too do with legal bowling actions. You can't peg it, so the action required uses the run up for the best speed
You have to keep a straight arm whilst bowling. And it is better if the ball bounces so therefore it is better that they run up.
*COUGH BULLSHIT* *COUGH*

How the fuck do you make that analogy. I garuntee 70% of the worlds poulation doesnt know how to play this game. Plus u have a picture of a fucking sandwhich as your profile pic. Stfu
thats... a really inaccurate assumption
That's an over generalization
I learned how to play cricket in Trinidad, brings back great memories!
I now know how Gavin felt when he played MLB with Geoff. I have absolutely no idea what's going on but it's hilarious
The funny part is that Cricket is really not that difficult to learn but Gavin does everything in his power to make it problematic
As a Trinidadian, this makes me extremely happy
Also if anybody doesn't know who Don Bradman is, he's arguably the greatest sportsman of all time/ most successful sportsman of all time due to his batting average of 99.9. Basically a century per game.
99.4*
Didn't he need one run on his last game and got bowled for a duck?
Please do more of this!
When I see this sport, it makes me think of the book; Life, the universe, and everything.
