Live-action would bring limitations to the show. The show being animated is the best way possible. They have full freedom.
It is the most watch netflix show in 58 countries,the highest rated tv show(top 5) according to imdb.
I dont think it would have made this much success if this was a live action.
Live action could never be so beautiful like arcane.

I think animation has always handled strong female characters better than live action mediums.
So true. Do not touch video games or anime with live action. They wouldn't find someone that will do justice to this characters in both personality and looks.

I completely disagree grace. I think the 3 episodes at a time was a GREAT idea! Splitting it up into ACTS, full, complete story arcs, you know, like Acts of a story.
I think the idea was great but the execution not so quite, the first 3 worked because it was a self contain story of some sorts, then the 2nd act I'm still not sure of what the main idea was. Anyway, the show was amazing and I can't wait to see more.
I agree that it was good from a viewer perspective, but she’s thinking about it from a business perspective- what’s the strategy that gets the most eyeballs on the show. I’m surprised how few people are watching this groundbreaking animation.

Can we take a moment to realized that her full name is "Sky Young", i mean ... that was quite a name, especially that would have been given by her parents who live in a harsh & terrible place like Zaun. Sky parents surely wanted a brighter future to there daughter.
Here is the thing.... a live action just wouldn't be as rich and as immersive as the animated version because the style of the characters and environments just mesh so well. You can have different genres in live action, but you are pretty limited on styles.... Plus with animated shows, they are getting the exact look they want for the characters. Do I think this could have been successful as live action? yep! But I am loving what they have done as is, and I just think its visually more interesting overall.
The fight choreography would also be simply impossible to accomplish in a way that animation allows. All of the big exaggerated movements and impacts just wouldn’t work as well.

as an anime fan you just have to come to the realization that nothing animated can be done well in live action.
People keep trying and it fails every time. We have all said "well maybe this could work" or "If you get the right directior and do this part this way... blah blah blah". Just doesn't work.

@@RobTheDoodler I would like to add that the animation in this series is probably the best animation I have seen even not counting the fantastic fight scenes. They have moments where they don't over-sell the animation... where its very subtle, quiet or natural. Something you don't see too often in western animation.
Just a phenomenal show in every aspect.
That green screen ‘look’ will always slightly break me outta the moment too, no matter how well it’s done. 100% Animation FTW.
I think I prefer Arcane as animated. This first season was incredible! Really hoping for a 2nd season 🙏

To me the reason the female characters are so good is because, they are written as characters, witb their gender NOT being their main traits. The writing concentrates on their personalities, their motives, what tick them. With Arcane,i felt like i always understood where characters were coming from and what pushed them to do this or that. Excellent storytelling.
I don't think the release schedule was an issue at all, i don't really understand the criticism there
The release schedule was perfect as-is; three at a time let's us get invested in the mini-arcs, while still giving the show enough time to breathe and for buzz to build for the finale.

I totally agree, I do prefer a release all at once more often. I personally hate 1 episode a week that is so corporate TV. I think this mini arc 3 episodes at a time over 3 weeks was a great idea. it kept me wanting more but i was invested in each arc like you said.
Yeah I hate waiting for 1 a week. When they release like that I usually just wait till they are all out. 3 a week was pretty nice.
We also have to remember it’s released as an event within the riot ecosystem of games and league of legends it’s self. There’s no way riot is going to have a 9 month event waiting for the 9th episode to release.They made it a one month event through the entire scope of games they have and supplemental lore and sides quests and stories on their games and websites.
i feel like the reason for spliting it into three was valid enough for it to work well if the next season has a more connected arc I would go with the all at once or one a week approach though definently leaning towards all at once.
"We'll show them. We'll show them all!" That's one Jinx's lines from the game. The way they tied back all the way to Silco is awesome.

Ekko is the coolest character in the show. That fight with Jinx is one of the coolest things I have ever seen animated.

I hate League... i LOVED this show
I haven’t played the game myself but my best friend has been playing longer then I’ve known him lol and I’ve always been interested in the lore, I’ve watched all the cinematics they’ve made in the past. The visual story telling of this world is so cool to me, and then we finally got Arcane and I’m just obsessed with all of Runeterra now lol I don’t know if I’ll ever play the game (I’m a console baby and even trying to use a computer to play games I feel like an infant trying to use the keyboard 😂)
No! Absolutely not! A great part of the charm of Arcane comes from its animation style. There's no way they could match it in live action on a Netflix budget. Even Disney would be hard pressed to achieve it, even in animation form, if "What If" is any inducation.
Plz stop calling it Netflix 😭😭😭 it's riots budget and riots work.. they just released it on their platform

It's time they get their recognition. Once Netflix enters the production, it's over. People will only call it a Netflix show sadly which they already are😪
“There's no way they could match it in live action” period. It doesn't matter how much budget they have.
As great as season 1 is, I'm quite confident season 2 would easily surpass it if they decide to fully commit to Piltover & Zaun which is unlikely. We are yet to see Clan Ferros, Warwick, Twitch, Orianna and Urgot (most likely the new villain in the underground), but if the series tilts towards Medarda's war and she's Singed's connection to Noxus, we might get to see Riven, Master Yi and more.
One thing's certain, they have enough for a lifetime of shows.
Characters aside, I believe (hope) that seeing how well received Arcane is they're going to make season 2 have more episodes. My only complaint for the show is that parts of it felt rushed, especially towards the end. Definitely would love to see season 2 have 12 episodes or hour long episodes.

Given the amount of crows showing up in this show I think Swain might already be a player in the story.

This show was a masterpiece. Story, script, music, animation, all perfection. Bravo.
Its very close but some things were a bit rushed and some decisions made no sense. However i never felt so nitpicky while saying this. Its a great show. Top 2 for me with Invincible.
So if you liked Arcane, here are some games you can try instead of League of Legends:
- The Ruined King (developed by the creators of Darksiders Genesis and Battle Chasers)
- Legends of Runeterra (card game with a chill community and lots of fun)
- Hextech Mayeh (Geometry Dash but with Ziggs as the main character)
- Or wait until the release of Proyect L developed by the Cannon Brothers (co-creators of Rollback Netcode and some of the founders of EVO Championship series).

I'm a total simp for Jinx but Silco might have just been the best character in season 1.

Totally agree Cait was a little overshadowed by her relationship, but she has a lot of things going. Competent detective (ep5) and Peacemaker (ep7). Her ingame skill is named Piltover Peacemaker !!! She has the makings for the perfect Sheriff
spoiler but in her lore she is the sheriff of Pilgover and Vi is her undersheriff so arcane is the story of how they got there
Jayce is criminally underrated. He is not my favourite, but he might be objectively the most complex character in the entire story. The amount of impossible choices he has to make, the struggle between his ideals and the harsh reality of the world, the constant pressure from everyone around him to make important decisions, that go against his beliefs. His character is trully fascinating, and it's really sad, that people don't see it.

I see it! He was actually my favorite character. Really liked his development. Let's not forget he was about to end his own life and to see the development he received after the time skip was fascinanting!

Three at a time was great. It was essentially three arcs within the season arc.
I thought it worked really well.
Also I am not sure it would be as good if not was live action. It worked because it was live action sensibilities within animation.
I liked getting multiple shows at once. my issue with it was it didn't seem like the sets of episodes were connected. it felt like each episode was made to be released by itself, but they just chose to release 3 at a time arbitrarily. I think if they keep this release style they should find a way to connect each of the three episodes
Three a week was perfect! Grace is off her rocker to even suggest doing a full dump of the series. Somethings work as binge watching others things do not.

"Would it be better if it was live action ?" I'm tired of hearing this. Live action base on games , comic and anime are high probability of not delivering high marks. Animation has more freedom , more beauty and more flair. It will always works when it comes to animation.

But Act 2 to Act 3? Made no sense, literally it was just continued immediately.....
Episode 9 with Jinx becoming "powered by Shimmer" felt like its own Act in itself, where stuff really starts hurtling forwards

Grace saying Vander didnt cast much of a shadow and seeing the thing hanging over Singed on his final screen frame made me chuckle for those that know.
Casted an audible shadow in the Season 2 announcement video.
The reason they went 3 a week is to have a month long special event in all of their games.

Animated works so much better for this type of show, theres so much style that wouldn’t translate well to live action, like the ekko vs jinx fight for example
I agree with all of you. It's better as is! Live action would ruin it. And I'm just fine with 3 episodes a week is fine. It works for me. Yes, I could probably binge it. But, this feels like a compromise. So I'm fine with it. What a fantastic show. I hope they can keep the seasons coming.
Arcane is what we called "Perfection"
I was not bored for a single minute in all 9 episodes. Arcane is now my favorite show of all time.

Mel was my favourite character throughout, everyone thought she was the bad guy but i thought that would be much too obvious so I'm so so so so happy with the S1 finale.
I feel silly for not giving her a chance. I should have waited till we go to know her more. I didn't have enough information. You have to admit though, she did manipulate and seem shady af.

Really fun that the show's quality is so high that non league players are as enthused by it as I am.
The main game is just an arena brawler. It doesn't have any lore in it. But the studio always had some lore enthusiast that kept writing these lore blogs on their website about all the champions (which I presumed no one read). Eventually they all stacked up to a cohesive whole, but still when they announced the tv show I assumed the worst. But what I got was one of the best animated shows I've ever seen. I hope it has a long life.
Mel's family is, what I can tell, from Noxus. Which is a militaristic, survival of the fittest, type empire. Think the Fire Nation from Avatar meets the Roman Empire, and they don't care about anything other than your ability to contribute to the empire's cause. Race, creed, sexuality, none of it matters as long as you're able to do something worthwhile. They're pragmatic to the extreme and one of their leaders uses ravens to spy on people. There's a lot of shots of random ravens in this show...
Hoping for a great season 2!
The lore has been a huge part of league of legends since its inception, it was reckoned back in 2012 or so. Although the lore is not part of the gameplay 100% the times, there ate events seasonal events there are always tied to the lore. Every character has a back story when is released and often pushes the lore forward, there has have been a lot of lore exploration in other mediums to like comic books, made by Marvel. Which are Canon but tell stories tied to other regions of Runeterra.
@@dzibanart8521 The start of season 2 will be when the Jinx R created event trigger to get everyone transported to isekai and ended up in the Summoner Valley.
Joke aside, yup Riot had made it big about the lore behind each characters over the course of production. They have been constantly freshing out the characters. With the success of Arcane and how it progressed, I would really love to see how they fresh out Diana and Leona relationship.

The game has a lore that has been updated/retconned from time to time to be cohesive.......... those weren't just some bloggers.. they were writers that Riot employed and sometimes they commission. Riot Games Inc. hires writers , musicians, sound directors, designers, and other kind of artists. They weren't just a company of developers.
So if you liked Arcane, here are some games you can try instead of League of Legends:

League of legends is so rich in terms of lore, we can have a whole cinematic universe full of interesting characters and stories.
Also, Cait's title in the game is The sheriff of Piltover.
I really liked 3 episodes a week. I hate binge culture. You are forced to binge a show as soon as possible or social media will spoil so much... But I also would really hate just one episode per week. And to your live action adaptation question. It wouldn't work as a live action show. Animation can help to create a a unique feeling to a show and exaggerate things like live action never could. The show would looks absolutely silly as a live action show. I need a second season... Like right now!
Watch the lol worlds opening ceremony, you may change your mind on that live action bit. I shared your opinion right until i watched that. Now believe Riot could actually pull it off.

I think its perfect in animation, live action would just limit the things they could do. Also, Riot games has been using and developing this art style with some of their previous game cinematics, they did an amazing job with the animation. Also the world of League of Legends is so vast there is so much lore, so many characters to explore, hopefully we see other regions of the world in the next season. I'm so glad you liked this! :)

Your take on Heim is spot on. Dude was there for 200+ years and didn't do much to help the Zaunites.
I feel like that's mostly becoz the guy basically is immortal, so the way he thinks is in terms of decades
Unlike other humans, he cant understand their desperation, towards the end I agreed with Jayce's decision as well
Eh... I think they kept referring back to him being so old that he witnessed "what the Arcane does" and so it's like, he's justifiably scared of using it now
He seemed like one of the MOST "overall good" characters, his flaw of stubbornness is there sure but it's relatively minor
I never seen a style of animation of this level of beauty ever before, each frame look like a masterpiece painting. As an artist myself I came close to almost tear up so many times because of the artwork alone. What an incredible masterpiece.
This very much. Every frame looks like concept art. Is concept art brought to life without concessions or simplifications to make it easier to animate. Is absolutely incredible.
In a story so driven by its characters, its very fitting that you review it like this. I like this style of review, hope to see this trend continue!
no live action for this. leave this masterpiece the way it is. I actually liked the 3 episodes at a time. In the last episode there's a hint that Vander is Warwick. I started the series with Vi being my favorite. Ended the series with loving Jinx, her character development was incredible. You could feel the fight she had with her demons.
A live action is welcome like if they can really pull it off or make it focus on other characters, but of course they should focus on the anime series first, and finish it first.
@@Snzn_7 the thing is, live action can never be as creatively free and complex as animation because you can literally do anything you can imagine with it and exactly ho you want it to be, no limitations except time and effort. That fight scene with Jinx and Ekko? That can only be done this good in animation. In animation you have full control over your artistic vision and no limitations of moviemaking are upon you. And if the animation of a show is this high quality, id take it over any live action prodcut any day honestly.
@@datzfatz2368 about the full control thing, not all animation have that. It depends on whose making and funding them in the first place.
Arcane is also a passion project for Riot Games and its animation studios. Most of the time animated series/movies can be already mediocre since its making when the production commitee decided to fund only the minimal animation for a show.
Live action can be creative too you know, like who inspired the cyberpunk look in the first place. Its Blade Runner. It inspired how the first cyberpunk world of anime would look.
Live action can be creative too, but again it depends on who is working with them.
@@Snzn_7 well yeah you seem to have misunderstood me. Obviously, all media projects fall victim to production problems and funding issues. But what i was saying is that if the conditions are perfect (and here they seem to have been pretty close to perfect) animation can create so much more ambitious and out there stuff due to it being much more easily controllable and manipulable, since you are not limited by things like camera movement, actor safety, literal physics and so on and so on. Modern CGI and editing closes this gap of course but if you are in animation already the suspension of disbelief is easier for the viewer.
And yeah i never claimed that the ideas and solutions behind live action arent exactly as creative and impressive, i just feel like Animation allows one to actualize such creative visions much easier, more precise and with more freedom since, again, you are only tied down by how much money and time you are being given and not stuff like real life physics, actors and camera, etc etc.
Jae Medarda is I believe Mel's brother that we learn was killed. I can't wait for season 2 to dive in to Noxus stuff

I totally agree I felt this time it wasn't forced that the women were main characters. It was refreshing and felt like progress
Even knowing beforehand how Jinx ends up I was still so hooked on her journey. They did an excellent job showing her transformation into Jinx and a small part of me was rooting for a happy ending with Vi but I knew it wasn't going to happen, at least not any time soon.

I'm tired of plots that always try to resolve tension and make everyone happy
Literally I only watched this because of hearing it's a sort of "Villain Origin" type story and that everyone was nuanced
And it delivered so good
I kept being like "ok I see where this is heading, it'll be some overdone formula" but it kept being better than I thought
Only exception to me in terms of complications is Ekko (too good, too little flaws) and Silco (made to seem too bad)
I'm loving the show as it is. Every 'shot' is a piece of art. Netflix 3 Eps. per week drops is somewhat innovating, giving me enough to 'binge' but saving some for later, it's so nice. Looking forward to up-coming seasons.
And each set serves as one of three acts in a bigger story somehow.
Ekko is my favorite (and not just because of that awesome fight scene) his personality is def the most likeable for me. Even after all the shit he went through he still seems the most "stable" of the characters and he fights to protect his people instead of entirely personal vendettas. I really wish they will do more for his character in the future seasons.

Heimerdinger was uninterested in politics that he made the council so they would decide political matters for him.
Easily one of the best animated shows of all-time and easily on the list of best first seasons of a show ever.
I started playing League of Legends in 2013, and it's incredible how far they've come along from the original game. To see these characters realized in a show like this feels so emotional to all the OG players out there! It's also refreshing to see a review from someone who is not as familiar with the material and seems to really appreciate it! As a sidenote, a lot of details from how their weapons look to fighting style and personality is straight from the game, so if the shark bazooka was anything but a shark bazooka, it would have been really disappointing. Another example is the top hat Caitlyn wears, she's the only one that wears that versus the helmet like the other enforcers, just part of her character design.

Another note I meant to add, Riot is the mothership company with League of Legends and Legends of Runeterra (digital card based game) being their top two IPs. Legends of Runeterra uses the lore and characters from LoL (League of Legends) but it has more flexible to shine light on the world's lore with the cards. You'll see a lot of side characters and elements pop-up in Runeterra. LoL can feature only so many "champions" that a player can play as they are called in LoL. Not a spoiler as they say it in Arcane, but Noxus where the Medardas are from, are like the Spartan-esque society in LoL. Noxians are known for their brutality and mentality to rule with force, power, and subjugation tactics.
I definitely think the 3 episode arcs were the right call. Let you binge and keep the weekly discussion, best of both worlds. And this show wouldn’t have worked in life action imo.

The region of Noxus is probably going to be introduced in the second season

Can't copyright claim characteristics. They are bound to mix. U can say similarities, calling them rip offs is harsh, coz jinx has here own charm n way, also looks different.
One thing I really liked was seeing how many character connections Singed has. A lot more then I thought. He basically helped create most of the characters we now know today.
She is not a rip off, she is inspired to the character. A lot of the characters from league of legends actually have reference to pop culture and especially dc. A lot of skins are dc based (singed has a bane skin - singed being the mad scientist and anothers like this)
As a longtime league player, I alway think she is a rip off, but this show make her alive.
I just gotta say it - I've been a fan of Runeterra lore, and a fan of Grace's work for years. To see these worlds collide and have Grace cover and be so hyped about League show - is such a crazy cross-over happening in my personal cosmos.

I think they showed that pretty clearly in the show, what Noxus and House Medarda are all about (Sparta-like fascist warlords)
I actually loved the release schedule! It was like watching a movie every Saturday night. I much prefer this as opposed to one episode a week
Silco was the surprise MVP of the series for me. You expect Vi and Jinx to be amazing but I wasn't expecting such a humanized villain. He really brought something unique to every scene he was in. That visit to the home of Marcus was so well done.
The true best character though is Chuck. He's doing great!
Okay, unpopular opinion: I really liked the three episode at a time drop. I liked binging three episodes, and then talking with people. I liked the “stories-within-stories” format that created!

I personally loved the 3 episodes at a time release! I had an arcane finale party with some friends where we made dinner and watched the 3 last episodes together and it was a blast
I don't think it's the last time we'll see Silco. Remember, Silco knew who to go to, to help Jinx live when she was about to die. That mad scientist helped jinx live and he also is still working on how to bring life back into that creature he created! I also find it interesting that they showed that mad scientist at the end of the last episode, sitting around scattered paper. If the mad scientist finds away to bring life back into that creature he created, he may also bring back Silco. In the beginning of the season, that mad scientist worked with Silco. If Silco returns, I guarantee you they would make him into an even more dope villain.

You know, you might have a point about Singed finding a way to bring creatures back to life (Wink Wink). But I really think Silco's story is done here.
£ arc with 3 episodes where perfect strategy: it's like watching a movie trilogy.
Imagine how limited they would be having to do a live action. Then remember Cowboy Bebop, Death Note, Avatar, Assassin's Creed, very likely Uncharted, etc. etc.

The Madarda family aren't the Royal family. Noxus is an empire, has lots of influential families including the Madarda. Probably the guy they crossed is another person from Zaun with much more influence.

Thank you so much. I felt she was a mix of The Joker and Harley Quinn. She also had some Batman mixed in if he lost his marbles. The way they were able to express emotions with this character. I'd watch a live action movie starring Jinx.
Id love to see a live action version but i don’t think anything can beat the way they blended 3d and 2d animation to create this masterpiece. Definitely the best show i’ve personally ever watched

The stupid audience has to understand that animation is as good as live Action or even better. I want more of this, because it is just breathtakingly beautiful. I think the first 3 episodes had to be in one stack, but after that they could have spread it out. But in the end I liked the current strategy.

To be frank, I completely in my heart believe that Sevika WILL be a champ... she has so much screen time, showed off abilities and is interesting and STRONG enough to fit in league. She went against Vi and almost basically won
This show was incredible I loved every minute of it, and every aspect. The art, animation and SOUND was incredible. (Sound was actually very important, from the awesome music to stuff like the pounding of feet as they leapt on buildings. It was amazing. Ofcourse there was also the easter egg of Jayces attacks from the game making it into the show in that fight toward the end.)

I absolutely love the ranking. I mean every character has a purpose regardless if they die or just have a short appearance. They make such a significant impact on the other characters around them, both emotionally and mentally😊one of the many things I love about the show

3 Episodes a week is great. The 3 ACT structure was beautiful, bite sized and awesome.
Grace, the mad scientist implied that he turned his daughter into that creature and thus created Simmer. When he was fixing Jinx he turned to Silco and said, "I had a daughter once". It's the creature that he harvested the simmer from. That made my skin jump, as this was a similar story revelation in another anime series that I can't remember the name of. Please tell me you noticed that, because where on earth did he get that creature from, if not from a human that he mutated (his daughter)? I really hope they reveal this in season 2 xx

The actor for Ekko said he did voices for this show 4 YEARS ago! It took a long time to release because they were busy looking for a home for the project.

I'm pretty sure I'd like this a whole lot less if it was live action, the animation here is beautiful, especially in the ekko vs Jinx fight.
I went into the series blind too, having not played the game.....and I watched it with my sister. And wow, I think watching it with a sibling makes it hit that much harder, the first time. I recommend to def watch it with a sibling. Makes you really appreciate them, if you have a good relationship with them. (Or be cathartic, if you don't??) Just food for thought. I would've loved the show, regardless. But I think binging it with my sis was an experience I won't be forgetting.

the jinx vs ekko showdown is one of the best things i've seen on the screen in my life. it worked on every single level

I haven’t played the games but I loved the show so much I looked into some of the lore to see what could be coming up. The best thing about this show is that this is just one city there’s so much more to explore in this world. There’s pirates, lovecraftian horrors, gods. I can’t freaking wait for s2
Jinx did it as a shark because thats her ultimate in the game. Her ultimate also does more damage the farther it travels which was shown by the rocket expanding and getting literally juiced up.

the animation was literally perfection
It would be incredibly successful if adapted into a live action format but it would also be incredibly expensive because although the plot is definitely a huge reason as to why the show is good-I would argue equally the animation and editing style also contributes to the quality and value of the show. I would hate for a studio to back this show only for it to be watered down aesthetically to fit budgetary and time constraints.
They're not a strong female character, they are strong character that happen to be female, great character, great story, and one hell of a fight scene
i am fully against any live action adaption, it would take away too much of the art and may even destroy the charme. people who don't watch it because it's animated, don't have enough understanding for a show such as this anyway, it's their loss. Also the 3 act idea was not Netflix but Riot. for season 2 i don't think Piltover/Zaun will be the place, they will choose a different area and another and connect them all up in a final season, how many in total depends on their plans and they have a plan be sure of that.
As a consumer of fighting games (competitively and on the content creation side) I wasn’t too excited about the Project L fighting game. However, through Arcane I have grown so attached to this series and the characters that I’m in on all fronts‼️‼️‼️
pls no live action. i know you ask for it almost every time you review a great animated show/ film. the animation is incredible, doing live action would make it just another one of those adaptations that seem to fail all the time. this is a show that originated from a video game. the genre doesnt need live action.
i understand she is focusing on the business end, but yeah a live action adaptation would just dilute it. this show doesnt need to make bilions of dollars, it just needs to do well enough to justify more seasons. the global attention its getting is more than enough, and the show is really reallllly good so word of mouth will keep spreading.
