don't lie, "my name is harry baker, harry baker is my name, if your name was harry baker then our names would be the same." stuck more with u throughout the times more than the actually poetry
It makes me so happy to see number+word people. I was always of the latter company, but one of my friends was a math major who writes poetry and reads more books than anyone I know, and it's so nice to see people with passion and talent in both of these areas that society (or maybe science, I don't know) tends to keep separate. I hope that made sense :) This is brilliant.
The line between math in literature that was created by society is being blurred. When you break literature down like everything else it becomes numbers and the realization that writers are mathematicians and mathematicians are writers. It is all the same and the only difference is perception. Just look at natural language processing it's all about quantifying the qualitative.
Sebastian You're right, and as a writer/designer, I find blurring of disciples interesting in general, for instance art in cinema, storytelling through design forms, etc. the options are limitless, and it makes absolute sense to me, because these lines that draw divides between various areas are arbitrary and were constructed to help us differentiate and categorize the world. It reminds me of what you learn in drawing, or even postmodernist poetry. Rather than rely on the way language conditions the mind to separate visuals (an eye as a unit, for example, or an apple on a table, etc) you instead observe in colors, tones, shapes, and lines. Lessening bias in that way allows you to perceive moments when the white of an apple blurs into the glare on the table on which it is placed, etc.
exactly, I am a Computer scientists and the more i work the more i realize that everything is connected. For example i give you Pi within pi is every possible number and sequence that has ever been, is and will be. within one number (pi) you have every color, name, dna strand, element and much more. It all is connected and it amazes me that these divides still exists today and are even taught in schools.
EAPP11_REV2016 This material has 3 poems. The first one is the Lonely Prime Numbers, the second is called the Paper-people and the Sunshine Kid. Harry Baker as said in the video is the grand slam poetry champion. It is really called poetry slam but this guy says his view why he called this slam poetry. So poetry slam/slam poetry is the competitive art of performance poetry. It puts a dual emphasis on writing and performance, encouraging poets to focus on what they’re saying and how they’re saying it. There is another kind of expressing poetry if you may ask called open mike readings. Its is different from potery slam. Slam is engineered for the audience, whereas a number of open mike readings are engineered as a support network for poets. Slam is designed for the audience to react vocally and openly to all aspects of the show, including the poet’s performance, the judges’ scores, and the host’s banter. Harry baker is a great poet I must say. At the very beginning, the way he introduced himself is not what you would expect, It's just not ordinary. Well I am not new to this poetry slam. We have that in the Philippines and we call it "Spoken Words". Harry baker is the counterpart of Juan Miguel Severo here in the Philippines. The difference is that , Harry Baker's poems gives you hope. It talks about how can people be great in their own little way.Juan Miguel Severo shows all the hatred and pain of the world. But as you can see Harry Baker i different,He loves people. He managed to show it. All of his three poems, the sunshine kid, the lonely prime numbers and even the paper people, they rise and give hope at the end. Some parts are bit funny but you can still feel the essence and the connection of that funny line to the entire poem. The way he put emphasis, there are fast spoken lines and there slow spoken. That's his emphasis. If you are into the poem you will notice your breathing go with how he spoke or brought the lines. When he is on the fast line I called, you probably hold your breath but then when he goes to the normal and slow spoken line you will release it and you yourself can feel the relief. He has this good connection in audience. He transfers the idea of his poem well and you can really feel it. After watching the three poems , you will realize how greaat people can be ad that there is the right time for everything. His poems always cheers me up. Listening to him makes me happy. His poems shows no boundaries. I like people too.
What a joy to watch a creative genius passionately perform their work, in their unique way. I’ve watched this video a few times and it is so captivating and clever! X
Judging from the comments so far, Harry Baker has found a way to get past people's poetry detection shields. Before turning to Chaucer or Shakespeare, Billy Collins might be an accessible poet worth turning to next. Just a suggestion. He's given talks on TED. 59 and 61 are twin primes, because they're only 2 apart. But if they're twins, does that mean their love impetuous was also incestuous from the start? Ah so, it's hard to parse matters of the heart.
awesome poem Harry makes me to start using some of his poems as my status and some as my way of making people listening to what I want to take as an advise to them

You can find interesting facts and puzzles about Prime Numbers and Magic Squares, Smith Numbers, and Arithmetic and Palindromic Primes on Glenn Westmore's blog.
I believe that the speed with which he declaims is on purpose - to emphasize the sound of the phonemes. And even though Portuguese is my language, I understood it by slowing down the speed to 8.5.
I just found out that go means 5 and ku means 9 so i thought ..ok so goku means 59 and I looked it up and yep..goku has a jacket with 59 on it...he's got his hair on one side....kuririn 60? ...roshi 61?

Personally, I'm not a big fan of slow, flowery poetry (like Shakespeare) but slam poetry resonates in exactly the right way, so here I am
I memorized paper people and can say it faster than him. Lol but he performs it better than I ever could

You can find interesting facts and puzzles about Prime Numbers and Magic Squares, Smith Numbers, and Arithmetic and Palindromic Primes on Glenn Westmore's blog.
This was great but he does need to articulate and slow down so he speaks clearly
I believe that the speed with which he declaims is on purpose - to emphasize the sound of the phonemes. And even though Portuguese is my language, I understood it by slowing down the speed to 8.5.
Cute!
I just found out that go means 5 and ku means 9 so i thought ..ok so goku means 59 and I looked it up and yep..goku has a jacket with 59 on it...he's got his hair on one side....kuririn 60? ...roshi 61?
