- Опубліковано 9 сер 2023
- Today I'm revealing ALL 16 credit cards I've had, and how I've earned over $30,000 in value from rewards and benefits over the years. What credit cards should you have? Which cards should you get FIRST and why? Which credit cards should you AVOID? We'll cover it all while going over how I kicked of my journey, went through an unconventional path, and how I maximize value from each of my cards.
These personal setup videos are one of my favorite types of videos to watch, and thanks to @SpencerJohnsonOfficial for mentioning I should turn this into a video! Hopefully you'll find value in this breakdown!

Hope you enjoyed this ENTIRE breakdown of all my credit cards! It's my longest video yet but I wanted to make sure I could get it all out there. Is your credit card journey similar? Let us know down below!

I love watching credit journey videos too
Yeah it's always nice to hear about the why behind everyone's cards
Let's go!! You lived up to your end of our bargain I see! I guess it's my turn... 😆 Your journey is definitely a unique one and I really enjoyed getting to hear about it again!
Haha, let me know when you do! And always happy to share
Really fun hearing your full Credit Card Journey Kevin! I definitely wouldn't have guessed your first 5 Cards, and it was cool to hear your experience with Canadian & BMO Cards! Awesome that you are getting so much value from the Plat and utilizing a ton of the Credits! Definitely a Card I want to get here pretty soon as I start traveling more. Great video as always Kevin!
Yeah that was one of the reasons why I thought this video would be cool, is because my first few cards are pretty uncommon! About the credits, stay tuned next week for a video all about my credits use :)
Awesome video! Thanks for sharing your journey! I’m trying to figure out my next move, I was going to get the Venture X, but got the Saver One three months ago, so I have to wait another three months to get out of capital one six month jail. I fly a ton and was thinking about the United Explorer card because of no annual fee in the first year to get pre-check, but a little hesitant after hearing your experience with it. I am in Orlando, united does not have a massive presence here. Green card also looks super attractive, especially with the clear membership! The lounge buddy credit could also be useful until I can get my venture X priority pass
Was looking forward to this after Spencer’s episode! Awesome video Kevin! Always like seeing how everyone went about their credit card journey.
Had to do it after the interview! And same here, always love to hear the whys and decisions behind each card
He's a man of his word!
This was great to watch. I'm always interested in content creators journey and how it all started. Thanks for sharing and great vid Kevin 💥
Thanks Mike! How is your credit card journey?
@@KevinYang Still need to figure out my end-game, but I'm on track for where I need to be right now
@@MikeMaye Awesome hearing that!
Love the Ink play!! Also 5 in J to Asia?! Hats off to you, that’s amazing 🎉🎉
I’m debating another CIP or just grab a couple Barclay’s co branded biz cards.
Cool to see you here John! Love your content (both on here and TikTok) haha. And yeah that was during the time where SQ partnered with Aeroplan for more award space, so there were TONS of flights each with 3-5 J seats each for like a week. CIP is great especially with that spend, though haven't looked much into Barclays, what do you love about them?
@@KevinYang Thanks man! And yea I've been seeing your videos pop up on my home page, keep killing it!
Oh that makes sense. I think I also snagged one, headed out to BKK next month - SQ J.
As for Barclay's biz just a SUB play for some points on JetBlue and Hawaiian.
@@johnsfinancetips Your YT focus coming from TikTok really putting you on a rocketship of growth!
Nice! Have you flown SQ J before?
@@KevinYang Nope, this will be my first time on SQ J, upper deck on the a380 too - I'm so pumped!
How about yourself and where are you headed off to?
@@johnsfinancetipsDamn the A380 too, still need to try that!
This trip I'm doing LAX-SIN, SIN-ICN on SQ J, then ICN-NRT on the only J available which was ET?
Spencer sent me so im here and not leaving. No no great video, hope to see more
Glad to have you here! Hope you enjoyed the video and the contents!
I love to see it!
very good and detailed video Kevin. Do you think credit card companies like capital one, amex, chase will still be relevant 10-15 years from now as Apple and other multinational corps embark on their "banking " journeys?
I think they will be to some degree yes! But with so many new attempts from companies of all sizes (big names, new startups, etc), the landscape will be quite different
I’m happy that you mentioned the closure of your BOA credit card affected your credit score. This seems to be a mix point where people believe that this won’t effect your credit score since it’ll stay on your credit for 10 years. I remember when I had a credit card close on my report for inactivity. My score dropped about 20 points 🤷🏾♂️.
Wait you go to Vegas every year? 😮😮😮. I’ve never actually been 😂.
C1VX vs Amex Plat, which one do you like more?
With the CIU, I definitely don’t see you getting the CFU since it has the same spend category.
Thanks for sharing your journey. I’ll do a similar style video at some point (not on the radar yet though 😂).
Congrats on the CIP!!
Yeah with the BoA, I think it affected by double digits, but probably got masked by my other credit cards so overall I'd say not too big of a deal.
Vegas usually, but if not I usually can find an FHR elsewhere, but the prices of those hotels may be slightly higher than Google or elsewhere, so not getting the "full" $200.
Man that's hard.. I feel like the C1VX and Amex Plat are my two power cards.. but purely for all the perks and Centurion lounge, Amex Plat!
Haha do it! Love see everyone's journey through credit cards, and thanks!
Awesome credit card journey Kevin! I was actually very similar in that when I started, there were long periods where I didn’t apply for a single credit card! Just like you, now my velocity is a lot faster than before! I also hold the United Gateway. I think you’re the only other person that I know that has one as well, haha!
Did you get that straight away or also downgraded from the Explorer? How have you used your United points?
@@KevinYang I actually used the United Explorer as my exclusive restaurant card for like 3 years (not the best I know). I was flying at least 4 trans-US round trips per year so I would just redeem every 25k I hit (back then 12.5k per leg)! Earn and burn! Then I stopped flying trans-US and only flew intrastate flights in CA so I switched to Southwest instead of a United and the Gateway card was a better fit!
@@TheCreditFrog On one hand those flights must be exhausting, but on the other hand it's a great way to rack up points (and maybe even status?)!
Hey, I also studied Computer Science 💪 You got a great 1st credit card, too bad it got closed 😂 Interest credit card journey and video ✌️ Keep up the great work 🙌
Nice, do you also work in the field!
@@KevinYang only worked a couple of year as a computer technician and network administration. Joined the ARMY young and retired 😂
Hey Kevin, I'm curious what editing software do you use?
My editor edits these videos, but I personal used Davinci Resolve when doing so myself
Damn, I am also from Canada, looking to move to the US. Hope I can start my US credit card game as early as possible :)
Don't forget Amex has a program that lets you use your Canadian credit history for your US Amex cards!
@@KevinYang yup have my Hilton Aspire for a while 😁
Great video.😊
Thanks for watching!
Very helpful!
Glad it was helpful, and thanks for watching!

I have question. Now that I have chase Trifecta, Chase Hyatt, Venture X, and SavorOne, what else might be good keeper cards? I have to apply for my preferred 4 year anniversary bonus in Oct. After that I can apply for a couple more cards. I dont know which ones though. I was thinking the Aoroplan card with chase or Citi premier. They both have annual fees.
Most will tell you not to worry about "keeper" cards. Aim for cards with high sign up bonuses. Amex and Chase business cards are great.
@@LK_EBM I dont have a business. Also what do you ink about Citi premier?
First off, that's an amazing setup! Have you ventured into Amex cards like the Gold or Platinum?
@@KevinYang Thanks, but No, Amex is a hassell, to get credits for like Platinum, as you know. And there is no downngarde path . Also recently I in a restaurant in NY and this guys pulled out his platinum to pay, only told by the waiter in front of others, "we dont accept amex"! And this is NY city.
@@trave7644 you should start a business. you are missing out on a lot of $. Citi premier is great! But I'd wait until there's a 80k bonus.
I just want to know what’s the purpose of having so many credit cards? Do you really spend that much which one card or a few cards can’t cover? If that’s the case, wouldn’t be more convenient to accumulate all the points in a few cards? I know there is sign up bonus, but that is one time only in 2 years. I used to do the same thing in my 20s, now look back I think it’s a waste of time. Why not use these time to pursue some type of career and earn more money than these sign up bonuses.
The main reason is that different cards have different earning rates for different categories, as well as separate welcome bonuses that really inject a ton of points at once each! Career-wise, this is pretty much an interest of mine, while already having a pretty great regular job :)
