Recording: Sunday the 26th of August 2018, in TivoliVredenburg Utrecht.
The 'Missa L’homme armé super voces musicales' is the first of two settings of the ordinary of the mass by Josquin Desprez, using the famous 'L’homme armé' tune as their cantus firmus source material. The earliest source containing the mass is the Vatican manuscript CS 197 (ca. 1492-1495) and our work is based on that score. In Rome inside the Papal circle instruments were almost forbidden. However, the earliest print of masses, in Petrucci’s Misse Josquin of 1502, points to a wider dissemination. The mass was probably performed not only in Rome, but also in quite different places and at different times, and was also adapted for instruments.

Die beste Kombination der milden Töne aller historischen Instrumente und der durchsichtigen Stimmen des ganzen Chors. Die lateinische Aussprache ist auch präzis. Echt authentisch!
Die lateinische Ausprache ist NICHT praezis ! Es ist Kirchenlatein mit italienischen Ausprache.Man weis seit vielen Jahren, dass die lateinische "C" sich wie ein " K" aussprach. Nicht wie eine TCH !. sonst ist es aber gut.

The musical performance of your vocals and playing old type instruments is splendid. This performance expresses the relationship between religion and music in ancient times in Europe. The shout of the souls existing in the bottom of their hearts brings us into Heaven. Unfortunately it is difficult for our oriental races to feel their sympathy. However this performance should be taken over to next generation. Keep on playing!!
What a magnificent mix of works from the Renaissance period. Including Josquin’s masterpieces. The set of voices is amazing and the direction is superb. Bravo for the present recording and for the pleasure it gives us to listen to it, since one rarely finds a composition of works by musicians as extraordinary of this period as these.

wow 2 ensemble che amo che eseguono insieme un pezzo di Giosquino. Perché queste cose non si fanno a Bologna? :( Le uniche cose di un certo livello rimaste sono la Cappella di San petronio 3 volte l'anno se va bene ed eventualmente l'Odhecaton quando è ospite del museo. Per il resto solo eventi "piccoli". Tanti saluti ad Alberto Allegrezza che seguo sempre dall'ombra sia dal vivo che in discografia. Daje che vogliamo il bis del Banchieri eseguito a Villa Mazzacorati qualche anno fa! :)

Let's be authentic and only have male instrumentalists as is proper to the period. Females can sing if it's a popular song sung by all in the period. The Gregorian chant is still sung to this day in the traditional liturgy.

Volgens Maarten Luther was Josquin Desprez de 'meester van de noten' en niet de 'knecht' . Zo te horen had hij gelijk! Naast het mooi musiceren ook heel mooi ruimtelijk opgenomen.
