The second hit probably destroyed his lungs and/or throat, he would of only had seconds to live, practically disabled but with probably some minor function in the brain. The last slash just cuts his head off and makes his life expectancy null.
Gladiator's execution I think is supposed to mimic a fish on shore. Hence why he is flapping his feet in a fish like way. Summary: "Head Bonk" Larry thinks he's a fish and is delt in a way.
