I love how all of these artists were going "gold" and in all actuality they were more than likely going platinum but the labels were lying to the artists.
Masta Ace killt Crooklyn Dodgers, he’s a beast on a collabo joint and solo joints. Letter To the Better. Saturday Night, Beautiful.. Brooklyn Story. Salute
First comment of the day. Masta Ace has always been one of my favorite rappers in the early 1990's. Born to Roll was one of the songs that I liked that he produced.
"Take a Look around" was actually one of my first hip hop albums i had ever owned and played on repeat. Masta Ace is probably one of the most underrated MCs in the game and was the cause of me realizing that a positive/conscious message in music was essential, for me anyways. Got a chance to see him perform in Chicago at this venue called "The Shrine" many years later. Was the highlight of that summer.
I would have loved to have heard "Me and the Biz" with Biz Markie actually doing his part, and as Ace says, it probably would have been a bigger hit, but I suspect while it may have been a bigger hit, it probably won't have been a better song. And I still test my sound system with "Boomin' System".
Eminem even named his record label after Aces second album. What I respect about em is he gives props to where he got his flow ...Master Ace was part of that.
I know I’m late but Ace is one of the most slept on emcees ever!!! His album “ Long Hot Summer” is one of my top ten hip hop albums of all Time- right behind Tribes Low End Theory and Pete Rock and CL’s “ Return of the Mecca”💯💯💯💯👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿
Rip Biz Markie. I rap. Masta Ace Biz Markie and Kane to me were those dudes they certainly molded my flow in my early years. Liking that type of music pushed me in the direction of other artists that would also help mold me and were also inspired by these dudes. I’m just learning Ace rapped both parts on Me and the Biz and it almost makes me wanna shed a tear. I hear a lot of biggies flow on Biz verse. “They know it’s me, cuz I’m the B.I.Z” 🔥 👑
These interviews are priceless. Thank you for doing this. I graduated high school in 89, which IMO was the golden age of rap. I came home from school and turned on Yo! and everything was good.

Great interview, and props to Masta Ace for doing his thing. I started listening to Hip Hop around 91 when Metal started turning into Grunge.
