I'm filming an episode where I talk about my experience at the wave pool. Comment below any questions that you have about it and I'll answer in the video! thanks for watching
Nice footage! Can better understand what the experience is like now - thanks. Some questions: - What's the cost? - It seems like the wind direction makes a difference, but how much? - How many waves could you get per hour? Interested in if there's much of a queue - What's the vibe like there? - Looks like most are on 6'-ish thrusters. What board/s worked best?
@@gridkid He probably answered your 3 year old questions, but I'm here so I thought I would (so if anyone sees this they can get some answers without watching the other video). Cost is approximately $100 per hour, more if you hire stuff. Wind direction does impact the wave a little. I've surfed it 4 sessions, all of which were onshore, and the lip crumbled a little more than I would expect if it was offshore. However, this was really not a big deal, it had basically no impact on the wave face. The pool itself is surrounded by a wall which does shelter the main section from a hard on or cross shore so I wouldn't stress about wind direction personally. Waves per hour will depend on how many people are in your session. I surfed yesterday for two hours, back to back, and my total wave count was north of 30. However, both sessions there were less guys there than there were waves in a set, and on 1 set I fell off the first turn and was able to bag another. I have had a session where it was much busier and I didn't get a wave every set. That hour I got about 10. There is a set roughly every 3 minutes. The vibe is ok. People try to be friendly but I think most guys are a little intimidated by the place. Generally speaking people seemed a little nervous. Ive never seen anyone be an outright dick but you still get those arrogant tools you get in any lineup. People who will paddle past you without asking and crap like that. They are the minority though, most guys are nice and the staff are, mostly, really nice as well. But everyone seemed a little tense, at least in the intermediate and advanced sessions that I did. The board you should ride depends on what session you are going for. If you ride a mal or fish or something then you should definitely try the cruiser setting. Intermediate is ok for those as well although I probably wouldn't ride a log on that setting because it does get a little harder. But there's no way i'd ride something like that on advanced or advanced turns. The thing about the wave is the takeoff - its really tricky and hard. Its basically a wedge, its nothing like a pointbreak or even a punchie beach. On advanced it sucks up off the wall and is super steep. It was hard to make the drop on a lot of them for me, i'd guess it would be nearly impossible on a log. Then the wave itself is pretty steep on advanced (or the last half of intermediate). You do need to surf top to bottom and not search for the shoulder to do cutbacks. So i'd guess that unless you are an expert at riding those craft, anything less than a performance mid-length is a no go for anything over intermediate.
Hey mate I reckon it’s about 4 ft face, but it kinda jacks up steep right before it barrels and throws a pretty thick lip. It’s more gnarly than you expect. When you fall it gives you a bit of a hammering haha. Super fun for sure
@@joshtraceysurfing maybe soon we will have the first serious skatepark in 40 years. because in February a surfer boy died of an accident and in his honor our politicians competed to win the contract ... but only to have the name of the politician not for that boy... 🤔
Hey mate, the advanced session changes halfway through from a normal wall wave to a dredgy barrel. The expert session barrels too! Such a fun place, definitely worth the money.
immense..that looks way better than the UK version , I feel they have toned it down alot here....even the most advanced plus and expert setting is nowhere near as good.
Yeah I saw some vids of the one in Bristol. Surely it’s just a matter of tweaking the program to ramp it up? We have an even more heavy setting here called Beast mode which is a full slab barrel. It’s way more gnarly in real life though!
@@joshtraceysurfing Yea when the pro,s tried it at Bristol when it was first switched on it was a big heavy barrel but they tuned it down for regulars but too many people were going on it without the skils so they decided to employ a licence to ride thing where you had to essentially do a surf test to see if you could qualify for the expert wave but I think they just scrapped that idea and nurfed the expert wave instead..:O..on your wave you see how it walls up in front of you ..ours doesnt do that its a tiny barrel with possibility of mabey a split second cover up head dip.

Is it fresh or salt water? In what way was it harder than expected? Which session did you enjoy the most? :)

Nah that’s not possible. Great experience but the ocean has so many more benefits. Plus the freshwater really affects the performance of your board
