      From what I hear, the Da Vinci Jr is cheap, but unreliable and inconsistent. I would personally go for the Printrbot Play. The one that Nintendrew owns I hear is 100% worth the money, as it is $200-250 cheaper than both I mentioned before.

    Extra stuff: the pi he is talking about is a 3 model b. his PC is a windows one. You have to get a flash drive too. To put the roms on, you need to type //retropie in the address bar, then copy and paste the N64 roms.

      That emulator also works fine on that system, tried it with pac-man. But unfortunately n64 does notz seem to run for a lot of games. mario might have been a lucky hit. But a lot of games are unplayable.
      But for atari: go ahaead download all the roms and start playing! In a quite literal sense, they are tiny.
      I only bought a 128GB(~40€) micro SD card for PS1 roms.

    • @Nintendrew
      @Nintendrew  7 років тому +2

      You may be surprised - I'm not sure, but maybe RetroPie has been working on optimization? The only game I found unplayable was Conker. Mario, Zelda, Star Fox, and numerous others tested worked near flawlessly. Might want to fiddle with the emulator configs as well. :) Cheers

    Could you, in theory, make a Raspberry Pi capable of running multiple console's games? Say if I wanted to make one for NES, SNES, and N64 all in one?
    Also, would it work with an Xbox One controller plugged in instead of buying a retro reproduction?

    • @Nintendrew

    Hey, I'm currently working on this project thanks to inspiration of you. But, I'm a little confused on how using custom images for boot screens and such works. Can I just put it in there with no trouble at all? do I have to rename it something else? Or, do I have to do something cryptic like change the file format so it's readable. Also is the N64 image in the main menu there by default or do I have to add that in myself too?

    This is a cool video and project, but it's a little disingenuous. I've spent a lot of time tweaking my raspberry Pi 3's and only about 15-20% of the n64 library runs, even with overclocking and trying different emulators. Now, you could just play the handful of N64 games that work, and still play SNES, NES, Sega systems, and Playstation, etc and be very happy. But, he says at 00:34 "this thing can play almost every game in the n64 library." This is wrong and misleading. I would hate for someone to get into 3d printing, make something like this and then realize only a few n64 games actually work.
    Also, he says "it was only $35." Everyone says that. Forgets to include price of SD card ($12) power supply ($7) and controllers ($10-$50)
    The only singleboard computer that can emulate N64 well is Odroid Xu4, and it costs twice as much as the pi. Just clarifying some of the details on this for anyone who wants to make one of these.

    Yo great video here, only 6 years late to the party lol. I have some questions though - where do you put the roms that you want to include? And what is the power source that you need to plug it into? And most importantly, how well do these games actually run? Do the more advanced games like Conker and Donkey Kong 64 work too?

  • @wrathovgod5099
    @wrathovgod5099 2 роки тому +1

    if Nintendo does eventually release an N64 classic, it probably wouldn't have more than 13 games... if you could choose those 13 games, which ones would you choose?

  • @massacre11
    @massacre11 7 років тому +1

    So I read in one of the comments on this video that this isn't smooth enough for playing smash64. What would you recommend for a computer's minimally required specs that are good enough to play smash smoothly? I really want to build one of these, you did a good job.

  • @uno_SSBM
    @uno_SSBM 6 років тому +1

    But the raspberry pi 3 is unable to play most rom hacks and some games (unless u over clock). So in the beginning when u said it could run that, other than very minor hacks, that is inaccurate.

    That's pretty cool. I wish that the Nintendo Classic and SNES Classic had more games. This kind of fulfills this niche a bit better, since you can play any game, and probably at any resolution, depending on how the OS/emulator works. However, software emulators for games aren't always... good. Particularly for the N64. The rarer games tend not to get optimized for/bug checked.

    What's a shame is that the 2 Goemon Mystical Ninja games that came to the United States on the N64 are not coming to the N64 Mini.

    Oh well, I don't know why but first thing that's booted is emulation station and then I'm just in some RetroPie configurations and don''t know what to do
    EDIT: Had to do sth stuff with the USB drive. However, games run horribly >_<
    EDIT: Oh, it was due to the power supply. Now it works! ^-^

    Hello Nintendrew, I am Luckin a beginner youtuber I am a fan of yours and I like Nintendo's consoles, for example: Nintendo 64 and Wii. I saw your video: N64 Mini, please send me a link to the N64 Mini Protective Cases because I do not have a 3D printer. Please, can you send me that link with the protective cases? Thanks.

    Hey so I'm new to this whole raspberry thing, so 2 questions1) I see on amazon a whole host of different models. Yours is a 3 B that you link to, is a 3 B+ better and would it still work for this?2) Your video you said you load the roms on a micro sd and just have to load the retropi software to the raspberry mother board. Does this mean that one raspberry pi could be used for multiple system emulations (ie an NES, SNES, N64) just by changing which rom you load?

    PLEASE!! WHERE IS A SAFE PLACE TO GET ROMS!!! All I see are crappy games on emuparadise, no sm64, or ocarina of time!!!

  • @Sauspreme

    Nah getting retropie to work on a raspberry pi is incredibly difficult. At least for me it was. I attempted many times and could get it set up except to the point where trying to play any roms. It just wouldn't show up, not even sure if there were emulators installed. And after the 3rd attempt following a different persons instruction guide, I figured I'd just give up.
    Now it's just a credit card sized computer I keep in a shoebox, and just play my emulators on PC.

    A couple questions:
    I have the raspberry pi and I installed raspian (the normal os) and I don't want to buy another microsd card. Is there a way to install and emulator on raspian? I use the pi for other things
    Win32 disk imager says that writing a image file to a physical object could corrupt the object. How do you install it?

    I found playing N64 games on the RPi3 was a bad experience. They often ran like garbage, even when overclocked. Did you also experience this?

  • @MysteryCarlos
    @MysteryCarlos 7 років тому

    What if they will do the same formula like what they will do with the SNES classic. If they are going to release Star Fox 2 then on the N64 could be released an almost completed game that they've never released as well. Like Earthbound 64

    My Raspberri Pi 3 is unable to run N64 for some reason. Everything else up to PS1 runs fine but when I try any N64 game it just crashes. Unfortunate but still a great emulator.

    Thinking of doing this. I have a few questions
    1) I had to extract the pi software with 7zip. Was I supposed to?
    2) what size sd card do I need?
    3) How do I install rom hacks onto it?

    You are missing a keypoint on here, N64 games run really poorly on the Raspberry pi 3, so anyone trying to get into this project dont get your hopes up some games like OoT and Mario 64 run okay while others (most) like Conkers suffer from terrible lag and issues

    With the sad announcement from Nintendo that there will never be a N64 Classic, and that they only love money, hate fun, and find our tears delicious, this video suddenly became a whole lot more interesting. I WILL add the N64 Classic to my mini console collection! If Nintendo doesn't want my money, then someone else will.

    I already have an N64 mini. Except that it doesn't support HDMI or any of that fancy stuff. But it can take original controllers and cartridges and it's also the same size as the original!

  • @TheN64man

    Just put the Raspberry Pi in a little cardboard box with USB slots and whatever cut into it and label it Mini64. No spaces though because with a lot of emulation related things people don't do that.
