It was 2010. I was doing late shifts somewhere near Birmingham, takin a bus back to the Coventry accompanied by tunes from that albums. Man, 13 years passed so quickly. Still listen to this album and Via, newer stuff didn't catched my mood. I feel so old listening to that, life got so different since.
Same thing. Broke up my with ex gf. I was working at gap. Always Late night shift. Iwas staying at my friend's place. Broke as fuck. Every night on my way home on the train, via album. Edge of the earth always got me. Good times
Yeah it really is crazy, especially considering Meshuggah had invented it basically 20 years prior with "Destroy Erase Improve", but it wasnt until after arguably After The Burial had popularized it that all us "Core-kids" started getting blessed by it with shit like this and its contemporaries
I met with Diego in London show. He's such an amazing person. He was on the phone and I shouted "aye Diego. Can we take a picture?" he came and took a picture with us. We spoke for like an hour. Rest easy my bro. Still have the guitar pick you gave me
Completely mind-blowing how ahead of it's time this album was. It literally spawned a whole wave of djent after it that emulated their sound. Thank you, Volumes.
@dlrsnate5100 the 4th mode of the Major scale. If you play c major but start on F as a scale you'd get F Lydian (F G A B C D E). Alternatively you could raise the 4th of any major scale by a half step (so C lydian would be C D E F# G A B), its similar to major in sound but a bit brighter because of that raised note. If I'm wrong about anything someone can correct me
This album was on repeat pretty much my entire high school life. It still hits today. RIP Diego. Glad I got to see this era of Volumes live at least once
Same here! This album was on constant rotation on my walks to and from school throughout my high school years on my old iPod Nano. Those were the days!
@@jackmehoff5482 and I still hold the same regard. This is one of those songs that sounds better everyday. And its not because of nostalgia, is simply a masterfully produced orchestration.
Will always be one of my favs. Memories of smoking and longboarding with my buddy Braedon at the Barrie Waterfront at 5am, 10 years ago. I will never forget.
“Lie down and wait for me to grow old Oh sweet child I recognize your face, from some place I guess I have seen before” idk why this always stood out to me
I remember the first time I heard this song. I was letting UA-cam play whatever music came on next and suddenly this played. It sounded like complete gibberish to my ears and I thought it sounded terrible. Sounded like random notes played at random times for no reason. I went to the comments expecting everyone else to be saying the same thing I was thinking, but everyone was calling it an incredible masterpiece. I was so confused lmao. I kept listening to it trying to figure out what everyone else was hearing that I wasn’t getting. After listening to it probably a dozen times, it suddenly just clicked out of nowhere. It was like my brain suddenly locked into the patterns they were playing, and I could instantly feel the groove. This song that ONE SECOND BEFORE sounded like complete nonsense, in a split second, suddenly made sense to me when my brain finally latched onto the groove. That blew my mind more than anything else ever had! Ever since that moment I’ve been obsessed with these kinds of songs.
I will never forget sharing the same bill with you guys at The Waterfront Tavern in Holyoke Massachusetts. VIA hadnt even been out yet. You guys were just touring on the EP. I still have my You Better Fucking Run & Hide, and Purple & Gold Volumes shirt from that night. Thank you Gus for being such a rad dude that night. My drummer passed away in the band that I was playing with at the time. Any time I hear this song I think of him.
This whole album slaps so fucking hard. But you know what. I love where Volumes is at rn. Theyre the best theyve been ever. Happier? Is an insane album that brings a lot of new and refreshing aspects while retaining a lot of what we loved about this album.
After I finished school and moved 10 hours away from my family to try to make a life for myself, I would listen to this album from start to finish on so many shifts. It's been a while since I listened to these songs but this has still got to be one of my favorite albums ever.
This band was the exact reason I bought a 7 string for my first guitar instead of a normal 6, and this was the first song I had ever learned. Honestly, playing a 7 instead of a six made me a much better player, because I didn't feel limited with what I could play
I love this album and this song! Just mind blowing, full on chills, absolutely love this song! Holy shit I swear music the is best drug there is because you can't get the feeling of this song anywhere else! Bring me to fucking tears sometimes it so beautiful to me.
Happened not so long ago i reflected upon these noises that brought me from my skin again. Finally i can gasp for another breath of light as it bends around the remainder of my soul.
I never had streamed VIA until around 2020. The album sound so new to me. I respect that this album is nostalgic to many people but to me this album reminds me of my recent adult life. I listen to this album solely because it fucking rips. Something about the album invokes a feeling of happiness

This was such unexpected nostalgia. You guys and Monuments were precisely what expanded my musical tastes outward from what I believed was a niche genre. Thank you for the memories.
This album got me through my junior year of high school. I've been to every show you guys have done in Portland, OR. I got to meet Myke and Gus one year at the Hawthorne Theater. They came into the bar and I was able to get a photo and chat with them for a moment. Hope life is well for you guys, if you ever tour again and come to Portland I'll be sure to come party with ya'll! haha

I’ve always thought 3:24 was the most beautiful sound. It makes me feel like I’m flying
