I'm a massive believer in how important respite care is, both for children with autism and their families. In this video, we show what we get up to while Andy is off having fun, including a cinema trip that include Black Panther, Maze Runner and The Shape of Water, plus a 'healthy' meal out at Nandos. I also explain what respite care is, and why it's so important to everyone who benefits from it.

One thing I struggle with as a single parent is on the rare occasion I have a babysitter, I feel guilty for not using the free time to spend time with friends. I feel like it is hurtful to others for me to be like "I'm sorry, I don't want to meet you for lunch, I'd rather sit home by myself and listen to music." People not in a caregiver situation have NO idea of the stress it puts on a person to not be able to listen to one song uninterrupted, or try to take a 10min break and read, only to return to some catastrophe because I wasn't there to supervise. And of course I sound super selfish expressing these feelings, but even being able to choose what route you drive home on turns into a luxury.
The route home thing is something we’ve never really discussed, but is a big issue now I think about it. Andy gets really annoyed if I go a different route.
I saw black panther opening day (after opening night) with my friends in Chicago during a break from a leadership conference
My son don’t have any friend he hit or beat them up but he one boy who talk to he like him which is nice 👍🏿
Thats nice that they have respite care there. Im frinds with a guy on facebook that lives in the uk that goes to respite. He has a physical disability like i do. The only difference is that he has a severe form of cerebral palsy whereas i have a milder form. Great vid

My son has cystic fibrosis is a genetic lung disease
He has daily physio and medication (antibiotics, vitamins, salt tablets). He has sleep overs at his grandparents once a month or so so that's are respite/ time off xx
I'm a little jealous!! We get 12 hours of "home and community hab" aides every week. Its awesome that you get two days "off" with autism every month :) I guess in the end it works out to about the same with our hours. Yes, you need a break to recharge.
We officially have 9 hours a month of home and community help, but it’s been over a year and we still haven’t been able to find a provider for it.

Cookiez&Milk it was all about a grandmother who has been taking care of people her whole life and how it better prepared her to take care of her grand daughter who had cerebral palsy. I was allowed to skip it, but it seemed like such a beautiful story I decided to watch 😂🤷🏽♀️ they aren’t super common, but I’m glad I saw it.

Hi, i will turn 25 tomorrow and I been thinking respite care for some time. This is my first time to your channel I have Aspergers and it’s nice to hear that there’s things for him to do and places for him to go. Is there’s age limit of this care. My parents need their time alone and I would like give it to them at times. Also do they do birthday parties I have some friends that have made and would like to invite them out for ice cream.
Is shortstay Ana's brother? Also, just curious when you said that Ana's mom, brothers and her don't drive, is there a reason, or do they just not like to drive and haven't wanted to learn? I love you guys, and especially love Andy! I hate when he isn't on the vlogs, and I really love when he closes them out, he's so cute.

I think the main reason is because they all live in the centre of Nottingham and there’s no real reason for them to drive there.

Just to let you know that I have got disabilities and I have just been told that I could have respite care if I wanted to but I said no at the moment but I am 37 so maybe Andy can still have respite care after he has reached 18. I am new to your channel but I thought you should know that he might still be able to get respite just maybe not there if they have a age limit but he could try some where else when he reaches that time.
