Une musique superbe pour un film superbe. John Wayne a bien assuré et a produit un chef d'oeuvre. Des acteurs formidables, tragique, patriotisme, courage sont retrouvés à travers cettz magnifique musique. Bravo M. Tiomkin !!

I saw this movie in 1960 in France when a young boy, history, actors and music have never left my soul since.
In 1981 I went to San Antonio just to see the very place.
God bless the texan and mexican heroes of 1824 and also all the actors of this so touching movie.

It's amazing how a movie can take us to a place. I've been to the Amamo several times. I took my grandsons there to tell them the story. They too were moved. Way to go John Wayne.

Oh! This is a beautiful arrangement of a very favorite soundtrack of mine that I've loved since 1961 when I saw the movie with my parents when I was 10 years old.
The Prague Philharmonic really knows how to do soundtracks to movies in style!

Tom Foster you are right, the music is excellent, I have a double CD of the Prague Philharmonic orchestra playing the late John Barry's music, which included the soundtrack of Dances with wolves.

Tom, where did you see it? I was 13 when it came out and watched it at one of Hollywood's big screen theatres. I can't remember if it was the pantageous. It was amazaing.

Superbly rendered by the magnificent City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra. This is but a small suite of the epic score now available in a three CD set with a great booklet. I cannot recommend that set enough. Remember The Alamo!

John Wayne always wanted to make this movie. To show American Spirit which it did. Bravery was displayed by both sides on March 6th 1836.

This music compliments the film and adds to the depth and context. The playing of the Degullea by the Mexican brass at the massing of the hours Mexican army even after all these years still sends shivers down my spine as it signify the intention of Santa Ana to slaughter all the Alamo defenders. Another indication is the raising of the black flag. I first saw this film when it was released in the early 1960a.

"Bowie, Crockett, Travis and Dickinson, and the others who died in the Alamo held off an army for 13 days, and it's hard to believe that they ever existed. They'd become legends before the smoke over the battle had blown away. What kind of men were they? Well, we know that they died, and that they were heroes, but nobody wants to die, and nobody just decided to be a hero, (it) has to be forced on you: that's what happened to them. It was forced on them, because they were stuck with ideas like freedom, and the rights of the individual, and hatred of dictators....Living free meant a lot more to them than cowering in security." -John Wayne

    • @dauntless0711

Nick Favillo pretty sure that would be the Louisiana Purchase. In any event, the Mexicans were the ones that unwittingly invited American settlers in, so it was more their fault than an American conspiracy to steal Texas.

It was the biggest land grab in the country by a president Jackson couldn't take the land itself so he made it look like Mexico started it. Without that land mexico had the country wouldn't be complete. The people at the Alamo were told to destroy it and leave to give Sam Huston time to build the army .there's a book by a guy named fine he tells the hole story this happened in 1836 not 46. My typo

I agree with you. At 70 yrs old, I have read many books on many wars . Santa Anna was the only officer to give time for the women & children to leave. So, in my head he was an officer & a gentleman. ÀND he won the battle. I am American. But the death toll of all wars ...women & children are never counted,. Just the slaughter of very young men. Santa Ana was kind. A true gentleman.
