  • Today we try to improve the handling of our boat with some @ZipwakeAB Interceptors. This awesome bit of kit should make our boat more stable, so we head out on sea trials once they are fitted, and they work better than we thought.
We have fitted Zipwake Interceptors 300s and these can be purchased from Hypromarine - www.hypromarin...

If you put a hot air gun on the conduit it should bend to the shape you want

Sounds like the only thing left to add to the boat is a set of 'Doelfins' on the motor's cavitation plate. Flatter ride, better acceleration and better fuel consumption...They made a huge difference on our dingy's 15hp Evinrude, no more 'digging in' on take-off and more of the prop wash directed down instead of up to the surface...

I believe they are sold under the brand name stingray in the U.S. They definitely add to the boat's ability to get out of the water and onto a plane quicker. I'm told they help with fuel economy too but I never ran without one so can't comment on that.

I knew about interceptors and the principle of how they work. They are at least as efficient as trim tabs and are used on work and patrol boats. But I did NOT know about the automatic roll compensation. Very interesting.

I said before for such a small boat you should keep it as simple as possible. This is just something else to go wrong, bare essentials only for safety and to prevent unnecessary problems. With all these accessories is your charging system going to be able to keep up, 60 horsepower motors don't have big charging systems. However, it is your boat best of luck to you guys.

The fitting of the Zipwake interceptors seems to be controversial in the comments section, but the results spoke for themselves in my opinion. I don't know anything about boats, I hasten to add, but I do know what my eyes tell me and it certainly looked more stable. That will certainly make standing up with a fishing rod more comfortable and since your challenge is to win the prize and this helps you to do it, then it is a good investment. Even if you don't win, it was a very interesting video to watch and I would of thought a very good informative video for those that are considering this for their own vessel. The only piece of advice that seemed to be of sense to me was the battery or the case for a second one. My tuppenceworth on the matter would be to first check the battery usage against charging input and the consequent results would tell you what you need or not need do as the case may be. Good luck with the competition!!

The old version was a trim tab - much like elevators on an aeroplane tail. They can be dipped down to lower the use or up to lift the nose. But they are either fixed in the best compromise angle or are moved by hydraulics but even they don't react almost instantly.

  • @rolandtb3

Could cut the conduit into 2 pieces. Next time record the boat's stability performance from a standstill to accelerating hard to flat out. Both on flat seas and choppy conditions.
Normally drivers adjust the trim and engine angle to get on plane quickly, reduce chime walk, get the bow down as the boat accelerates. Same for wave bounce or jumping.

    • @Bierrr

You mean on the transom? In theory should that not be the strongest part of a boat?

    • @chox2001
      @chox2001 Рік тому +3

@@Bierrr the whole boat will have extra forces on it .
The water will naturally move the boat left right down on the nose down on the stern.
This device controls the movement so it’s fighting the water forces.
It could cause an old boat to twist of flex in a way it’s not designed to.
These stresses on an old boat constantly can lead to problems especially with a powerful engine.

I have Zipwakes for 7 years now on my Raider 18 Cuddy (Honda BF150). They are fantastic. it changes to a completely other boat.
The way they balance the boat on a high speed turn is awesome.
I have the Key sense connected so the Zipwakes start automaticly when i start the engine.
I have them connected to a Raymarine AR200 GPS via NMEA2000 so they have instant GPS fix when we start the engine to move to other fishing spot.

OMG ,you sir sounds like a bitter old man, that never got out of the middleages, and have no clue whatsoever how modern thing work, by all means they have two batterys on board, and the engine does have a 40 amp alternator, so power is no problem, and modern marine electronics has a wery low current draw. All this tecnology you are refering to consist of a combi plotter/fishfinder ,a vhf radio and the new zipwake trim tabs, so the boats you has been around your whole life must be on a museum . Stop be so damn envy and jugdemental, watch the series and remember they dont owe you anything, they share theyr experienses freely , and if you dont like it,dont watch it. I like it ,and i watch it. Hope you have a better day tomorrow sir.

Didn't think you Limeys had it in you, not an engineer, physics brainiac, math genius, but don't think this is any way beneficial, all this is going to do is slow your boat down, use more gas, it's like putting out drag shutes to slow you down, better off w/regular trim tabs, if they can modify this system to work w/regular style trim tabs would be better idea ? instead of coming straight down like brakes, these might be o.k. when anchored to stop swaying, but running ? would like comeback !
