He had great talent but no champion material, he was not constant and not able to push a team in the right direction. See the difference when he and Berger switched with Schumi in 1996.
My top ten drivers that deserved a title are Moss, Collins, Brooks, Ickx, Peterson, Gilles Villeneuve, Reutemann, Pironi, Alboreto, Montoya

Jacques Laffite proved he still could bang wheels with the competitors aged 42. He did well with the Ligier-Renault and scored a 2nd place in the American GP at Detroit and a third in Brazil. Very nice list. Number 21 - that was ridiculous!
There are so many possibilities, such as Massa on Senna in Singapore 2012, and Heidfeld's double overtakes in 2008, a top 100 would've definitely been possible.
For instance, I remember being completely dumbfounded on Michael Schumacher's overtake on Fisichella in Brazil 2005, going completely sideways up the inside of Ferra Dura, AND made the overtake stick! Another one that comes to mind is Brundle going round the outside of Berger going into Mirabeau in 1994

  • @francescosatta7746
    @francescosatta7746 6 років тому +36

Great list, but I agree with those mentioning hamilton on raikkonen at monza 07. Also Montoya on Schumacher at nurburgring 03 and JPM on Raikkonen in Brazil 04 should have made the list. Didn't know those passes from Laffite and Capelli, absolutely awesome, but my no.1 would still be Mansell on Berger in Mexico 90...I mean, he was on old tires and made an unbelievable, high speed, outside move at Peraltada, how can you beat that?

Glad to see some brilliant forgotten moves like Alesi on Hill and his double overtake in Adelaide. Order is a bit strange considering many newer ones have the unfair advantage of DRS use. I felt there was some underwhelming overtakes in there... Few more I would've put in too would be:
    Alesi on Senna (US 1990)
Alesi on Prost & Mansell (Monza 1990) Twice for each restart.
    Patrese on Mansell (Mexico 1991)
    Mansell On Senna (Spain 1991)
    Coulthard On Schumacher (Brazil 2001)
    Montoya on Trulli (Imola 2001)
    Montoya on Schumacher (US 2001)
    Montoya on Schumacher (Nurburgring 2003)
    Barrichello on Raikkonen (Britain 2003)
    Heidfeld on Alonso (Monaco 2005)
    Alonso on Webber (Japan 2005)
    Massa on Kubica (Japan 2007)
    Vettel on Alonso (Monza 2011)
    Perez on Button (Bahrain 2013)
    Ricciardo on Vettel (Monza 2014)
    Vettel on Bottas (Spain 2017)
    Ricciardo on Everyone (Baku 2017)
Overall a big fan of your vids and been a subscriber for years. Maybe next video you'll do best defensive driving or defensive moves. Truly an underrated art of racing!

I feel like there is one type of overtake missing: 2003 Imola Barrichello on Ralf Schumacher, 2003 Silverstone Barrichello on Räikkönen and 2016 Abu Dhabi Rosberg on Verstappen. Outbreaking someone is nice, but but attacking someone and forcing him into a defensive position until he can’t defend anymore is the real art in my opinion, not breaking late and hoping your opponent sees you and opens the door for you.

This is just..fantastic. Not just because of how well made it is, but because of the amount of moves I've just never seen. Strangely, the actual F1 UA-cam channel seems reluctant to show some of the great classic races and so we miss out on them. I think it's perhaps because one day they will do something where people have to pay to watch the classics. But this has just beautifully revealed so much of what I have missed about formula one.

    1) The fight between Villeneuve and Arnoux with several overtakes should have been the best in this ranking. Not because I say so but because it was.
    2) Do you know a certain Carlos Reutemann who left Lauda as a road post at Brands Hatch? That's one of the best overtakes in history and just a few laps from the end of the 1978 British Grand Prix. And that overtake was way better than a few I've seen in this video.
    3) Villeneuve overtaking Jones with a lap to go on the main straight in Monaco in 1981 where is it?
PS: Ivan Capelli at No. 1?? HA HA HA HA HA HA

The big issue with Piquet overtaking Senna is that on a previous lap he had tried to overtake but Senna closed the door, Piquet revealed that he overtook as an act that he would not lower his head to Senna as other drivers did, so he went to the end of the straight and literally swallowed Senna in the corner just to demonstrate that Senna would not intimidate him.

@@TheKestevon Depends. Alonso has more balls to overtake on corners you wouldn't overtake normally. Ricciardo just pretty much dive bombs everyone in normal overtaking-corners. Would still pick Ricciardo.

Wait! No Massas' double overtake in Canada 2008? No Prost vs Senna in Suzuka 1988? No Donington 1993 4 in 1 overtake?

Yes, it was called the overtake of the century. But which century ? 20th or 21st ? lol people still arguing about
      it.
In my opinion, it should be :
      1. Webber on Alonso - SPA > inside outside
      2. Hakkinen on Schumi - SPA > straight using a backmarker
      3. Mansell on Berger - Mexico > outside
      4. Mansell on Senna - Hungaroring > corner exit using a backmarker
      5.Piquet on Senna - Hungaroring > inside
      6. Alonso on Schumi - Suzuka > outside
The strange thing is that none of any Senna overtakings come to mind Even though he was the overtakings
      master !...

It just goes to show; the same names appear quite alot, which speaks volumes of exactly what it means to be a real talent in Formula One. Racing is one thing; but you can't teach race craft! :D

Plus, fellow lewis fans, stop whinging. Lewis is getting his 5th title, I'm pretty sure he'd ignore the fact he isn't in this list.
