Hey, I saw the comment and intended to reply, then clicked on your channel and watched "Learning to draw is frustrating" video. :) Back to reply. You have the understanding of what it takes to learn a new skill and that's important. Zoey's progress is great, but keep in mind that it's all individual to how fast each of us is going to progress. I've seen people who pick it up in a mater of days and on the other side some who needed much longer to be comfortable on skates. Meaning go at your own pace but have some consistency in how often you practice and know your limits. Especially at the beginning, use protection as even scrapes from asphalt can put you off skates for a while not to mention sprains and that's one of the reasons why people give up before even starting. Your body will also take a while to get in shape and learn to use the new muscles. Focus on going forward/turning/stopping first as going backwards for a beginner can be sketchy and very dangerous. Once you learn the basics put down some mileage under those wheels, that's how you get confidence and feel the pleasure of skating. Once you get good enough and it becomes muscle memory it's a pure feeling of joy to be on wheels. Check "Slomo rollerblader" on new new your times channel for inspiration. :) Go out, have fun and practice, practice, practice. :p

I’m so glad u made this video! I was so discouraged I bought roller skates after not skating for many years to get out and get some exercise. I have gained weight and didn’t feel comfortable I was afraid to fall so I tried them once and haven’t put them back on yet. I’m Going to try again!
Little advice to all newbies (I am also a newbie, but I ride a longboard) - get full safety gear from Day 0 ! I say it out of experience. Hurting a knee is bearable, but hurting a wrist could be more serious. I tried a little downhill and fell on my right wrist - wasn't able to cut even tomatoes for nearly 2 weeks - hurts that much. Then got wrist guards, saved my wrist the second fall. No joke.

Two thoughts. This is coming from an inline speed skater who also happens to love skating in general including jamming on some quad skates. 1: The hoola hoop probably helps with good dynamic balanced and core activation. Btw mind blowing hoola hooping lol. 2: This is amazing progress for one week. Transitions looked really good for one week and on asphalt. It would be waaay better on some nice wood floors. If you haven't already some cross over practice would be really prudent and you definitely have more than the requisite skills to do it well. And then just work on more squatty power in addition to straight legged artistic moves and you are there.
Just watching this and I’m 2 days in. You are phenomenal! Love those transitions. Looks so smooth...the hoop adds in some amazing flair! I can only imagine what you’re like now!
I love skating especially in this pandemic time i learned to skate in this pandemic time and i already created a mini dance hihi, skating makes me happy :]
I clicked on your video because I saw you shoot the duck in the thumbnail and that's a trick I've never gotten, haha, then I saw it was a new-to-skating video; it's always inspiring to see someone's progress, so thanks for sharing! I noticed something a little off though--I believe on occasion you're sometimes wearing your knee pads upside down, friend (right knee 2:19 is upside down, left knee pad is correct; that happened on days 4 and 5, too). On knee pads, the curve should usually sit on your kneecap with the slightly longer end that's flat reaching toward your shin. Good on you for wearing protective gear! Any time you practice anything other than flat rolling, I definitely recommend wearing at least a helmet and kneepads like you are, but I always wear elbow pads and wrist guards, too, myself. Better safe than sorry! (I'm new to park skating, but am an experience street and roller derby athletic skater.)
Looks great Zoe you progressed really well! Really good vid too! I have been wanting to get into roller skating for some time and hopefully this weekend I'll be hitting the rink 😁

Amazing! You got the hang of it so quickly. Can't wait for my skates to arrive (:
Wow! One week and you are doing amazing!!
Just watching this and I’m 2 days in. You are phenomenal! Love those transitions. Looks so smooth...the hoop adds in some amazing flair! I can only imagine what you’re like now!
You are a natural, Zoe! ❤️
Thank you 💛💕💕
I love skating especially in this pandemic time i learned to skate in this pandemic time and i already created a mini dance hihi, skating makes me happy :]
Besides skating, I really liked your style of clothing. This is very inspiring

I loved watching this. I haven't been skating in a long time. But I still have my skates with the professional indoor wheels. I want my own space to play.
