Bradshaw's 6 step drop back is so weird compared to the shotgun we see today.

Lambert's neck brace is archaic but kind of cool looking.

Yup, the Steelers defense was healthy. I see that Stabler was slow to get up after taking a 'blind side' hit from Steelers outside linebacker Jack Ham.
But that was nothing compared to the two hits (1975 AFC championship & 1976 season opener) on Lynn Swann by George Atkinson that resulted in concussions.
I always thought it was hilarious that the Steelers took pride from intimidating the Dallas Cowboys in the Super Bowls. But after playing the Raiders, the Steelers 'all of a sudden' wanna scream about the Raiders DB's as 'criminals'.

@@hammer44head Yes but the rivalry didn't conveniently end in 1979 when the Steelers dynasty ended. The Raiders then won two more SB's, beating Pittsburgh in both seasons. What''s dubious is that Noll couldn't admit his team often played as dirty as Oakland did, and that plenty of Steeler fans still try to claim that 1976 was their year when they lost to Oakland with AND without Bleier and Harris.

In this era, the league was divided into two or three layers. The top layer teams were demonstrably superior in talent and a few other things, and players remained with their clubs longer. Hence dynasties could exist. Hence--even though I'm not much of a follower of GOAT theory--you can make a case that some of the dynasties of the 70s, 60s, or 50s were the greatest teams of all time. Today's NFL is different; teams are roughly equal; QBs and others are [over?]protected; vast amounts of money; and championships seem to go around more freely. Here we are seeing two of the greatest teams of all time. I just get chills when we bring back the old NFL like this, SportsStatsNGrab. I suspect there is still market value in 'old school' football, maybe the NFL should get with it. . . PS this was the only year the Raiders got past the Steelers and it was because the Steelers were minus their All-Pro running backs. The Raiders went on to win the Super Bowl. The incessant proselytizing of Steeler fans trying to claim 1976 as their year makes me think Pittsburgh fans are bad winners AND bad losers. Oakland had also improved since the Week 1 victory over Pittsburgh and could have scored more than 24 if needed. It was easier to play ball control and run out the clock with how much they had the Steeler offense under control. Franco and Rocky were unlikely to be worth 17 points. What next? Was 1980 really the Steelers' year in spite of being beaten by Oakland, 45-34. Or 1983 when they got barbecued 38-10 by the Raiders in the opening round. FFS Dallas didn't have Calvin Hill or Bob Lilly against Minnesota in 1973 but no one on Dallas whines about getting beaten fair and square by Bud Grant's boys. The Colts were missing their two top QB's in the tiebreaker playoff game against Green Bay in 1965, but I've never heard Baltimore veterans grouse they were the real champions. Craig Morton's arm was almost falling off in SB 5 against Baltimore, but Dallas' job was to overcome adversity and they came up just short. In the same game, Hall of Fame QB Johnny Unitas was lost to the Colts, but Baltimore persevered and triumphed. Pittsburgh earned the title of being the Team of the Seventies, but on this day, as Villapiano said, they got a good old fashioned butt kicking. The more some Steeler fans rationalize this loss, the better this rout looks on them.

The Steelers were lucky to win that game. They scored 2 TDs in less than a minute after the Raiders had back to back turnovers inside their own 30 yd line. The bottom line is that the Raiders got caught looking ahead to Super Bowl IX and a few bad breaks and bounces of the ball cost them the game. They had beaten the Steelers 33-14 in the playoffs the season before and shut them out in Pittsburgh 17-0 during the 74 regular season. It would be the last time they took the Steelers for granted again. The Steelers beat them 16-10 in the 75 AFC Championship game for the last time in the 70s. @@christoforosrountis1976 As you say "defense meant everything" and the Raiders offensive line pushed the Steel Curtain all over the place this day. Stabler only attempted 16 passes in whole game. If you listen to the announcers, they even repeatedly say that the Steeler defense couldn't stop the Raiders. In addition to Oakland's 24 points, the Raiders even missed a short field goal and turned the ball over on downs twice in the 4th quarter inside the Steeler 25 so they had the opportunity to run up the score had the game not been essentially noncompetitive by the 3rd quarter. So unless Rocky and Franco were going to help on defense, Steelers weren't going to beat the Raiders this day....
