Anyways I just got my Dx 286 yesterday I have 909x2. 990x DH 808 this little 286 is the best radio I have it out performs every single radio I have I'm in central Alabama USA I FM scanned last night counted 86 different FM stations some I've never heard of. On am was getting cuba on 530 mw stations I've never heard no other radio I own does better I use a Sirio boomerang on my back deck and yes FM works with the antenna jack. Most radios won't work on mw or FM this one does id recommend this DX 286 to anyone for the price. And for it's size it's sounds decently pleasant. I love this radio $79 Amazon worth every cent!!

I just wish that the maker of the chipset could come out with a new TEF series chipset that does more such as receiving single side band and CW signals and also decode CW signals just like how those ATS-25 Max receivers do. I like the DX-286, it's a great pirate LW-MW-SW-FM seeking receiver.

I have two of the DX-286s. They are fantastic. I love the FM profiles. The C.Crane Twin Coil antenna turns this little guy into a Medium Wave Champion :) Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this radio. The Browse feature of the DX-286 picks up faint stations incredibly well, it is great to use on Shortwave. The current draw of .190ma is well above average, but having a couple batteries with you is good, just have to store them correctly for travel. There is some new tech in 18650s, and they have realized capacity values up to 4,000mAh now. I tried one from a current flashlight that came with a 3,800mAh Protected Button Top, and it tested 3,800mAh using a discharge value of .500ma.

On a different UA-cam channel, the video claimed that protected 18650 cells don't fit into the DX-286. It sounds like your protected 18650 cells fit in. Is that correct? I am new to 18650's, and I think I'd prefer protected cells, if they fit of course. I couldn't find any indication in the manual for the DX-286. Thank you.

@@privatestuff4432Protected button top 18650s do indeed work in this radio, as long as the positive tip is the normal variety. I had a few orbtronics that didn't work because the button top was too shallow. Every other Orbtronic Protected button top I put in later, worked. Protected button tops from 18650batterystore will work as well. It is the wrap, or thickness of the battery that makes for a snug fit. Rotate the battery so that the protective strip that runs down the battery is towards the battery door.

I bought two XHDATA 3000 mah batteries and they are working well. There's room in the carry case for the second battery where the charge cable is stored. Incredible MW performance with the telescopic antenna and amp.

I just received mine yesterday. Likes so far:
-It truly is a DXing machine, very sensitive on AM, FM and SW
-Looks and feels nice, good build quality
-Sound is very crisp and clear for such a small speaker
-Earbuds sound nice on this radio
-Manual is good compared some other brands (XHData), written in good English
    Quibbles:
-Fairly steep learning curve on using all the features
    -Definitely not intuitive controls/settings
-Kick stand is pathetic- either strengthen it or delete it
    -USB-C would be nice
Bottom line: seems to be an excellent radio.
Oh, one more thing. I have a 7m retractable wire antenna in my house. It works well on my XHData D-109WB, but I can’t use it on the Qodosen. Still, any SW signal the D-109 picks up using the wire, the DX-286 can pull in with the whip antenna.

This radio is very good near "blowtorches" on FM, it can handle these signals and still pick out the weaker ones due to the multiple FM banwidths. Now take a radio such as the Xhdata D-808 which cannot handle strong signals as good as the 286 and has a very wide FM bandwidth setting that cannot be changed. BUT put the D-808 up against the 286 in an area that does not have blow torches nearby and the clear winner is the D-808 for picking up signals by some margin over the 286

Update: Batteries now included!! Amazon is now shipping these here in the US with two batteries. No excuse not to buy one now. 😊

I find that lithium batteries …when they start to go….they go quickly. No matter what device you are using them in.

Just to be sure, were you referring to lithium or lithium ion batteries? One is a disposable primary battery - the other one is rechargeable. 🙂

I was going to buy one of these radio's. But when I discovered they don't come with a battery I didn't get one. It would have been another 20 pounds for a battery and charger. Plus it doesn't receive ssb.
    Nice video, many thanks.

The 18650s are not that expensive and can be charged in the radio. I believe there is an issue with shipping them so they come without them. Its true the radio doesn't have SSB but its a superb receiver.

@@KevinOReillyswl Yes I do agree, the radio is superb. The radio is selling on Amazon for 84 UK pounds. So with batteries and charger plus p&p around 110 pounds. I mite buy one when they drop the price. I did hear they are bringing out a updated version. To address some of the issues people have commented on.
