    Just built mine tonight on the dining room table. My eight year old has the Aero Scout.
    We are both logging hrs on the simulator and hope to fly Sunday when the winds settle down.

    Just to let you know when you installed your landing gear you used the incorrect plastic retainers. The correct ones are a funny looking block that has different angles cut into them they are marked left and right. Keep the plastic hardware with the rounded cutouts you used because those are for installing the floats. And then you installed the vortex generators backwards on the wing. the smaller part of the V is supposed to face the front of the plane.
    And I made the exact same mistakes when I assembled mine.

      DO NOT try to learn to fly RC until you get great planes simulator and practice many hours before trying to fly your new plane!
      You will almost certainly crash and destroy your new plane and be discouraged and disgusted with the hobby and give up on what could have been a very fun and rewarding hobby!

    Almost everyone tries to use the metal clips to install the landing gear, the metal clips are used for the floats and there are two grey plastic retainers that fit exactly to hold the main gear. Welcome to the club, I spent a long time with the gear until I realized I was using the wrong retainers.

    I have seen two stall spin crashes and after doing some investigations noted in both cases the vortex generators were installed backwards (according to some other pilots.) Looking at the instruction manual I can see why some would be very confused as to which way they should face. I am not sure this was the cause of the two crashes I witnessed but in both cases they stalled and crashed in almost the same way. The pilots took off fine, made a right turn, went down wind and started to turn again and down they went. Both were traveling slow, but they didn't appear to be going too slow. In both cases the crashes were sudden and nasty.

    • @jack-of-all4535
      @jack-of-all4535  3 роки тому +1

      The BNF version comes with a Spektrum receiver, so unless you want to swap that out, you will need a Spektrum transmitter (DX6/8/etc. or NX6/8/etc.), or one of the multi-protocol receivers (such as the RadioMaster TX-16S or the Jumper T18). If you are new to RC airplanes, you can consider the RTF version (as Stella suggests below), which comes with a basic DXS Spektrum transmitter, flight battery and charger (the BNF does not include these items). I do not believe the DXS has enough channels for you to add flaps later, but that may not be a consideration at present, and the RTF package price is good.

    Were you able to make sense of the trim adjustments? They make no sense sense to me. I think they either left some steps out, or have them out of order. I've never done this before, but I assume the goal is to have the control surfaces centered when the trims are centered? They seem to give instructions for adjusting trim while in flight, and then somehow transferring this to manual adjustments.

    • @jack-of-all4535
      @jack-of-all4535  2 роки тому +1

      Sorry about the late response. I generally do manual adjustments to get the control surfaces as close as possible, then fine tune using the trim switches on the radio while in the air.

    • @bruce1106
      @bruce1106 2 роки тому +1

      @@jack-of-all4535 No worries at all, thanks for your reply. Yeah, I think that what the instructions really mean to say is that after trimming in flight, and landing, mark where the control surfaces are. Then, center the trims, and mechanically adjust to put the control surfaces back where they line up with the marks. Now electrical neutral and flight neutral should be the same. We'll see 😁

    • @jack-of-all4535
      @jack-of-all4535  Рік тому

      The Spektrum DXe / DXs (not sure which one yours came with but probably the DXs) can be bound to other planes with Spektrum receivers, but can only be bound to one plane at a time, whereas more expensive Spektrum transmitters (DX6, DX8, NX8, etc.) have internal memory and you can bind multiple planes and then select which one you are flying that day. So with the included transmitter you would need to do the bind process each time you switched to a different plane or back-and-forth between two or more planes.

      Not sure I understand the question. I do not believe you can connect the included transmitter (probably the Spektrum DXs?) to a PC to run a simulator like RealFlight. I use my DX6 connected to my PC through a wireless adapter / dongle that I had to purchase separately. I am uncertain about the newer NX(6, 8, etc.) transmitters, I am sure you can connect to a PC but not sure if the dongle is required since they have WiFi, but it likely is required. Not only are the directions wrong with regard to those screws, they are also wrong on the installation of the GPS. The cub manual says there is a “pocket” with a “lid” and there is not. There is a place you can sit the GPS module on top of the receiver, but nothing to secure it in place, so I guess you have to tape it. In order to find the GPS plug in the receiver you have to wrench the receiver out of the plane cause its mounted with double sided tape, not velcro or a strap. Forget trying to reach technical support. They claim on the website to have a phone support but... no number to call anywhere. If you try to chat, you’ll never get through, but you will get told to try again later after waiting for 15 minutes. If you want to email support you cannot because they don’t have an email address. They do have a form but it is limited in characters to very few so there is not enough space to explain what your problem is. There is no manual either at Horizon or Spektrum for either the GPS module or the receiver. I did buy this model, GPS and a transmitter but I’ll never buy from them again. With ZERO customer support, incorrect manuals and no online support, no UA-cam videos this company has no respect for customers. Just the worst post sale support and documentation I’ve every experienced. It’s truly a fraud to accept people’s money and then provide inaccurate documentation, no documentation and no access to support.

      I am sorry you are having difficulty with your Carbon Cub S2. I agree about the receiver being installed with double-sided tape, they could definitely offer a better solution. I did not purchase the GPS, so I do not have experience installing it to assist you. I agree that Horizon's chat has not seemed to work lately; it used to work and the representative's were very helpful. I also do not know why it is (at least nearly) impossible to find a support phone number on their website. That said, near the end of the manual (I just pulled up the version from their website, top of page 35) you can find the email address (productsupport@horizonhobby.com) and phone number (877-504-0233; you can probably also use 800-338-4639). If you call, use the menu prompts for support from a RC plane specialist. You used to have to wait on hold for over an hour to speak with someone, but they recently implemented a call back service, so if prompted, I recommend selecting that option, you will be called back without losing your place in line. Although it is a process, Horizon's support specialists have always been very helpful. I just used that call back option a few days ago: I needed a rather obscure battery adapter and called to make sure I could order one that would work with my charger and the batteries - the fellow I talked with was great! In fact, when I commented that the adapter (about $9) would not qualify for free shipping (I am a member of their rewards program) and that it would take 7-10 days to arrive, he helped me find the exact product on Amazon (it was a couple dollars more on Amazon, but as a Prime member it was shipped free in two days). Most companies would not have taken that extra step. Please give that a shot, once you get someone on the phone I think you will be pleased with how helpful they are. Reply again and let me know how it goes. Thanks!

      @@jack-of-all4535 Thank you for the very helpful directions and advice on using Horizon Hobby support. I did eventually figure out how to install and use the GPS, then removed it after hearing horror stories of the GPS flying the plan through trees while “returning it to you safely”. For some fields it is probably a nice safety net, bu not for mine...

      @@bendrixbailey1430 Between the GPS and the wrong setup in the templet supplied in the NX6 radio I crashed two of these. When the error in their templet was discovered by support and corrected the plane flew well. I threw the GPS away. My only complaint was when I asked if they were going to make it right since it was their radio that caused the crashes they ghosted me. The support person has totally ignored my emails. There was no name calling or finger pointing. They just won't stand behind their products in this case.

    Might as well leave the wheel fairing off as they ALWAYS break on landings. Maybe not the first time but they will break and you cannot buy replacements without buying all the wheels etc. Not good.

      You are right, they break easily. Flying without them.

    Always take your pants off before flying. In anything but a perfect landing, they’re gonna hit the ground anyway!

    Wrong bracket for your wheels.
    Those brackets are for the rear stabilizer attacked to the floats.
    The front brackets are beveled and flat.

      You are correct; the one in the thumbnail is not the right one for the landing gear. The one I install in the actual video is the proper bracket. Thanks for the comment!

      @Tom Giorgini Thank you so much. Zooming in on the manual I downloaded, I still felt I was using the correct brackets, but the others do fit properly as you and others have stated. I at least have some experience, but I do believe that Hobbyzone should do a better job of marking parts for beginners. Thanks again!

    Wow that wing looks a pain in the ass to remove

      It kind of is; I had to remove it to bind it to my receiver - the binder extension cable they sent with it did not work! Fortunately, it will fit in my CR-V with the wings attached.

    Always knew these "assembles in under 30 minutes" comments are pure BS. You are 5 minutes in and you already had it unboxed ahead of time. You haven't assembled anything yet in 5 minutes.
    Best to set aside a few hours......which is good. You don't want to slap something together and break it or not have it correct. It also takes time to check over your work, check the balance, control surfaces etc...etc...

      Thanks for the comment! I intended this assembly video for people who were new to the hobby and wanted to explain some concepts as I went. This one (as I find most do) had a few "gotchas", lol. Someone with a good bit of experience could assemble this plane in under 30 minutes, but I agree with you - take your time, check your work, make sure everything is correct so you can have a good experience and a great maiden flight.
