Loved this song when Renaissance did it and Judith with the help of an absolutely marvelous production team take it to a whole new level....simply astounding!
The “The Northern Lights” was a really great recording released back in 1978 by a group called Renaissance. Very difficult to top you would think but, as ever, The Seekers manage to do just that. Those three lads that make up the group are fabulous musicians but, like everybody else, I have run out of superlatives to describe the voice of Judith Durham.
I really like this song.... very well done..... it reminds me of something John Denver would have written... both Judith and John are my favorites ... too bad they never got to sing together..... and this would have been a great song for them..... it is so much his style....
Both my favorites as well! I’ve always thought that they should have done at least one duet, either this song or another. He has some great material that I can just see her accompanying him on. It doesn’t appear that they ever collaborated, although I’m pretty positive that they were acquainted.
A Jamieson Smile: "Northern Lights" is visually a "Light Show" of the heavens. It's a "Chorus of heavenly harmonics" with Judith adding her Signature to the "Melodic line & its contour". None better! With loving eyes & heart, Jamieson (Peter) Note: It's evident, as part of a "rock spiritual", it would be a powerful & sincere addition to the "Focus of the Theme"...(young love matured).
The richness of voice is gorgeous. For a 'lighter' interpretation, try the cover by The Blackheart Orchestra, posted 10th Feb 2019. Chrissy Mostyn's voice is a sweet contrast.
I had never known that Judith Durham covered Annie Haslam (Renaissance)! What a pleasant surprise! With due respect to Stephanie Adlington and Candice Knight, this is probably the only instance of a well known, great female singer covering Annie's songs (unless Mary Fahl has performed any Renaissance material and she is not well known anyway). A beautiful performance that yet serves to highlight what an unique singer Annie is! It was after listening to this version that I realised what subtle shades of emotion Annie had infused into a seemingly simple pop track. JD just sounds a bit stiff in comparison. But still did good justice to the song and standalone it sounds great.
Judith Durham certainly does a good job here on the vocals. The backing sound is not as intricate nor as atmospheric as the original song performed by Renaissance.
They should use this as the theme music for the new Shetland series next year, what could be more appopriate, mind you,Douglas Henshall might have trouble getting it off hismind.
Nice but Original the best with Annie and always will be (Posters stuck to the wall when a lad along with Farrah and Suzi!!), Love Judith for Georgie Girl, I'll never find another you
love the carnival is over but this not a patch on Annie Haslams original vocals maybe people are getting carried away because it happens to be Judith Durham singing
R I P Judith Durham.
She did a great job , a job well done with this song.
Let's get a million views for this special lady

Judith Durham sempre será uma grande intérprete, onde estiver!!!
Why this song hasn't been flooded on Australian radio stations I'll never know! It's mind blowing!
Judith always had and still has a beautiful voice

Judith Durham......the original little engine that could, and did.
Simply brilliant 😊
I cried as soon as she sang the first note. I can't believe how beautiful her voice is...
It's so lovely to hear Judith Durahm's beautiful voice again. I loved you when I was a kid, and I don't love you any less now, Judith! 🇬🇧

That vibrato, present and correct!
A solid 9/10
Rennaisance gets a 12/10 from me though
Judith at her best
I have to say it again. Amazing!

Why do people continue to measure one singer against another? I just don't understand it. It makes no sense.
Me neither. A very pleasant surprise...

This perhaps should have been used for Shetland
I think it should have been used for Shetland series, I am sure D Henshall would have fallen in love with it.

Cover of the original done by 'Renaissance'. Not bad but not in the same league as the original.
no far better

Judith, Annie Haslam and Karen Carpenter are the best female singers in the world. ♥♥♥
No way. Doesn't come close to the original. Judy had a great voice though.@@dronedays450
