- Okay, Stacy Lattisaw fans! Hope you enjoy this. Please rate! When I heard that Stacy would soon be a subject of 'Unsung,' I was inspired to dig this up! Stacy visited Video Soul in 1989 to promote her 'What You Need' album. She chats with Donnie about her career, involvement, family, and other interests. Enjoy!
Even her speaking voice is exquisite and could melt kryptonite!
I miss Video Soul days!!!
The best days hands down!!!!!
She’s so adorable and her talent is sensational!
Reminds me of marsha ambrosius
@Herald Orome early 2000 neo soul type singer
@Herald Orome Grow up child why would you find it offensive if I think she looks like her.?
She does look like her
*OMG She do look like Marsha.*
I AGREE!
Always was and still am a Stacy Lattisaw fan
Man love Stacy!! Always wished that Stacy did a duet with Teena Marie!! My two favorite ladies of the 80’s!!’
WOW JUST SEEMS LIKE YESTERDAY I WAS A CHILD WATCHIN VIDEO SOUL FEELS GOOD TO WATCH THIS
From the look on her face you can tell that he’s making her very nervous!
Always loved STACY LATTISAW!!!!!!!!!!
I love how her speaking voice is so dainty and light, and yet when she sings on her later albums it is deeply soulful and piercing.
But dang it, I wanted to see the vid for Every Drop of Your Love since it it ever so slightly different from the album version....lol
Thanks for posting the interview!!
Thanks for sharing! It is interesting and bittersweet to hear her discuss all her future plans, only to walk away from the industry completely. She comes across as a very sweet and genuine young lady here who does not have a lot of nonsense in her life. I do hope she decides to release more music in the future as her voice is indeed pure and beautiful!
Nothing bittersweet when she walked away. Stacy knew of all the evils in the industry and didn't want to sell her soul. She knows her rewards are in the afterlife.
LOL!!!!! I use to live for video soul, especially the top twenty countdown. I still got some old video tapes.
Aww. She's so sweet.
She reminds me of one of my old friends.
Donny's hightop is EPIC LOL!!! And Stacy looks so cute =) Good interview! thanks for posting!!
i miss video souls watchin videos for 2 hrs
Brought back memories when I watched Video Soul back then. I missed that show :(
Thanx for posting this interview!! Love me some Stacy Lattisaw : D
thanks for posting ,I love Stacy
I loved that Stacey would be the subject of "Unsung", and appreciate the added insight this video gives us, thank you so much...
She was too perfect and innocent for the times. An American icon
Big fan of hers... really appreciate this posting... THANKS A LOT!!!!
WOW I remember this, thanks for posting.
What a Great Christmas gift. Thank You So Much..
Retrorhythms...I'm Working on something special as a fan of Stacy Lattisaw. I should have it ready for mid January. I will give you a heads up when I am done. ...Thanks Again ! Stevin
Stacey was the 2nd best female vocalist ever (behind only Anita Baker)
Ha!!! Go stand in the corner.
Lkjdfldskj Lkjkljkklj you are new generation you had no right to comment
@JayCold REALLY?! Whitney Houston? Chaka Khan? Angela Winbush? Mariah Carey? Lalah Hathaway against Stacey "I wish Johnny was on my album now" Lattisaw?!! GO...STAND...IN...THE CORNER!!!!!
Naw she's just shy , she said so herself .
She is painfully underrated as a songstress. Her vocal quality was so pure yet powerful and chameleon-like. It is futile to imagine what else she could have done had she not walked away from it all.
thanks for the post
she's a beautiful girl and a voice of an angel, but DAMN !!! somebody needs to find her a GOOD hair stylist and FAST!!!!! and this is from a big, big fan.
You are right. I forgot all about that from the booklet! Thanks for clearing that up. It will be interesting to see if she says anything about that in the upcoming "Unsung" episode!
I loved video soul. I remember it being only 2 hours.
I remember all the time I would watch video soul.love the feeling i get when it comes on and remember mad max that white robotic dude that stutters when he talks.
@retrorhythms
Thank you for speaking out against the unkind remark made against my hometown boy Donnie Simpson! He loves Stacy and was just tactfully doing his job. Stacy was just a private young lady. Love her!! Thanks for uploading this interview!
So talented! Love her!
It was great to see this again. Thanks for posting. Maybe we can see some Soul Train or Apollo Clips next? :)
Thanks for your friendship stacy
I'm glad it made your night!:-)
Good voice
Stacy has a beautiful voice and soul............
OMG!! Mrs. Lattisaw has a VOICE of "Miracles" rolled up in one Women.. I don't know what that is.. But I know I hear it from this Beautiful Gifted Luv.. Brightest Blessings~
YO!!! I miss Video Soul so damn much!! I really miss talking to my girl on the old school landline phones, watching Midnight Love. What I don't miss is gettin embarrassed by my momma picking up the phone and tellin me to tell my lil friend good night. LOL
I love Stacey!
Yeah, the following year she was interviewed briefly on another special, and she mentioned that she was recording another album which would be out in June of that year. Obviously, that never surfaced!
Yes, it was the best. Hey, that's cool you have High Inergy's '81 LP cover as your logo! I have all of their albums in my collection!
Stacey..thanks for your freindship
Aww, I am sure she appreciates the love regardless!
please post more of Stacy if you have them ..I just love her
I just got finsh watching her on unsung!
I like stacy lattisaw she was a beautiful voice and a wonderful personality
@retrorhythms watched it last night! so this was it for stacy, LAST VIDEO 'what you need' and last single 'where do we go from here' (my favorite). well at least she didn't SELL HER SOUL. i applaud her for that she seemed so nice and down to earth on the special. that was funny when her mom and sister was getting kicked out the club and she was on stage singing! lol
She WAS with Johnny. They dated twice and went to the same school (prior to her being tutored). They were even engaged at one point. It is in the booklet of her "The Very Best of Stacy Lattisaw".
I love her hair!
Donnie simpson's eyes though
@Codycole80 Yeah, I can see your point about the home question. I think that, especially since Stacy is also from the DC area and Donnie had interviewed her before, he was looking at the interview more as a conversation -- and probably lost sight of some of the boundaries.
She is such a sweetie
I finally got my hands on the video, so I'm good. :-)
Years 1987 - 1989 are the years I started paying attention to music and videos (I was maybe 10 or 11), so I really enjoy renewing interest in the music of the past since I've grown and come to appreciate it more.
I'm glad she decided to serve The Lord instead of stay in this business where she appeared to be unhappy. Today she is very happy and serving God. She has helped me in my journey to serve the Lord.
Why is it an either/or? Plenty of people have done both, not compromised their ethnics, etc. she has shared she didn’t really enjoy her career as child star, even had to be pushed when Michael Jackson asked her to tour with Jacksons.
Back in day I thought Donnie Simpson was so fine. Miss quiet storm better than today's mess nothing about love if you can make something rhyme you got a record deal so sad SMH!!!!!!!! Most of today's music will never be classics.
23 years oLd here . . .ChiLd of God !
Yes, bittersweet is a good word for it. I shared the interview with her on FB; not sure how she felt about it!
somebody plz upload the 'what you need' video on youtube! puffy teaching stacy that dance move is hilarious. lol i always loved that song and video
Oh man. I remember being a little girl; my cousin and I would feather our hair ( the best that we could) and a lil make up all just to perform her songs. Let Me Be Your Angel, Jump To The Beat, Dynamite......
If you type up StacyLattisaw, you'll get her channel and can send her a message. She wrote me back on two different occasions...sayin' thanks for the love...stuff like that!
she's so chill...and fine
@n0gar Video Soul was a great show. BET had MTV beat when it came to interviewing the guests. I miss that format. Donnie Simpson was a great host and the brother had style and poise and new something about each performer which made his show really great.
You're welcome! I agree. "Jump to the Beat" was pretty big there, huh? Even Dannii Minogue did a cover version!!
I usually love Donnie and his interviews, but on this one, he acts like a jerk. He's asking her uncomfortable questions that have nothing to do with the music. It's like he's making her nervous. "You still live at home?" SMH.
A lot of people want to know if celebrities still stay at home even though they can afford to move out.
Stacy at her best on BET's Video Soul.
@mrsdiva69 ,
the show aired last night April 12th but they will air it all week. It is so worth watching I learn alot about her and it was a good ending. Something you don't always see in this business.
LOVE HER!!!!! I'm glad she is happy doing the Lord's work, but I miss her singing R&B!
Never understood why people think can’t do both...
@@mic1240 I agree. I saw several interviews with her and she seemed completed disappointed in the secular music business. I guess only she knows what happened. I wish she'd just record SOMETHING!!!!
@@mic1240 you can't do both. If you want mainstream success, that means selling your soul. Many people in show businesses, politics and corporations at the upper levels engage in ungodly activities. Stacy did the right thing
@@jaybee4307 Many successful artists have sang across multiple genres, including Gospel and R&B. Aretha Franklin likely most successful, other artists like Anita Baker won Grammy in Gospel music, while being primarily R&B artist (who never used her body or dressed inappropriately, compromised herself/music to do so).
@@mic1240 I have watched several interviews with Stacy. She didn't get specific, but she did say she intentionally stepped away from the industry because she was focused on her rewards after this life. The industry is demonic (even mainstream gospel singers). She also didn't want her daughter caught up in it.
i love dynamite and all her other hits
Romantically linked ? with Johnny Gill? I wouldnt think so ..but seriously how hard would it be to get another video soul type shows on tv again. I would love to see one again and Donnie could be the host. Detroit still LOves You Donnie!
she looks better today
@DA90027 Yes. You can hear a recent (last month) interview I did with her here on my channel, as well. She has an autobiography coming out at the end of this month! Wonderful lady.
@TheMidcoast1 you're so welcome :)
i love the way he raise his right eyebrow 0:40
Dang Donnie is gAwgeous! Rico Swauvé
I know! I thought the same thing! It's been around quite awhile, actually...maybe she meant newly popular?
Very sweet girl.
@IceManLikeGervin Best comment ever!
wow 11 albums?? wow i must have missed 9 of them
@mack1820 Actually, she had one more single after 'Where Do We Go from Here' -- "I Don't Have the Heart." You can watch her performance of it here on my channel!
@n0gar They did rerun select episodes a few times over the years. But I don't think it'd be possible for them to do it from start to finish...because I know of artists who wanted to get copies of their interviews, and they had been lost or accidentally erased!
I don't think that channel is actually hers. It's very vague and doesn't have much info. I've been in contact with Stacy through another site, and she doesn't really make any mention of her past career. She seems very much dedicated to her faith and being a mom. But TV One will be airing an 'Unsung' episode dedicated to her this year, so we will finally get to HEAR her thoughts on her career back then!
can you please post more of Stacy
@n0gar That "someone somewhere" would probably be me. I think I have the most of them posted on here from what I can see. Still have more, but it takes time!
I am not the only fan of mrs.Lattisaw's that had either read or heard about her unfourtunate attack by such a thouthless person. I must have 15-18 years old when I remember that cowardly act,was that person ever sentenced to any jail or prison time? thanks to all you 40 something's out there who know/knew about this attack on a fine sister. Clarence Cheatom,Portland,Oregon
She said that was a rumor and that it never happened.
I won't even act like I knew that lol. I just so happened to be reading the booklet at work. I wasnt even born when she came out, and I got her CD this past Christmas cause my mom knows I've always loved oldies. Can't stand today's music. I'm 25 but am an old soul lol.
Also the question about Johnny Gill ..... She blushed just like any young girl would about being asked that question. She didn't frown nor did she seem upset... she blushed and laughed and said why do yall keep asking me that.... It was actually innocent and cute. Why was he a jerk for asking what fans wanted to know? LORD!!! the negativity of you tube!!!
This Is Tha Real BET!!!
@songbird249 Haha! People here don't know what that is! That was a great fad! I had a pleather jacket that I was proud of.
Donny and that haircut!!!!, lol!!!
How old is she now, early 40's?
@DkPcBgOtTaLuvEm I really think he was just trying to figure out what the fabric was!
@MegaDede43 you're a big fan and you really think this is something recent???
@discoAL what do you look like?
Her daughter looks exactly like her.
@DA90027 She will be 45 on 25 November 2011.
I remember Bill Cosby had something to do with her career early on. They didn't mention that on Unsung. What happened.
I JuSTt LoVEe MEe SOmEe "STaCYy".
damn, danny brown has it right. stacy was fiiiine.
@Westlake72 Perhaps he was a bit too pushy about the topic of JG, but overall, Donnie was a great host who really had fun with and brought out the best in the artists who visited! I hardly think "arsehole" is a fitting term!
@DA90027 44, as of November 25.
I remember listening to all Stacy's songs I am wondering wae she stabbed by an assailant or was that another female R&B artist? Clarence Cheatom
