👉 The song Durdaraz/ Quarrels by the Kazakh poet-improviser and composer Eshniyazsal Meidimululy (1834-1902) He was one of the most prominent representatives of Kui* in the country.
Dimash first performed the song 'Durdaraz' at the solo concert 'Arnau' in Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan in 2019. 'Durdaraz' is a famous song from the golden pool of 19th-century Kazakh folk songs.
This folk song has a very lyrical text, but Dimash sings it in his native language very powerfully, almost in a fighting manner. In addition, synchronous somersaults in a confined space and elements of the kata (martial art) integrated into the dance.
* Kui are musical compositions for mainly string instruments (Dombra, Kobyz). Kazakh nomads expressed all of their daily life, surroundings, events and feelings through kuis. The music is usually accompanied by stories and legends told by the kuishi (kui performer).
