I was able to work on the hoisting vessel the Ostrea myself, those elektric cables were a different size of cables than in the telephone exchanges I was used to, I still have nice photos from on top of one of the two hoisting towers, nice experience
@RIZFERD sorry, i did not get round to surveying the global population, but that felt like a fair first shot. I can change it to 99.99% if that makes you happier. De groeten uit Amsterdam
Extremely minor niggle is that the N.O. polder is the North-East polder (Noord-Oost polder (dubble o's are pronounced "Oh" for if you ever want to risk your vocal cords pronouncing Dutch)). Full points for explaining the difference between the North East-polder and the Flevopolder. Well done.
@@ON-YT Smart, we wouldn't want people without training, specialized equipment and medical personnel on standby try to pronounce Dutch, that could lead to catastrophic trauma to the poor victim's throat and vocal cords. 😜 Most of us accept direct translations in English, we often do that ourselves for fun. The more literal the translation the better, especially if it pushes the term slightly out of context.
Thank you for the informative video! It's great to see such a massive project explained in such a clear and easy to follow way. One thing I have to mention however is that with the current sea level rise of less than 10 mm per year (Per iccp projections, NOT measured) the Netherlands will be save for the coming 130 years due to the extreme overbuilding and "future proofing" the engineers did in the past. No one in the Netherlands is concerned about flooding, and they should know, right??
There are four e-s in "Wieringermeer", and it was the second polder of the project. The first was the "Proefpolder Andijk", which was literally called "Proefpolder" - 'trial polder' - because this was the trial of the system.
I'd argue that it is insane that we are still the only one doing it.. plenty of areas in the world that have the seasonal temporary living room beach front with floating furniture. Regardless, we are slightly insane 😂
I remember the opening in 1986. by Beatrix. And everything from the construction of the mega towers of 1800 + tones. Greetings from Bunschoten-Spakenburg, which is the northernmost point of the province of Utrecht. An old fishing village closed by the dike and Flevoland.
NO Polder, Noord Oost polder ( North - East ). The land not near water anymore dried out, giving problems. That's why the following polders had some water left between main land and polder.
We don't elevate the land. we pump the water out and the former seabed, becomes the land. I'm not sure how you missed that in the video, it was said, just not mentioned how I do it now.
✅. Wiringermeer = Wieringermeer 🇳🇱 Wieringermeer is a polder and former municipality in the Netherlands, in the province of North Holland. Since 2012 Wieringermeer has been a part of the new municipality of Hollands Kroon.
The Netherlands was lucky to have the income from coal mining in Limburg back in the 50's and 60's to fund Polderization and then the many Billions of guilders revenue from the Slochteren Gas Field to realize the Delta Project. One fact that few outside the Netherlands are aware of is that massive Pumps of the Zuider Zee type need to be kept running 24/24 to stop water seepage and eventual flooding.
It was invested to protect our country, and we will do it again and again, but we're not so lucky anymore, still managing pretty well. Per capita we perform way better than the bigger countries in the world, without Gas Fields and Coal mining. A Frenchman once said: "God created the world, the Dutch created The Netherlands".

Great info, trouble with Dutch pronunciation. But then 99% of the world could not pronounce Dutch correctly. 10/10 for the great vid.
99%? Not true.

You've obviously done a thorough research. Well done. BTW, the Marker polder plan never materialized due to envrinomental concerns.

I just abbreviated to N.O. Polder because I did not want to pronounce it wrong.

The Netherlands should acquire Belgium's mine waste mountains to build up land levels.
Yay, heavy metals!
@@robinpollard7629 Maybe there is Thorium in those mining tailings? We could separate that and run a Thorium reactor on that. ;-)

I did not miss it but suggested an alternative solution.
It is IJssel meer and NOT Ijsselmeer It is written with an ij a y with dots..., named after the river IJssel..
I play music while talking everywhere too. It's better.

We should teach the Russians to make land from the seas so they don't need to take land from neighboring countries anymore.
Teach this to the Israhelli squatters in Palestine.
