Do you play aggressively or prefer to play defensively? Please share your aggressive tips for new and returning players, I will probably stick to playing like a turtle as I find that more fun! 😎

I'm glad to hear it my friend! The game is still good fun and there is multiplayer against real people, particularly using the Steam version. Have fun!

Good tips. Started playing long ago super defensively but once you dip your toes into the water of aggressive build orders, then you can't stop but trying different offensive nations and how to best create a strategy to take down the opponent real quick

Thank you! I can relate to that, a very defensive player myself, but I do enjoy watching other players play aggressively, it shows how versatile the game is!

I’m an old RON player from the days of the original game. The first build order you did is what we call an Ancient rush. The second build order you did is called a Classical rush, but you’re missing some parts of it. Usually you will want to get your patriot unit out to act as a general for your Classical rush. Since the Classical rush is delayed, you’ll also want to bring some cavalry along to deal with archers. Archers aren’t hard to get with that delay and it only takes a few to kill those heavy infantry. Lastly, you want to try to age up to Medieval (usually using Sci 2 and Mil 2) as soon as you have already taken the opponent’s capitol. If you time it correctly, you will capture the opponent’s capitol while it is still a small city. Aging up to Medieval age will upgrade your newly captured capitol to a large city with half the HP. Then you upgrade your units to Medieval age and watch your opponent struggle to recapture it.

@grippercrapper Amazing! In constructing this video I was surfing old forums from when the game was originally released (I do wonder what all those players are up to these days!) and it was such a nostalgia trip. I wasn't ever great at the game when it released, I just played with a school friend for fun, but learning how in depth the strategies are all these years later is a great experience....thank you for adding to that!

@@twiglets2 - The real irony is that somehow you guys playing RON today inherited the nomad game that we used to play as a way to spice the game up.

In your second example vs Mongols did you actually assimilate their capital? It looks like they recaptured it. In which case how did you win? Or am I missing something? Thanks.
BTW Rise of Patience does indeed have some excellent advice on early game builds and Classical Age rushes. Whether or not I can click as fast as he does and punch the right Hotkeys in time is another question.

I believe that city changed hands a few times but I'm sure I recaptured it in the end to get the win on that occasion. A fun game!
Absolutely Rise of Patience is a great channel, regular live streams with highly skilled players, I do struggle to keep up though as its so fast.
