And what happens when someone buys you a ticket as a gift ?
i guess you can only dream about your winnings lol
Dream dream dream
I imagine that you would need to bring the person who bought you the ticket?
Ummmm ask them where they bought your gift? It's not that hard
This may literally happen to my mom tonight. It’s her birthday, and her sisters usually give her a lottery ticket in the birthday card as a little something extra. Guess I’ll need to grill my aunt as to where she purchased the ticket… 🙄
Ridiculous.
Fun fact, OLG knows EXACTLY where and who bought that ticket.
It's true!
How the hell would they know who? They have no clue who buys the ticket whatsoever. Even if you use a credit card to pay for your ticket. The credit/debit machine is separate from the lottery terminal. Not to mention, if you use cash, is there some magical tracking device or does the retailer scan your money for fingerprinting? Seriously, how do they know who you are when you buy a ticket. Tell me what conspiracy theory makes you say that.
@@bobwhite4902aww bless your heart, all that writing with none of it true. 😂 they know where the ticket was purchased, the machine it was printed on, and guess what, those stores have cameras and a contract with OLG to help prove funds. Everything is accounted for. But you keep going about your conspiracy theory’s and magic, bob. 😂😂😂😂
@@bobwhite4902 Surveillance Cameras! I may be incorrect, but I believe I remember something about Cameras being required to have the Lotto Machine. So Smile the next time you buy a Lotto Max, 6/49 or place that sports bet!
Maybe not who. But where for sure.
The location, time, and date of purchase should be printed on the ticket.
Right? It wouldn't take much to do. Seems like they don't on purpose, and they don't write anywhere that this kind of information is required upon winning, so they can deny prizes and keep the money. 🤔
It is in the coded numbers on the ticket. They want to know if you KNOW the answer.
What if you found the ticket on the ground?
Finders Keepers, right?
This became an issue because retailers/cashiers were asked by customers to check their tickets, and started scamming them. They would keep a losing ticket nearby, machine would say “no prize”, then the scammers would check the tickets later.
It worked well until someone’s regular numbers won, and he saw the retailer holding the prize cheque (for his numbers)
@@TrickyRicky747👍👍
Oh ya so if someone stole your ticket your S.o.l. In proving it
@@TrickyRicky747 if you find a winning ticket, you won the lottery. There are trying to cheat her.
This is ridiculous. Let the lady have a break.

Why should she get a break? It’s to prevent fraud
@@PanChod-ct7ou If it hasn't been collected OLG would know Let her have her prize

You should get a lawyer!!
Timmies does that too.
Remember last year when 70 million went unclaimed and instead of adding it to the jackpot they claimed they would "spread it amongst the lottery community" whatever that means!
You're absolutely right!
Everybody should just quit playing OLG for a month and see how OLG feels about that!
AMEN
And stop buying from McDonalds too. Force them to lower their greedy prices.
Make sure you tell me when is that day no one is playing I will make sure to purchase a couple tickets definitely would be a winner 😂
@@Ghosts727 LOL! Doesn’t mean your numbers are going to come up.
It’s a security question to prevent stolen tickets but it shouldn’t be the only criteria as whether to reward a lottery prize or not.
How about a follow-up story on how much money the Ontario Lottery Corporation collects each year from disputed claims where the ticket owners can't remember where they bought it?
Just get a receipt from the store. I was told by a store owner. The receipt tells store address and proof that you bought the ticket. If the store owner didn't tell me this, I wouldn't have known.
The money they collect is the price of the ticket.
@@flynncrawford1960 Same. I always make sure to keep my receipt for this reason.
Do you need to also know where you purchased a scratch ticket?
@@SerbiAna47 Yes, when it comes to any lottery, always ask for a receipt, it will say on the receipt, the date, time, and address and the store name. Sign your tickets right away.

But what if it was a gift in a birthday card? I often receive them, but I don't go asking my friends where they got it from?
I hope you would at least thank the person?
@@visaman Yea. Thanks for not remembering where you bought that ticket 8-9 months ago.
When I give lottery tickets, scratch tickets for b-days, Christmas, etc. I always staple the receipt to each ticket.
@monicaarisman4293 Excellent idea especially considering this clip.
If the location of purchase is a requirement, there should be a place on the ticket to document it on the ticket.
If they did that then anyone who found your ticket will know where you bought it. This is a security feature to make sure they pay the right person.
The lottery terminal number that sold the ticket is printed on every ticket.
you are so dumb. The reason they ask is to verify it's you. Printing it on the ticket defeats the purpose and would make them have to ask a new question that will probably be harder.
$1000 should be an easy collection.

Possession is 9/10 of the law if you possess the winning ticket you should get your money without no hassle or questions🔥
A person in mere possession of something does not, necessarily, have a nine times greater claim to the object over someone else. The law always requires a person shows proof of ownership.
They are all done computerized they know darn well which store sold it. Seriously messed up they try to get away with this.
Of course they know where it was purchased. The issue is that she is supposed to know where she bought it. It's been a rule for decades, and this woman is a fool for not knowing the rules.
@@NotExpatJoeYou're clowning hard if you're really trying to rationalize this. You know your existence is miserable when you just want others to lose. Especially when it's a significant amount of money for the winner, that the multibillion dollar lottery organization would never miss.

In BC you can cash winning tickets up to $2000 at lotto retailer booths with absolutely no questions asked. All you have to do is sign the ticket and provide photo ID if you appear to be under 25 years of age. No waiting and no hassle.
In reality most retailers don't have the cash on hand to pay a $2,000 lottery ticket, and you have to mail in the ticket to BCLC Player Services. On top of that, Lotto Express retailers don't pay out for any prizes of any value.
I imagine each province has their own rules and regulations.
Lottery is a fixed system like casinos making huge profits 📈
@@NotExpatJoe grocery stores and convenience stores generally don’t pay more than $200. However, most of the independent lottery centers are encourage with incentives to pay out the amounts up to $2000. I have been working with 4 lottery locations for 15 years and I know that each of them can pay that at any given time. We are not required to pay out cash prizes but as I said, we can pay up to $2000.
@@brianmcdonald6519 that’s right. Even though 649, lotto max and daily grand are drawn all across Canada, each province is separated by their own lottery control center. Tickets can only be validated through the province they were purchased through.
This is a terrible test for OLG. They need to drop it immediately.
Stop giving your money to the government
It never cease to amaze me how if you owe the government money they are right on top of you. BUT if they owe you money they try to stall payments. The lottery is suppose to be a form of entertainment. This is taking the fun out of it.
This is how the lotto can withhold your money!! Ridiculous, who would remember where they purchased the ticket. And what's the reason behind knowing where the ticket was purchased in order to claim it.
My wife could tell you where she bought a ticket ten years ago, and probably what color socks the clerk was wearing at the time.

Every OLG ticket has a number on it and they know immediately after the draw how many winning tickets there are, what the ticket # is that won, and where the tickets were purchased.
They know where you bought it what they are trying to find out is DO YOU KNOW or did you steal it.

I used to work at the prize centre. you can cash your prize by submitting online even if you live in a different province, we had a lot of cases like that. If someone gifts you the ticket and it turns out to be a winner over $1k, they have to provide a releasor form and verify where they bought the ticket for you.
@@aizoko thanks for the info. It means a lot to me.
Based on what was presented, the OLG did not initially give her the money because she could not state where she has bought it from. So what has changed? If they have such as high 'standard of integrity' why did they give her the ticket without her disclosing the location, isnt this the reason they denied it initially? I feel olg should provide a full explanation to the public on this.
Give her the money I meant
@@tovatobski3931The news is doing a bit of a piece by piece story.
The OLG has to determine who the actual winner is. If you cannot prove you are the rightful owner they will have to investigate and this can take weeks....that is where "they won't let her collect her prize". Afterwards if they still have some doubt, but think it might be legit they can put your name as a winner publicly and withhold the winnings for a period of time, and if there are no disputes they then pay you out.
They are mandated by law to find the rightful owner so no they cannot give it out willy nilly
When a winning ticket is presented without challenge or dispute...OLG shut up and pay up!
She needs to check her bank statement
I've ALWAYS kept the purchase receipt with the ticket(s) until AFTER I've checked the tickets. ALWAYS. That's probably why I never win!😂🤣
That is the most insane thing I have either hear. How is it possible to remember why one buys a ticket. I go for gas buy a ticket, go to the corner store buy a ticket, go to Shopper's buy a ticket, go to Super Store buy a ticket. Crazy to expect someone to remember.
Crazy you dont remember your day also phones can track locations you've been and at what time it doesn't take that much effort to scroll and research your winnings location etc
Also if you bought with a card it should show the date time on your bank account and match it with the ticket date and time SIMPLE
@@beebeedeeieyup, phone and debit and then if not just like the person here OLG will just investigate....see if anyone shows up, eventually they will publish you as the winner, withold your winnings for a period of time (all available on their website) and if no one disputes it will probably release it.
They are mandated by law and this is to make sure that we don't create a society that hunts loto winners.
Get a receipt every time you purchase a ticket and keep them together. They are doing this probably to prevent fraud.

Note to self. Check your tickets right after the draw so you remember where you bought it.

Seems pretty convenient that they say "any winnings over $1000" and she won $1003. It's like these companies know how the game works and rig it in their favor. 🤔
The rules were created to protect lottery winners. It's not their fault this woman can't understand rules that have been in place for decades.
I often purchased tickets in different areas. I never thought I had to remember exactly where I purchased my ticket. If this is a requirement it should be made clear to everyone.
Ridiculous!!
They have no problem accepting the buy of the ticket!
I buy lottery tickets all over, wherever I am at the moment and I would never remember where I was. So, OLG???
This is either pure incompetence, or deliberate attempt to avoid payouts by the lottery corporation. The reference should be ON the ticket.
They can ask you even the time when you buy a ticket. Who remembers that!!! Or what else did you buy with the ticket 😡. This is ridiculous!!
Wow. That is unfair. Boycott olg

So you have to keep tracks of stores? That is sad.
I learned from a variety store in Ontario to get a receipt when buying a ticket. The store owner told me a big winner had to wait a year before he got his money because lotto had to investigate where the ticket was sold. I always get a receipt. It tells the store and address.

As a regular lottery player, I know ALL of the rules/information that I need every time I purchase my tickets . One of the rules that I make sure that I get before I leave the store every week with my regular tickets is to GET THE RECEIPT. Write where you bought it in on the back just in case.
Give the woman her money!
Someone didn't listen to the video they gave her the money and DO NOT WRITE IT IN THE BACK. THey ask you this to prove you are the rightful owner. If you do this, and they cannot prove it you will be waiting for your money. THIS PROTECTS THE WINNER
There is no contract that requires this information at the point of purchase, therefore this is illegal. Also, this would be simple to add to the codes printed on the tickets, so this is on the OLG, not the consumer. Claiming they are "required to determine the rightful ownership of that ticket" is NOT a defense. They have to PROVE that you do not have legal possession of a ticket. This is just another Governmental claim that you do not own your property. As long as it is in your possession and there is no claim of theft, they have no right to refuse. This is breach of contract and if it happens to you get a lawyer, if the amount is over 500. Otherwise you would have to take them to small claims court (cost about $50 to file).
The cheating thieves will do anything to deny you your money, surprised there was really a winner

The OLG is not fair to this woman because they need to drop such questions. The woman cannot remember where she bought the ticket unless she wrote that on the back of her ticket as an example.
I don't think I will ever play again until the draws are live again . This whole we draw the numbers through a ( random number generator) should not be trusted .
I AGREE....WHY IS IT NOT LIVE SO THAT WE CAN SEE WITH OUR OWN BEADY EYES.
This process is there to not let someone who might have stolen the ticket to pick up winning prize i think.. probably just check your ticket and get your prize right away to avoid this issue. There were cases that someone like friends, family stole winner’s ticket and tried to claim the prize.
ALL TICKETS HAVE THE STORE NUMBER WHERE WE BUY THEM...DON'T THEY!!
