so you really hate the extra components and extra effort that was put in this game? i wish modern board games would have actual 3d terrain than silly tokens
Dark World was Mattel's answer to HeroQuest and unfortunately you're correct,it's very bland and linear, but that doesn't mean it can't still very useful.I've used Dark World as a side quest to use with HeroQuest where the heroes find a secret chamber and then I reveal DW.Even though HQ is really great,it does bog down at times, so when a new play area is revealed like DW,boy I tell ya,everyone straightens their backs and gets excited.HQ is a great rpg engine and game that on its own is great, but with added games like DW that follow a similiar theme with boards, etc. while still adhearing how you see fit to HQ rules it becomes a true masterpiece of unlimited potential.A DM dream come true.
I cannot agree with you when you say that the doors, secret passage, treasure chest, gold weapons are unnecessary and could have been replace by a counter. That is part of what make the game special. Do you realy think its more fun to pick up a sword counter then swapping the gray weapon from your character to put the golden one? Opening doors is nice too, makes it feel more immersive. The game might not be the best in term of gameplay but those aspect did help. Remember that those game were made for childrens mostly and I remember loving all those little elements when I was 12.
I still have my copy from when I bought it after it came out. The sword was cool and the dice were a new concept for me. For it's time it was fun. I want to play it again for old time sake. See if the boys in my game group will try it. Get some laughs. Thanks Marco for making this video.
What annoyed me most when I got this as a kid was that the german version was sold under the label of a quite famous german RPG-system (Das Schwarze Auge / The Dark Eye) and the monsters looked HARLDY like the ones in our imagination. But then again, there's no concept of "cash-grab" in childrens 's minds and for certain no "over-production" so it was a pretty neat thing to have. For some time at least.
I still remember buying this game while shopping with my girlfriend at a Rockbottom store and It's still in great condition... had a lot of fun with this and I may have to break it out for old times
I remember having this game. But my mom wouldn't let me and my brother keep it because she saw as Demonic and looked too much like Dungeons and Dragons.. And Now that I'm an Adult, it pisses me off that me and my brother never played it. Well, heres hoping it gets a revival.
Daniel Ramsey You should try and get Dungeon Quest, sometimes you can find one that's unopened on Ebay. Maybe you'd find the game he's got in the video too.
I loved this game as a child. i own it even today but it is really nothing I would play again. Youshould check out "Die Legende des Sagor" (german title). Another game with a voice computer. Loved it as a child but today...wow...very lacking. :)

OMF.... That sword activation marker. That's the greatest thing I've ever seen.
+Drive Thru Review Indeed. :)
well, have you seen the domino mask in Inkognito? That's another impressive component. One day I'll make a video about the oddest game bits I own
I have. The sword is better :)
well, uhm, yes. But the domino is a close second!

Still have this. Remember when I got it 20 something years ago. First minis I ever painted.
Just picked it up Marco, you are spot on with the review.
where can i get a complete copy of this awesome game?
Any game similar to this, out these days?
I still remember buying this game while shopping with my girlfriend at a Rockbottom store and It's still in great condition... had a lot of fun with this and I may have to break it out for old times
just houserule it and will be fantastic for adults too. it was a kid game....
Yeah, I bought this for the components to use with Advance HeroQuest. I think HeroQuest was too expensive or hard to get.
Hey! I have this game. Not fun to play, but I use the minis in my miniatures game. HeroQuest was a much better dungeon crawl board game.
Marco, you find the best games even if you say they are "not the best"

Marco, I like your conclusions, I found a copy in a garage sale and just scavenged the parts for other games.
Why are you so negative, this is a great game to play with the kids. Plus it's easy to add variations.
I laughed right when the video started, holy component overload.
"over produced?" That is the stupidest thing I have ever heard...
I loved this game as a child. i own it even today but it is really nothing I would play again.

Terrible review!
