My observation as a civilian looking outside at LE in here in America, they have to be kind yet tough, highly intelligent, responsive. Compassionate, disciplined, understanding, patient, thoughtful and selfless. All the while dealing with stupid stuff and worse stupid people who are not patient, selfless, thoughtful, highly intelligent or compassionate. Sounds like a job that's kind of hard to do perfectly.
