Urbn Surf Melbourne, Intermediate VS Advanced (for hacks)

  • I found there was not much footage of the intermediate wave VS the advanced with the same person. Hopefully this video shows you what a hack looks like on both waves. I had no trouble getting up on both waves but ultimately to 7'8 was too big for the advanced. It would be great if you knew which wave you were on each time, but there are no signs. Please let me know if you have any questions. UPDATE: 5.3.2020- I surfed advanced today and a guy got hit by a board in the head. Not sure if it was his but lots of blood and he was helped from the water by another surfer.

Nice to see an intermediate perspective for some contrast. Well explained. Cheers dude.

Awesome, I take my hat off to you as someone who started surfing 31 years ago. It’s nice to hear from a person who actually knows their ability and limitations, as most people out there think they surf a whole lot better than they do....until of course they see video footage. As I’m getting a bit older now I’ve now come to the conclusion that I need to get more surf fit and to not expect to surf in the same way say 10 years ago.
I’m heading there tomorrow, so I appreciate your in depth review and the footage.
    Thanks again 👍

      Firewood
And I should have said 36 years ago, I started when I was 10 and did maths at Uni, so how the hell did I get that wrong? And yes UA-cam, I just gave away my age.
If I remember I’ll try and get back to you, and if you’re ever down this way (Juc) send me a message as I used to be a surf instructor for beginners, and I’m not suggesting you’re one, but I might be able to help you on your quest to be a better surfer. And....to add, I’m just starting out with video making, and am happy to take on any information I can find.
      All the best, Paul

I booked in last week. Was advised to do intermediate, but after researching, i felt it wasn't going to be worth it. But not having surfed the pool, I figured I do that first anyway, just to get the "vibe."
For me, Int. was lame. and it gave me a false impression of what the advanced was. The two are VERY different waves (same pool!)
So it took me a few waves to adjust to Adv.
Advanced is DEFINITELY what it says on the packet - ADVANCED. Don't surf it if it's beyond your level. They told me it "broke like Bells." It DOES NOT break like Bells!! More like Boneyards or a heavy, dredging reefy, and if you mess up you WILL connect with the bottom!!
I messed up about 3 times!
There were about 18 guys out, all very competent except one guy who was a bit of a nob head, and he kinda messed up the session for people by missing waves and not waiting his turn.
    Don't be that guy.

Great video! I found it very informative. I have my first visit coming up in a couple of weeks time. Without knowing much about the place, I booked the advanced session. This was just based on wave height. I love 1.5 - 2.0 meter waves. I was worried about a steep take off, but I'm happy you confirmed the advanced and intermediate would be similar in this respect. I feel more confident now. Thanks again :)

No Problem mate. Paddle hard. The first couple of waves on the advanced are a little similar to the harder ones on intermediate.

79 bucks for that, urburn surf will definitely go under , sad but if you have a product that isn’t quality it will never last, although they might scrape through as this is probably good for kooky riders like this guy

It is worth a go just once but as a middle aged kook I prefer the sheltered reef breaks in the Ocean at Westernport.

I swear to god (some) surfers are the biggest losers in the YT community. If you cant afford 79 bucks , wtf are you doing in the YT comment section? Get a job, a real job. I spend hundreds of dollars a week here, and my skill set is going through the roof. This place is ALWAYS booked out, even during a pandemic. Oh, and you dropped the 'kook' word: Everyone knows its the ***** trash who make comments like that. You're probably salty your getting gentrified out of your beach side neighbourhood. See ya loser.
