- In this video we put our red Dexter Bull in with the cows for breeding season! Mr. President is a ADCA registered Red Dexter Bull. He is a2/a2 and Homozygous polled. We have chosen to breed for a2/a2 and polled genetics in our Dexter herd.
About Sweet Briar Farm
We are a small farm located in Central/Northern Michigan. We farm every inch of our 6 acres. We breed Registered Dairy Goats, Dexter Cattle, and Heritage Hogs. Clean healthy food is important to us and we like to produce the majority of our food on the farm and we grow and raise enough to sell to local customers. Producing our own food also means we forage for wild edibles such as mushrooms and tap our maple trees in the spring to make maple syrup. In 2019 we added honeybees to the farm and have had as many as 30 active hives producing honey for us.
Our goats include Nubian goats, Mini Nubians, Fainting Goats, and Nigerian Dwarf goats.
Our Heritage Hogs include: registered Berkshires, Tamworth, Kune Kune, and Hereford.

Cattle are so funny to watch when they are in heat. The dancing they do sometimes seems risky but the bull gets the job done. Congratulations on future calves.
Greta has to assert her dominance 😂

Thank you for sharing 🐂.
Our pleasure!
This was the cutest thing I’ve ever watched
Round and round they go lol
Nice cows 🐄 👍 I like that bull he is a pretty color
He sure is!
Great video.
Thank you
He he he 😂
The bull looks like a Dachshund with those short legs, lol!
They are cute little cows
Teddy is a beautiful animal
He sure is!
@01:59 Wait...don't they have that ordeal a little backwards??? Hahaha!!!
😂😁😃🤣🤓
It’s normal everyone gets worked up when someone is in heat. Pigs and goats do it too 😄
In the UK rams service the ewes or female sheep. The local term is 'tupping'. The farmers know when the ram has bred which ewe because there will be a colour mark on her rear.
We know when his job is done when he loses interest. Usually only needs one shot once they are in heat.
He's smart and doesn't waste his energy!
Tell me please. Do you sheep farming in the USA?
@@henryfitch8710 we briefly had some Shetland sheep. But the market for them by us wasn’t worth keeping them in our farm. There are lots of farmers that do raise sheep. Very popular for showing at fairs and in the right market very popular for meat.
The problem in the UK for sheep is the shearing. The fleeces are worth very little compared to llama. I love English lamb though traditionally most is imported from New Zealand!!
Wait.... the females are jumping on top of the male???? Huh???
They do that to establish a pecking order. Dominance.
Or if they are in heat
Not a bad life being a breeding bull as long as you can perform. Do non performers go to the knackers?
He is a proven bull. We have a jersey heifer that might be headed to the cooler.
Midh malor bio
The bill just getting the pleaser
Question: How many couplings does it take to actually successfully breed? And how do you know if the female is actually pregnant?
Should take just one time usually. Joleen went back into heat after this so we mistimed putting him in with her but that’s ok. You can tell they are pregnant when the bull looses interest and there is no mounting by the bull or the females.
Our jersey Greta we are going to have preg checked. She has something weird going on she produces milk and has never calved.
Or you can do physical hand testing. Inserting a gloved lubricated hand to arms length.
They seem to be confused
Normal behavior when cows go in heat.
You should put your cows a winner on
I think some of your cows are on the fence if they female or male 😂😂😂😂None binary right 😂😂😂😂😂
😂 it’s just normal behavior when the cows go in heat everyone is mounting each other. Never a dull moment
I would put that bull on the grill not good for any thing else
Ok…
I agree. I have been around herds of Jerseys and polled Herefords and, without fail, when a cow rides a bull, she will immediately get a good, hard service!
@@maturefella so I guess him getting my cows pregnant is worthless? You watch 10 minutes and make the conclusion.
@@SweetBriarFarmMichigan That's about the size of it!
@@maturefella not sure what you mean. But if you don’t like it watch something else.
