Getting to visit Taipei with my grandmother was an opportunity I will never forget or take for granted. My great grandparents fled China in 1949 and my grandmother was born and raised in Taipei where my great grandfather operated a photo processing shop. She would eat fantuan and soy milk from street carts on the way to the international school with her brothers and says she still remembers the places where they would frequent as a family. Being here was just so special and I can't wait to return.

Several years ago I did a 6-week Summer School at National Chengchi University in Taipei (close to the zoo). Maybe something like that could be interesting for you? It gives you the opportunity to explore more of the city/country (the classes were only a few hours per day, I believe from 12 to 3pm, so there was plenty of time for activities), while working on your language skills. I also remember it being pretty affordable. Let me know if you would like more information!
