Awesome video! Jimmy, I just want to say that I snagged the prince of nothing series on Amazon. Paperback, and all the covers match their set. I guess I got lucky.
Awesome to see this Jimmy. I often wonder how much you actually like a book considering most get 5 stars from you haha, so this video is very revealing. You had an awesome year. Hope 2023 is even better!
What a treat, I loved seeing you go through this!! I hope I will someday come to like the council of Elrond as well, but for now it's still a pain in the ass, lol. I am also so happy that it's finally January and I can start ASOIAF with so many lovely people, your undying love for that series is just the best! Hope your 2023 is filled with even more amazing reads! Cheers 🤩
Great list Jimmy! I get so many new ideas for my next reads. About to finish Faithful and the Fallen and trying to figure out what’s next! Love the Stormlight reread idea later in the year. My S tier last year ASOIAF, The Crippled God , Fitz and the Fool trilogy. Considering Bakker The Prince of Nothing.. Happy New Year my friend and keep turning the page!
Love your list. Didn't watch all the review video's. Cause i know it will cost me money hahaha. Btw, do you plan on reading the Firefly books one day? I would love to know what you think about those :)
For me Iain M Banks is the G.O.A.T of Sci-Fi, I still have some of his non-Culture Sci-Fi and Literary books to read which I hope to correct this year. I'm reading Grace of Kings right now and really enjoying it.
I loved that you worked through this ranking. It’s a great video. It did leave me with a question though. I know you lean in and favor books I think of heavier but every time you say “Dresden” you also say “fun.” For me, I think of fun as being both rare and essential to my mental health so I really value that aspect of Dresden. My top book this year was the two volumes of the translated work, Lady Joker, so I lean in to serious too, I’m just wondering about your thoughts on the rating weight value of serious vs fun? And if you could then espouse on peace in the Middle East and the meaning of life, that would be great too. *wink*
Hahah thank you for the comment! That’s a really good question and I got some flack for praising Kings of the Wyld, because truly I just had a blast with it. I would consider that book “fun” as well, so how does one rate that against something that speaks deeply to me? Hard to say, and something I am trying to find a balance for. I think maybe the best way to think of it for now, for myself, is that fun alone doesn’t make it elite. However I feel weird saying that because there are definitely books I rank very high that are not “fun” but deeply moving, so why is only fun not viable as a top pick? I’m not sure, maybe I’m just a negative person 🤣🤣🤣 appreciate the question, it’s given me something to think on.
You may have figured it by now, but if you add a book to Goodreads and not part of of Currently Reading/then finish, it adds the book to Read but doesn't add any dates. Your reading challenge, if you click into it, gives you a link to find books you added recently but not dated.
I am in the middle of Tombs of Atuan. Unfortunatelly, I don't think Earthsea is for me, but the 2nd book is definitely better than the first. I like Le Guin's essays and some books of the Hainish Cycle so I can't really understand why Earthsea isn't working for me even though I love the themes. I just find myself being bored more often than not even though the books are short.
Where do you put attack on titan in tier list ? And i absolutely agree with you about monster being one of the best manga because its well written from start to finish even though the pacing is slow (which is intentional) one thing monster do have over Berserk is that its finished until berserk have a good ending i have monster over berserk ( which might change depending on the ending of berserk)
Locke Lamora and "Reaper Man" in B tier?! That's it! Unsubscribing! (Just kidding :-) I admit that sir Terry's humor is a bit of an acquired taste, but once you have acquired it, you never lose the taste for his writing! I hope that sir Terry is enjoying all the games of chess with that anthropomorphic personification with a penchant for a horse named Blinky, gardening and bees. The Witcher in B tier! Now, this is an unforgivable offence! Something like dropping Henry Cavill as Geralt in the series (Bye, bye Netflix!) or Doug Cockle as the voice of Geralt in the games (Don't you dare CD Pojekt!)! Joking aside, everyone has the right to like what they like and not share the love for my favorite books. That said, I probably have just as many books, merch and other trinkets based on the world of the Witcher than on the world of the Song of Ice and Fire. Guess which are two of my top three fantasy series/worlds are :-). I've enjoyed "Kings of the Wyld" by Nicholas Eams a lot. Read and enjoyed the second book "Bloody Rose", as well, but don't think I will be rereading either any time soon. I've read the Thorns (Broken Empire) trilogy by Mark Lawrence in 2022 and although I feel rather conflicted about his writing style and characters, I would definitely not put his works in D tier. I'd also like to read more of his works and have already got a copy of "Road Brothers" (a short story collection in about the companions of the main character in the Thorns trilogy) as well as the "Red Queen's War" trilogy. I've also read Emily St. John-Mandel's "Station Eleven" and while I fought that the book was good and solid, it is definitely not among my top five favorite works of post-apocalyptic fiction (I have a penchant for this sub-genre) or among my top books for 2022. However, I am looking forward to "Sea of Tranquility", another book by the same author. Lock Lamora bumped to tier A! That's a ray of redemption right there! I agree that Bujold will very likely make it to your S tier, but perhaps once you make it to her SciFi works :-) Goodreads (and especially its app for Android) is definitely riddled with plenty of bugs. Seems like you mentioned a self-published book inspired by "Sons of Anarchy"? Either that or my hearing or brain are playing tricks on me, because I can't seem to find it in the video. Could you please write the title and the author, I'd love to read it (if I am able to get it in my neck of the woods). "SoA" is my favorite TV show of all time (and it's not even sci-fi or fantasy). I haven't read the "Raven Tower" by Ann Leckie, but her "Ancillary Mercy" (book three of her "Imperial Radch sci-fi trilogy) is definitely among my top ten books for 2022 along with "Imago" (the third book of the Xenogenesis trilogy) by Octavia Butler. Already got a copy of "Provenance" (set in the world of Imperial Radch) by Leckie and "Kindred" by Butler and looking forward to reading them in 2023. Btw, have you read the Lightbringer series by Brent Weeks? I'm three books in (out of five) and so far I am considerably enjoying it. Seems like an underrated series. Excuse the long comment, I hope that it makes sense or is at least entertaining :-). Happy New Year and may you read even more great books in 2023 than in the past year!
Thanks for such a great comment! The sons of anarchy inspired fantasy is Grey Bastards by Jonathan French, it’s really good! I have not read Lightbringer mainly because of some spoilers I heard for the end that made me unsure if I’d ever enjoy it. Let me know how it is tho!
@@thefantasynuttwork Thank you! The "Grey Bastards" appears to be a trilogy now and the books are available on a certain site that shall not be named, so I will be able to order them. As for the Lightbringer, I will provide my impressions when I am done with the last two books of the series.
Stavely gets so much hate on booktube, Petrik seems to be the only one who likes it as much as I do. I get that people can have opinions and things that don't work for them, but people talk as though it's objectively bad, which is objectively wrong
@@thefantasynuttwork That's fine got the joke aspect, just elsewhere the *type* of criticism can be frustrating. Agree with you on Hunger of the Gods, so far I'm preferring Faithful and the Fallen but expecting the current trilogy to finish strong
Seeing The Aspect Emperor quarda-S-tier made me do some shopping and start reading it in 4-7 days
You’ve read Prince of nothing right? Have fun!!!
Awesome video! Jimmy, I just want to say that I snagged the prince of nothing series on Amazon. Paperback, and all the covers match their set. I guess I got lucky.

If you find aspect emperor as well I’ll be impressed haha
Digging all the self pub books you're exposing!
To this day I'm glad I didn't do the Unhewn Throne readalong, I read Aspect-Emperor instead ;)
Lucky lol

Yup!!

Totally fair
Please rank all Fantasy series you've ever read.
I like this idea
Have you read the Donavon series by W Michael Gear, do you have any plans to read / review it if you haven't yet.
I haven’t read it, I’ll look it up

I’d put AoT on the A tier
Just reread the first law trilogy and enjoyed it even more. I think you will too.
I think so as well!
Great, ambitious idea for a stream.
Was a tough one lol
Watching Jimmy sigh so heavily at every decision whether a book is really good or bad is peak entertainment
This was waaaaay more stressful than I expected it to be lol
Because Fellowship is a superior book to Two Towers and is easily S Tier.
I was asleep when you were doing this, but I see you’re trying to atone for your sins of not putting The Vanished Birds in your top ten. 😂
Don’t hate me hahaha
Sorry I missed the live, in my defence, I was playing GoW Ragnarok.
I may be flipping tables depending how this goes lol ...
Hahaha
I accidental hit the dislike button and corrected it asap to hit the like button
Haha thanks for correcting it!
